    Hello Matt King! Thank you for your kind comments. I actually ended up buying two of these when I converted to a buffer which works well also. I like the variable speed aspect. I hope you have subscribed Thanks Joe.

    I bought one of these grinders last week at Harbor Freight on sale. I paid about the same price as you did. Your video is much appreciated. I watched your video before I put the grinder together. Both your video and comments were very helpful to me. I agree with you that the grinder is very well made with minimal vibration and noise. I have used it twice now and it has performed very well.

    Can I add a wire wheel or buffer wheel to this and does it come with a spacer if needed? Not sure if I miss this in the video. BTW, I was wondering how to use that Harbor Freight Grinding Wheel dresser. I didn't know how you were suppose to position the thing. Thanks for the demo!

    Thank you for your question. You can add a wire wheel or buffing wheel to your grinder but sometimes it’s a great idea to takeoff the shrouds. I have another video on turning your grinder into a buffer that you may wish to look at. Additional spacers do not come with this grinder and you may have to add some. Typically I add a 5/8 inch inside diameter washer on either side of the wire wheel so that the larger bushings will come into contact without holding the wheel securely. Take care Joe

    Nice review and tutorial. I just bought one yesterday. Plan on using it mostly for sharpening. Mine seems louder than on the few videos I've seen. (Specially on slow speed.) Of course I'm hearing it through computer speakers. Is your grinder as quiet as it seems? I'm just debating if I should exchange it. first grinder so no real frame of reference.

    Check to be sure it doesn’t have any bearing noise if that’s the case then it would be a bad bearing but no my grinder seems to be very quiet I’m really impressed with the minimal vibration right out of the box.

    Bought one of those today for touching up HSS lathe tools; seems worth the $104 I paid for it today. Put a fine grit white wheel on it and after truing up seems fine. Variable speed seems like a nice option. As far as assembly goes, pretty straight forward but instructions don’t provide as much info as the picture on the box does LOL.

    Thank you for your comment. I have now purchased two of these one I use with a steel and then a brass wheel one on each side the variable speed is nice because 3600 RPM for a wire wheel is too fast. The other one I converted to a buffer took the guards off and I love the variable speed for the buffer. Take care Joe

  • @JosephHunstad

    @JosephHunstad

    8 ай бұрын

    OK that is a very good question. Typically a water wheel is a slow rpm wheel. I have a number of these the classic one is obviously the Tormek It is possible I supposed to obtain one of the water troughs and attach it to the side of the grinder but I don’t have any experience with it. I’m interested to see if it works for you. If so, please let me know. Consider subscribing. Thanks, Joe.

    Harbor freight has a three-quarter horsepower variable speed grinder made by Bauer that you might consider. It seems to be very similar to the previous Hercules grinder that I reviewed.

    Thank you for your comment. All of these devices are known as grinding wheel dressers. They can be a rotating wheel, a solid bar, or a diamond encrusted block on a handle which is my preference. I'm a subscriber, to your KZread videos. Is the angled rest for sharpening drill bits, in the left side work rest, for the creation of 118° angles in the heads of sharpened drill bits?

  • @JosephHunstad

    Hello Ken. Yes that angled groove in the tool rest is for drillbit sharpening. You have to be careful to have the angle of the tour rest set to get the proper relief on the bit however. Thanks - Joe

    I have run this machine with wire wheels on it very very hard for a long time and the motor does good hot but it keeps on working. If you take the cover of the base off you’ll see there are four holes in the bottom part of the motor itself. These holes vent into the base which is loosely connected to the motor so The motor vents out to that area. Take care Joe
