Hemp Homes - Building A Sustainable Industry
This year we built the very first homegrown, processed, & made all right here in WA! To make it all the sweeter, our son began his building apprenticeship with Gary and constructed his very first Hemp wall together.
Isn't it wild to think that you can grow a significant amount of the required materials to build your own home in just 14 weeks?
Building with Hemp offers a wide range of benefits. Despite being bonded with strong natural fibres, the build will be highly breathable and mould resistant. On top of that, the entire house is grown, processed and built within 11km of each other.
As you can see, we've gone to great lengths to ensure our builds have a low environmental impact... And we can't wait to do more with this excellent building material!

Thank you for your kind words. I don't have a hemp house either at the moment, but hopefully will do when Gary's get time!😀
Hemp is the future, thank you for all your hard work bringing it into the present.
I'm happy to see that my hard work for hemp prohibition to end, did work in the end. Now marijuana prohibition needs to end, it was Jack Herer' dream & I intend to see it fulfilled. He opened my mind to the benefits of both hemp & Cannabis.
Well done, Hemp was our past and it is our future if we embrace it now in the present. I work with Ashford Hemp Industries here in NSW, we hear you.

EXCELLENT ! The big oil / paper bods have suppressed Hemp for too long now Its so good to see people going against the grain & using natural resources that are actually better overall than more ‘traditional’ methods Well done 👍🏼

Thank you, we love working with Hemp👍
Great video ! When you mention you seal around your windows, what product do you use or how do you do that? Spray foam first comes to mind, but seems a shame to introduce toxic chemicals that in such a healthy home. 3:53
What equipment are you using to separate the hurd and fibre? Scale, cost ballpark?
Hello I love this industry with a passion...and if you want to build a passive home and go one step further..you could install CLEAR VUE solar glass...there western Australian based to...how awsome...nice looking windows that act like solar panels.

I'd love to build a solar home here in the Noosa Hinterland in Qld. Can you suggest some resources for me to get started?
Congrats 👏, looks stunning. My only concern is the dimensions of the hemp hurd, are not too small?

No not at all there are several company's makeing hempcrete and hemp blocks in Australia and there no issues.
Awesome ..Promo..Q1 i see you are treating the Speed bracing - why and what with.. Q2 What issue have you had with Certifiers and demonstrating standards ..

Hi, lime in the hempcrete corrodes the bracing, we use a anti-corrosive sealant. No problem, to build in your local shire, the binder is certified.
Internal walls are Hempcrete too? If leave them unrendered does dust settle in them? Wet areas - how / what do you seal shower walls?
@margaretriverhempco5899

Hi, yes, the internal walls are hempcrete too - basically one wall inside and out. All the homes that we have built have all had no render on the inside. We had one client vaccum her wall and she had min dust! Wet areas - we render with a natural clay. Happy to answer further questions, if need? Here is my email - hemp@hempco.net.au Georgina

Forgive me if this is a redundant question, but how does it do in a wet climate, like the PNW in the US/Canada?

Hi there, as long as you render the outside of the hempcrete walls. No problem at all.
Bu duvarlara vida kullanarak raf, dolap gibi ürünler takabilirmiyiz...
would you please share a rough estimate of cost of using hempcrete and traditional concrete material for building house or room of a particular area?

@@margaretriverhempco5899 Hi! Thank you for your message. Actually, I am a researcher in this field so I was just curious about its cost in comparison with the conventional material. It is really good to see potential of hemp in different areas. By the way I live in Pakistan. Not that I plan to build it but just looking at the R&D point of view.

Yes you can...either using this guys method of stuffing moulds with loose hempcrete or if you prefer more convenience and super rapid construction you can buy blocks from hemp block Australia...he is based on the Sunshine Coast qld.
I would love to join the apprenticeship program. And being this knowledge to Phuket and Thailand. What’s the best way to continue the conversation?

Hi there, not to sure where you live, but you need to find a builder in your state that builds with hemp, then ask them for an job. Our son is going through a carpentry apprenticeship now, but is an expect in hemp because he has worked on hemp houses.
