I agree, the way Americans pronounce R, T and D sounds is extremely hard to imitate for most foreigners (with the exception of ppl from Germanic and North European countries). British ppl and Australians don’t stress on them so much and sometimes just don’t pronounce them at all, so it’s a lot easier to follow.

For new beginner i think they should emphasize that exact pronunciation should come later. First, you must have the vocab. Second, just speak, forget the grammar whatnot. This is crucial to help we gain confidence and trust to ourselves. If we're not native, speaking not fluently or in same accent as native should never be an issue. Just learn and slowly practicing in your daily life, you'll get used and brave to speak it like your own mother tongue. Practice do make everything perfect. Goodluck All to those wanted to learn🌹

I learned way more about linguistics than I ever did before when I started tutoring someone from China for fun. I did it as a way to become friends with someone overseas (I was feeling lonely during the height of the pandemic last summer). I've had to learn about and teach sounds I never realized existed. American English has two "th" sounds (the words "thick" and "that" have the two different "th" sounds), as well as 3 different "u" sounds (i.e. luck, look, Luke). I also learned that we have 3 different types of changes to a "t" sound within a word: complete omission (i.e. the word "twenty"), a flap-T (i.e. the word "water"), and a glottal stop (i.e. the word "mountain"). Teaching all these nuances of pronunciation is so dang hard because I'm slowly understanding how to teach them! Also, my friend can't stop adding schwas at the end of certain words and it drives me nuts!

As an Asian myself I agree! Tbh Asians would be better off learning the Brit / Aussie / NZ (not to lump them all together but ykwim) accent because Rs are dropped, the Ts stay as Ts (rather than softening into Ds), and so on. Also the singsong cadence of e.g. the HK accent and Korean accent matches the British accent quite well. Too bad the American accent is the key Western accent portrayed by mass media

The "hard R" can be very hard for non-English speakers, but even in America in the Northeast especially around Boston even native speakers do not pronounce the "hard R." "Car" sounds like "cah", "star' sounds like "stah," "more" sounds like "mo-ah" and so on. Most American's are use to many different dialects among English speakers (since I'm American I don't know about Great Britain dialects much, but I know they do have different dialects. And I'm not sure about Australia.) People in America in the south (stretch out their vowel sounds) sound different than middle America, people in the most northern middle (Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan) pronounce words different. Example "bag" sounds like "beg" "don't you know" sounds like "doen- cha noe" "mom" sounds like "maam," etc. And people who grew up in California have a really kind of high slight nasally tone but say things kind of slow and stretched out. So don't stress too much. Those who care and pay attention will understand what you are saying, but it is awesome to see such passion to pronounce words correctly!

@Little White Rabbit the thing is the student aimed for perfection...yes he did well pronouncing but he noticed still that it was different from how the teacher pronounced it...you don't trick your student by saying it is perfect when it is not just to end it. Be honest in saying, well it is correct and needs a little bit more so it can be perfect.. Besides the student is still eager to improve it so why not give it to him.. I don't mean ill by noticing what the teacher did I was just a bit bothered that she stopped when the student is still eager to exert effort to pronounce the word perfectly.

That's any teachers job. He wants to also make sure he says it perfectly. If she said" Okay that's good. but it really isn't. Then she's not doing her job. Plus him being an actor. He'll probably travel a lot more to english places. where he would need to speak it a little more clearly. I think he did a pretty good job. but like he said he wants to speak it better.

An English accent should be much easier if pronouncing “r” is the main obstacle haha (I read some comments saying Australian too but some vowels in the Australian accent can be hard to imitate)

English speaking people may find this easy to speak but if we were to learn to language I bet its would be difficult😅😅😅 I guess it has something to do with their language that doesn't pronounce L as in english they pronounce it as "I" instead like for Lee Its "iee" for them
