I think this was good. Good idea that you kept control of the bucket the whole time…makes you more of a reward for sure. Great job!

The mare is very relaxed and for someone who’s not a pro, you sure are handling her right in this video. Confidence and experience may do it faster, but going slow under the pressure of others going faster is an achievement in it of itself. The length of the session doesn’t matter as long as the mare isn’t stressed.

I appreciate your comment! And yeah you’ve got a good point - threshold is much more important than anything else. I think a lot of this was me going “when does the blow up happen??” Haha

@@henriettathemustang she’s a nice mare. The way you were treating her was with respect. And she responded! Can’t wait to see more. And I think it’s awesome you’re so humble. All you have to say is “This method worked with this horse, and will likely work with other horses that have similar dispositions.” Don’t pay any attention to the social media horse experts. 99 percent of them have never even picked a hoof. Or been kicked. Or thrown. Or stomped on.

Excellent point! I do definitely suffer from social media but I think it just comes from me being excited and wanting to do things with Henry like others are doing. Just gotta make myself chill out haha I’m excited for you to see how it all plays out! I absolutely make mistakes but she’s really forgiving! It’s also fun to see what really engages her and what doesn’t. In all honesty my inexperience really does show between now and haltering because I change my mind when I shouldn’t have, haha. But I think we (mostly I) figure it out after that point

@@henriettathemustang as someone who has a lot of experience, there is no one way to train a dog or horse. There are many ways because the animals vary in temperament. I’ve seen horses and dogs ruined by bad treatment. But also horses and dogs who required force to fix a problem. It’s a balance, as you said. Force is a last resort/ for emergencies. Dole it out too freely and one will damage trust. If you’re totally against it there are animals who test this and then will walk all over you.

i do feel like you couldve started with slight touching. like getting her used to touching you AS she eats her food. it sers helps! but ik its not the same for every horse/situation

First....Henrietta is GORGEOUS!!! That FACE!!! I do have a question...I kept trying to see if you were talking to her. Did you talk to her? If it wasn't for the fact that this is from a year ago, I'd suggest singing softly to her. I can't get over how cool her face markings are!

Her face marking is so cool - under her hair she actually looks like a Petri dish haha. I’m not sure if I have it on video it’s more of a photo moment but I’ll try to point it out if it comes up! And yes, I actually did talk to her! I actually think the next video I make a comment about me talking … but in a few videos that does come up again with her so good thought! I know singing is a common technique which is so fun!

you have to let her eat so shes used to you being around her as you eat! also, teaches her you wont be a threat for her food.
