The entire metamorphosis after the molt looked like something straight out of an H.R. Giger sketchbook. Now I'm super convinced that he used Hercules Beetles as studies for a lot of his imagery. Nature is incredible.

Raising beetles... Based on this it feels like mad scientist work. Just imagine having that developing creature in a box in your room and walking up to it a few times a day to go "Ah, yes, the squirming monster fetus is growing its weapons on schedule, lovely."

I own small mealworm beetles, but I think these ones are freaky, maybe the giant grub worm is cool

You know, putting soft peaceful music in the background and you being careful with the guy really makes the bug look cute.

Im one of the lucky few people to know how/where to find these in nature, my dad showed me, we've dug into "nests"(for lack of a better word) and found dozens of them, one time we dug in and all the pupal cases had fully formed beetles in them, i have a picture of me with about 20 fresh beetles, and lots of good photos, i love the little hairs they have on the tops of their butts! We always put them back and cover them up with sticks and bark so they dont get dug up by racoons. I found a pupal case one time that was about ⅓ normal size, unfortunately the larva inside was dead, my guess was malnutrition

Not gonna lie I had no idea beetles started out as grubs.

I’ve player pikmin before knowing much about bugs and I think that’s why I’ve grown an appreciation for this, just reminds me of the canon beetle larva

The feeling when something starts playing with your arm and you realize you don't have any pets...

I inagine the beetle is trying to fight the human, and the human just grabs its horn moving it as it pleases, then the beetle has a horrifying realization of how strong said human really is

several beetles look like that as a grub, for example here in Austria Maybeetles are very common and have grubs that look exactly like this, they just don't grow as large.

Pro Tip: Avoid amputation by leaving large bugs alone.

I can just imagine this thing saying "Da Da" in the most horrific gargled mess of an audible output. Such a beautiful thing.

Oh my gods those are some ENORMOUS grubs. They don't grow up as beetles, they grow up as grubs. That is crazy to me.

hercules beetles are actually one of my favourite insects because unlike other bugs, they are big and easy to spot and generally are so cool looking. I always have a feeling of smaller bugs going into my nose, eyes, moth, ears, hair and clothes at times, but it's impossible for these, they also won't attack u for no reason and their design is so genuinely OP and high stats. I love the final beetle stage the most.

You’re a pretty brave guy for holding such a creatar! Right before their cocoon stage, their bodies are massive looking. Once they’re finally full grown as a beetle, their super tough exoskeleton, large loud wings, and massive horn are all very scary looking even though beetles aren’t necessarily dangerous to humans. They’re still very intimidating.
