Henry Rollins is a great example of how a punk legend can live past 50 without self destructing or becoming a joke

+Roman Fox I didn't know he has PTSD. I have PTSD and it's hard to find someone who has PTSD and didn't get it from being in a war. I often times feel alone and that no one would understand me even if I say I have it. When people do find out I have PTSD they just assume I'm a war veteran.

@@neal1692 i honestly don't know hkw to describe it, other than people who think liking weird shit nobody's ever heard of makes them unique and a lot better than everyone else. They love Henry's spoken word for example, because it's pretty easy to relate to, it's angry as fuck, and it hates everyone including himself. They don't understand that most of it is written to people like themselves, because he really fuckings hates them. If you remember the "emo" people of the mid 2000's, it's just the same as that just a whole lot worse

@@p.haugen7565 I don't really think Henry is a hipster, he has shown love for underground and mainstream music alike and whenever he talks about more obscure musicians he says they're "just as good" and not "better" than perhaps your Spice Girls or Britney Spears and to add onto that he says he has no problem with the mainstream stuff because it's just fun and that's all its trying to be

I would assume it's because music is subjective and people get defensive of their opinions. Just like it's rare for someone to admit when you've changed their mind, it's rare for a lot of people to say they got into a group they didn't like for one reason or none.

I went into Amoeba my first time in Los Angeles 4 years ago. That place is incredbile! I was in heaven. So many albums of of every kind. I wish they had one in Manhattan.
I friggin love Henry's taste in music! His radio show on KCRW is a fantastic 2 hour experience every Sunday night.
the one guy from the punk era who didn't destroy himself and is brutally honest very straight up no BS .
The one thing that has been consistent for years is Rollins never has an uninteresting suggestion for music or books, he to this day will show you stuff you've never heard of that is always interesting or intense. Hats off!
oh ive had such a crush on henry since i was an angsty teenage grrrl watching the liar video 😍
This reminds me of years ago when Henry played some very cool songs on the radio by a band I knew but I didn't know or have those particular songs or recordings he was playing. (hint, they're from a Nordic country, they had two different names at different periods, they did a great Roky Erickson cover and Lydia Lunch recorded a song with them) These recordings were part of a very extensive, out or print, box set and I was instantly hooked. I want that music bad but it's somewhat rare and quite expensive and I didn't have the dough. Anyway, I wrote Henry an email to thank him for turning me on to this music and I think I made a joke playing off something he said on air to the effect of "if I could nod my head and make __________ happen...". Henry replied with a nice note. He also included a digital download link of the entire box set! Wow!! Dude!!! Incredibly generous. Thank you!!! As I saw it Henry was lending me those records and that should only be temporary. Eventually I got the money and I wanted to do the right thing and buy that box set proper so I'd have the physical media in my hands and not feel like we might have done something less than totally correct. So I went to Discogs, I located a seller in Europe and I bought it at last. It was an arm and a leg to buy--for me anyway. I don't remember how much now but that's not what's important and that's the point I'm driving at. What's important... what I do appreciate and I will always remember is I have that music in my library now, Henry turned me on to it and let me 'borrow it' so to speak. That's what's in my bag. Thank you, Henry. Fanatically...
