Helping Your Child Develop Resilience (Part 1) - Dr. Kathy Koch

When it comes to instilling character in our kids, the most essential aspect we can teach and model for them is resilience. Dr. Kathy Koch explores the importance of resilience in our lives and how we can nurture that trait in our children. As a parent, you are the key to your child’s resilience! Through intentional modeling, ongoing conversation and observation, and encouragement, you can help them learn to bounce back from struggles, get unstuck, and move forward with courage and confidence.

Thank you for this broadcast! I have three kids and I sometimes push away what they're going through and need to learn how to sit with them and understand their emotions. Meet them where they're at.

This is so, so incredibly timely for me and my family (we have 3 little boys). I want nothing more than to protect them at all times, but I know it’s not always what’s best. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I’ll be re-watching this many times! ❤

Just saw a news piece from some parents who lost their daughter in a sand hole RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM and are trying to educate about the dangers of digging those. Traumatized a whole bunch of people who watched the frantic digging and removal of dead little girl. Apparently those cave in and should never be deeper than the knees of the shortest child playing in/around it! Who knew? Yes, kids die all the time, and we can’t bubble wrap them against all harm, but we can be wise and heed warnings of others who’ve faced the ultimate loss of their child in an easily preventable incident.

Great broadcast! I think part of why parents minimize events is because we've heard experts say NOT to give energy/attention to those things, less they become enlarged and "true". Hard to know when to apply each tactic.

Cathy Koch is sooo wise ! Sounds corny but recalling the Waltons, they taught their kids process, consequences, responsibility. Allowed them to step out on a limb, under watchful parental eyes, then learn from their success or failure. Rewarded for evidence of learning, not just for breathing !

I went through the link, and didn't notice right away that it had an arrow down at the bottom of the assessment intro page. Scroll down and see if it's there for you. Clicking it should take you to the assessment questions.

But what do you do when your adult offspring doesn't want to hear your apologies. It's as if he doesn't want to accept that I wasn't perfect or is it that he doesn't want to admit his hurt bc I'm hurting bc of what I did or didn't do. I wish I could understand what he is thinking and how to grow a more open relationship. Thank you for this show. I listen frequently.
