My father was the actual contractor for the dome home and the Xanadu homes in Wisconsin and Orlando. Sadly he passed away in the 80s due to exposure of the chemicals in these homes. I got actually photos of me as a five your old on the sites when they blew up the bubbles and sprayed them with foam.

I was thinking the same thing, wondering what compound chemicals were used? however, they did not en discuss this at all. I am very sorry for your loss. I can feel your sadness. It is so sad that we have to question almost everything in order to make informed decisions. So much great ideas with very little knowledge of long term affects.

The only reason I’m considering a dome house is so I can live in the Gulf. Where there are Hurricanes. Dome homes survive the winds and if they can be placed the right way, they can survive the surges as well.

My mom and dad had one, but inland. It survived a tornado that destroyed a A frame next door. I was in the dome house when it hit. All I could hear was the shingles flapping some as it literally walked around the roof. That was in Texas too. Outstanding! I would buy one myself in a heartbeat. They are very nice. Plus if you have 3 doors spaced around the house, the air flow is really great and no need for a ac unless you don’t like humidity on a hot day. It is very energy efficient.

@@jcrefasi1 It reached 95F inside our house at the worst moment, right before we fled, mother, daughter and 20 year old cat, to a motel with a/c for three days. I had filled a plastic container with cool water for my mom’s feet which were red and swollen, constantly emptying and filling ice cube trays, bringing fresh water to the cat who was sprawled out on the floor barely moving. It was really frightening and overwhelming. I am 60 and Mom’s in her eighties. We are blessed with having the funds to flee the house. Many people died over the worst three days and nights of unheard of heat, something around 700 souls. The day after we left I broke down and sobbed to a perfect stranger. The little town of Lytton is no more. 90% of it burned down because of the extreme heat. They had ten minutes to gather necessities and get out of the area.

We’re not waterfront but close enough to the ocean that we have Arbutus trees nearby. I think the Latin name is Madrone? Aka strawberry trees. Most of them are dying from ? It’s a shame, they are lovely and unusual trees with reddish brown bark that peels naturally.

There people who can build them for you but the real problems come from insurance companies, loan companies, building codes and home owners associations. If you really want to build a dome home, you have to do it outside of that whole system. Otherwise, be prepared for alot of red tape and extra expense.

How about, instead of a dome, you built an oval? Same materials, but orienting the broad sides to the morning and evening sun. Thin side toward the noon day sun would limit heat absorption during the hottest part of the day. Emulate a termite mound. They know what's up.

You can have just about any shape of elipsoid that you want. www.monolithic.org/ But for the reason you describe it isn’t needed. These domes are pulling the earths temperature from the lowest point of the concrete footer throughout the uninterrupted concrete of the whole dome. It’s like turbocharging the E-rating of the closed-cell foam layer that is on the outer side of the concrete. monolithicdome.com/

I just love offgrid homes. Specially dome and geodesic homes, they are really cool and beautiful! I didn't know about that contstruction technique using baloons. Very interesting and practical! The home featured in the video is very cool. I dream of living in a dome home someday, but for now the circumstances of my life don't allow me to do so. I would construct a more futuristic dome house, and probably consisting of more than one dome. Perhaps four. I don't know. And I would seek for a more futuristic look, but not exatcly synthetic. I mean with a rustic aspect but somewhat resembling a sci-fi contruction, all with round and curved shapes in the interior, but all naturally lit in the day. The cabinets would be as much as possible integrated with the house, made of the same material which the house itself would be made of. I would aim for a sustainable, eco-friendly house.

@September I went to your channel to see if you were interesting. I watched your cop video. It disgusted me. "Driving while black", "dirty cops"? You didn't know why the vehicle was pulled over, but were prepared to make assumptions and accusations. There could have been a warrant out for a dangerous person. Maybe they were looking for someone, and the person in the vehicle or the vehicle matched a description. This was around the time of CHOP in Seattle, so cops were likely being more cautious. There are a number of reasons for having four police cars there. I've seen three for traffic stops quite often in the last couple of years. Why not? It likely intimidates any would be cop killer. You and the other onlookers kept feeding each other more conspiracies. You did nothing but reinforce each other's preconceived beliefs. It greatly saddens me that you seem to have an interest in education. Teachers should be full of love, not negativity. Over 200 cops have left the police force since you made that video. Seattle just saw a 26 year high in homicides. Your sentiment is a grain that added to a heap. Which lead to less police, and higher crime rates. I doubt that you will accept that you played a role in the suffering of those citizens. I hope that one day you see what hate is doing to you, and let go of it. For a change, I have actually seen this house in person, from this very angle (opening shot)! It makes it seem more intimate and real. I've never been inside. This view is coming down the last stretch of Schnebly Hill Road.

I love these unique looking and very organic homes. Problem is that I don't like it when people come into my home, past the living room. Home is a sacred sanctuary to me, so I wouldn't share it with people. With the exception of family and very close friends. At least if the domes had entrances that don't intrude into the main house, that'd be awesome.

Great design. I think ill consider building in this way with one exception id use hempcrete instead of concrete and i dont think id use the balloon system but because the hempcrete is so much lighter rebar and bamboo perhaps

After having a yurt studio for almost two decades I believe human beings think better and feel better in a round space. I agree with the gentleman one hundred percent. Our energetics as human beings certainly does not move in squares so my theory is that is why this is so.

Interesting, there is a Family Building Foam domes down here in Cochise County, but in a different sort of way very affordably. Lucky we have the Owner Builder Opt Out permit down here that give folks the opportunity to build alternative such of structures with out the Hassle of normal permits.

Where can I find more information on the construction design and methods? The builder’s claim of R-85 insulation seems preposterous but I’m open to evidence and would like to know how that was achieved.

Homes like this, fast to construct, low cost to build and economical to maintain, should be being built en masse to combat the crazy housing/ homeless situation that is epidemic throughout the western world at the moment. We've been 'homeless' for nearly 2 years now. I would absolutely be willing to be involved in building our own home along these lines. If I had the resources, and gvmts burnt the red tapes, I would be building these. For anyone who needed a home.
