    Nice expose of this unit. Only one I can find that really shows it's strengths and weaknesses clearly. Lovely juicy sound it imparts! Though sometimes a little too much loss of transients for the master, but I'd hate to get the SS version and loose the tube magic. So wish I could watch you play with both side by side! I hope this doesn't mean I need an oven lol! So out of my price range. But I must say I like your particular style in how you show us what this gear can do. An old video you did on the RND MBP helped my decision to get that last year and I love it. Thanks!

    @@WillBorza Since you have both the MBP and the MA tube version would you think the 2 together could make a nice 2 bus for acoustic music? They seem to complement each other well for my taste but hard to say without trying them... Have you played with the 2 together? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

  • @WillBorza

    They would definitely complement each other. Tube warmth from MA + Transformer Sat from the MBP is a match made in heaven! The MA does have a lot of sound to it - just passing audio through changes the character significantly, so you gotta be really intentional when you reach for it.

    @@WillBorza Exactly my feeling and concern. Thanks so much for replying. I really want a box to complement my MBP in a constantly active 2 bus chain that would be part of my sound. Though I absolutely love the sound of the MA I am concerned it may be not be able to be clean enough to stand up to the task of constantly being on my 2 bus. On the other hand I have never heard an eq that comes close to the sound in my head as this does. Any suggestions of if it could work or of other eqs to consider? Thanks again for the great content.

    on the one hand I like what it can do, but in 99% cases when bypassing the unit I prefer the raw version, it seems to cloud the sound which forces you to add highs which makes me go "aahh", but when bypassed it's becoming even more clear. For mastering I could live with even less range, 1/3 of 1/3

    How do you find the low end for hip-hop/trap mastering , also would you use it in the beginings of a mastering chain for shaping (before clean and precise eq ) or in the end for final adjustments ? Thanks , its amazing :)

  • @WillBorza

    @WillBorza

    3 жыл бұрын

    Low end is juicy, thick, round, big - but if you need more tightness/definition, maybe use a different eq (tubes have a tendency to round over transients while solid state can reinforce transients). Given the headroom of this thing and that the magic really lives in the “aggression” knob, I like to use this near the beginning of a mastering chain.

After viewing your video I'll be buy Dangerous Music Convert-AD+.Please, tell me, how you connect Convert-AD+ to your computer in this video for final recording after Michelangelo: SPDIF or ADAT, or USB?Thank you! Now your sound is my choice too!

    That’s great! You’re going to love it! The AD+ can be connected via USB, AES, spdif, or toslink, but it’s only half the equation. Do you already have a D to A? In my studio, I have a Lynx Hilo connected to my computer via USB, then the Convert-2 and Convert AD+ are both connected to the Hilo via AES.

    @@WillBorza that's the better way to do choices but...it is pricy. In my case I can't handle these gear trials. But I rely on old vintage gears I can buy, recap, etc. Recently I'm investigating inductor based ones . They're quite interesting for individual tracks.
