    Dear Viral Orchard, Your guided tour of the wonders of Hendersonville is very much like I remember from my time living there. (Fool that I am, I moved back to Ohio. Fool, Fool, FOOL!!!) But I have to take issue with one of the wonders you neglected to mention: The Annual Hendersonville Christmas Parade of the Stars!!! OMG, I LOVED that parade. It’s the only “Doo-Dah Parade” I ever saw that was convinced it was the Tournament of Roses, and acted accordingly. I’ve seen the new “post-bypass” parade on videos here, and I suppose that is much safer, but my familiarity harkens back to the classic days when only three lanes of Gallatin Road were closed to accommodate the marchers, and traffic was maintained on the other two. The parade lined up on Rockland Road (in front of what was then The Oak Ridge Boys office), and up the first block of Free Hill Road to the gas station at the light. It then turned right and marched through town to what was then Drake’s Creek Park (now Memorial), where it made a loop in the parking lot, and went back the other way. The result was you saw everything twice-only a little more disjointed the second time around. There were the obligatory fire trucks (hook & ladder came, of course!!!), police cars, decorated business floats (Domino’s threw “Noid” figures), classic cars, and marching bands. If you were really lucky, Chris Clark would come out and narrate the parade for public access television. (One year, he was joined by Miss Mae Axton, who cheerily announced something like “Mr. & Mrs. John Smith in their 1920 Model T Ford.” And then turned to Chris Clark and asked (on an open mike), “Who’s that?” I nearly had to peel my brother off the floor, he was laughing so hard!!! There are just no words to tell you how much I LOVED that parade. If you take some high school marching bands, tour buses, shrine clowns, and assorted famous (and semi-famous) people, put ‘em in a bag and shook ‘em up, and then added a decorated garbage truck from the sanitation department (No, I’m not kidding!!! Hey, they washed it out!!!), you would have the Hendersonville Christmas Parade of the Stars. And since everybody’s home this year due to Covid, everybody who is anybody ought to come and be a part of it. If I had the money to travel to Nashville right now, you are d*mn tootin’ I’d be there!!! This parade alone is worth the trip!!!

    My family moved to Hendersonville late in 1976, even before McDonald's opened in 1977. I think what you thought was a Hardee's used to be a Burger King, if it's near the old K-Mart site at Gallatin Rd. & Indian Lake Rd. It was worse going to Nashville before the bypass was built. It used to require taking Gallatin Rd. all the way into Goodlettsville and turning at Two-Mile Pike (where Rivergate is) then waiting to turn onto I-65 from there.

    Reason 12. Discount Stores. Most suburbs would give anything to have just one Goodwill store. Well, with Hendersonville you can now have two. And if Goodwill isn't your thing, you can also choose from Ross or Steinmart.

  • @PAL1DOR
    @PAL1DOR12 жыл бұрын

    Reason 11. Hendersonville always ensures new buildings are constructed for discount stores such as Goodwill, which is fortunately coming to Indian Lake.... right next to Union University. The city understands that vacant lots such as Kmart and Food Lion are very important for the culture of its citizens and wouldn't dare filling them.
