The fantastic John Batiste brought me here. He was actually on the phone with Herbie Hancock at Steven Colberts Late Show. Both are generational musical talents.

The musicians who deliver this arrangement of Herbie Hancocks Around Midnight are undoubtedly talented gifted even. Seriously ! what were the Academy thinking. To deny the greatest modern composer Ennio Morricone the Oscar for his score for the Mission is an unforgivable sin. While Hancocks contemporary jazz score sat well, underpinned and enhanced the movie Around Midnight, Ennio Morricone touched the very soul of the viewer and listener. Both a Dustman and Duke could recall and hum the opening bars of the The Mission while unashamedly letting the tears flow. RIP Maestro you live on forever in your compositions. Grazia Mille.

Wonderful rendering of Round Midnight. Truly- Haunting!. Hancock's Keyboard is even reminiscing of Zawinul's Weather Report chords... all in all- a magical version of already a Magical Piece of art.

Ya, he was out of tune or playing out? No, at the ending Clarke backed off as though he heard himself for the first time and came back in softer an less distinct. Couldn't tell if it was technical, or???

No, unfortunately he was off-tune. Herb and Wayne changed the key in order to "fail safe". But I think it was no such a big deal. Errors ar human. what a pitty. This version still is my favorite one of "round mightnight"

This is an arrangement, and Stanley is reading a chart. The bass notes are written out (to a certain extent anyway) to correspond with the arrangement, and there is a fair amount of reharmonization and pedal point to give it that ethereal, harmonically nebulous, “floating” quality. Stanley isn’t f-ing up, lol!

Does Stanley not have perfect pitch? He's not reacting properly to what the other musicians are playing.
