    That small snippet of information about getting your fingers inside the ball helped me figure out why I couldnt get the proper spin on my ball. I was getting rotation laterally so the ball spun like a top but stayed completely straight down the lane. I knew I needed to do something, and you helped me figure out what. 👍

    I hadn’t bowled in a league since 1987 and quickly realized that the game has changed. My pso told me a redemption solid would be a good first ball for a guy with no hand, low rev and low speed. He was right but I’m having the most success standing at 10 and assuming for around 8. Standing left has only worked for me in practice on dry lanes...it don’t work in league at all. I definitely gotta work on my release...your videos have been helpful in that

    Thanks for doing this. I've seen other channels trying to explain the same thing and they just fall short poor camera angles lacking explanation. Also doing it in slow motion and showing what you're doing with your wrist in your elbow into the body makes it make a lot more sense. I've watched other videos trying to watch their hands and see but it happens so quick. It looks like you do the wrist twist right about the foul line? I think timing is just as important as what you're doing with the wrist

    Great vid JR thanks for all you do. Question I've always had is when can you tell if you want to throw across with a snap hook, vs. coming in at a lower straighter angle? Is coming in at a smaller angle better long as your ball doesn't deflect? What to high revers always rev it so much, is that just for pin carry? It seems every time I see crankers they have a hard time staying consistent so i never understood the logic there as to when you use the heavy snap, guessing it's when the solid or straighter / smaller angles deflect and leaving 10?

    Love your videos, have helped a lot. Need one on hitting your mark. I do a three-step, with a 14lb, (dark code and phase iii, and IQ for my spare ball). My aim point is the 10 arrow, usually hit 11 or 12, but once in a while the ball goes 5 or 6 boards left. I watch the arrow until the ball is past, and try to keep the approach and release consistent as possible. But can still blow my mark by a wide margin. Help!?

    Oftentimes, the ball we use isnt the problem. It's how we perceive the ball that changes how the ball changes motion. Let me give you an example of this: I had an Ebonite GameChanger that was my first reactive bowling ball. I had it for a long time. But then I got a Storm IQ Tour Emerald, and I liked its color and smell and I enjoyed how much it hooked for me (it was stronger than the GameChanger). However, because I preferred the IQ over the GameChanger, I found I never used the Ebonite ball and even when I did, I disliked its motion. Then I got rid of it and got the Storm Pitch Black. For me, that was the best decision I could make. I preferred Storm equipment and therefore was able to learn how to shape the ball the way I wanted, and it was all because I liked a different ball company.

    @@DeanMcCain I acknowledge that sometimes you like the shape of a ball or like the motion that a specific company is famous for, but this is more than that. This ball.... it’s crazy. It has all the forgiveness of urethane, but it carries everything. And you can make a 2-1 or 3-1 move and be right back in the pocket. It is laughably easy to strike, it’s like it has a homing device to the 1-2. It just allows me to play my absolute A++ game on both house and also a plethora of sport patterns. When I get three boards of miss on a house shot and 2 boards of miss on a sport pattern, I’m hard to handle on a given night, and this ball provides it. I know exactly why the storm and global people don’t like this ball on tour. It does stuff that the pitch black or the booyah or any Tank can do. I hope that Brunswick’s pour of this ball is at least 90% as good as the Kentucky ball is, cause they will sell a warehouse full of them. It’s just special. I’m telling people now: if you don’t have staff obligations, go find one of these things and punch it up. You will not be disappointed.

    @@CurtisL8.3066 idk man. The tank blitz hooks more than any urethane ball. Purple hammer is good but I'd say the blitz is the most aggressive non resin ball we have currently. Yet its not exactly urethane so it is what it is

    @@stompingpeak2043 it’s not about being stronger, it’s about where it lets me start and where it lets me finish in league. My miss is typically outside and the ball covers that up nicely, but if I tug it, it shims right into the pocket. If I’m gonna shoot 650 plus every night, i need room like that. I’ve kinda migrated to some short pin reactive balls for house but the idea is the same.

  • @stompingpeak2043

    @stompingpeak2043

    @@CurtisL8.3066 I'm just saying that miss room is there with something like the blitz as well. I'm not a fan boy of either line but I've seen the tank blitz as the absolute best non resin ball there is. If you miss right or left it will carry while still creating angle. Unlike urethane. It will carry as well. Urethane requires light or flush hits to strike. Where the polycell cover doesn't. Its like half reactive and half urethane.

    Alright serious comment, I wonder if it is even necessary to move left at all if you don't get a lot of rotation? I mean if I'm only getting about 320 or so RPM, couldn't I just stay on the right and play a direct line anyways? That's what I've been doing: Stay to the right and stay aggressive...until I started getting injured. I'm better now but worried I'll get injured again if I get in a situation where I gotta throw the ball harder. Does JR have some content on that?

  • @mikelombard21
    @mikelombard212 жыл бұрын

    Thanks so much JR. I went bowling tonight and when I tried to stay right cause i'm a amateur with low revs and speed, hoping to play it straight, the ball hooked and read the lane early. So, I tried to move left to get into the oil to get the ball down the lane, then the ball would not hook enough, I assume because my revs are low. Do you have any advice for someone who over hooks when they play the outside but can't hook in the middle of the lane? Also my ball is pretty strong so that may be a factor i'm not considering. It just feels so inconsistent which I'm sure is my release. Probably different every time. I bowl with a Storm Trend.

    Yeah you gotta open your shoulders up when moving left. Or else you'll stand left shoot left which is kinda what you want to do on super long sport patterns but not on house shots. On house shots you either stand left shoot right or stay right and stay aggressive/loft.

    The reason I said that I was just wondering why you were playing so far left having to throw the ball out to the right, but then again it could be a reverse block or the inside to burn out and that's why you were playing on the left and throwing it to the right.

    I can't even throw that first shot. My ball will go straight into the gutter. Just bought a Motiv Venom Shock and I have to stand at 10 and throw at 10 to get to the pocket. Lots of hanging 10's. If I move left, I hit right of the pocket. If I stand right, it goes brooklyn. How to get enough hook to move even a tiny bit more left?

    Hi JR, I have watched and practiced all of your lessons on proper release but I still helicopter the ball, is there any other recommendations you could give me? My consistency is awful and it is probably due to a bad release.

  • @DeanMcCain

    @DeanMcCain

    3 жыл бұрын

    I can give you a sort of answer. The best way to learn how to not helicopter the ball is to do a line drill or even a one step. This way you can learn how to do both hand and arm. Arm is a big part of it because if your elbow moves out (called a chicken wing), it can cause you to helicopter, and if your hand is forcing rotation, that's going to helicopter. One steps and line drills can help you focus on just those areas, and from there, you can go up and learn how to do it with a full approach. Another way to help is by throwing a football underhand as this will teach your hand the kind of feeling you should get when releasing a ball. A bowling way to help is when you get to the top of your swing to move the ball out (point it in the direction of which hand you use (right for righties and left for lefties), then on the downswing tuck the elbow inside and let the swing do the rest. These are couple tips I have learned from my coaches.

    @@DeanMcCain I appreciate the answer! I have tried one step, and no step drills in the past but maybe I didn't do enough of them. I always keep my elbow tucked. That is one of the first things my grandpa taught me so I always make sure I can feel it during the backswing. I will try the other suggestion next time I go practice.

    I had the exact same issue my freshman year as a college bowler. It's from two things: First is suitcasing/chicken winging like what Random is saying, and second I guarantee you aren't dropping your shoulder far enough. You need to make sure that shoulder is as far down as you can get it. The further the better. Keeping your shoulders square almost guarantees you to spin the ball like a top cuz there is an imbalance cuz you got a 15 (or 14 or 16) pound ball in one of your hands. So your shoulder will want to drop anyways. I think as soon as you drop your shoulder you'll helicopter the ball way less. It pretty much instantly helped me.

    @@SirJoelsuf1 My coach actually (when I was a one hander) had me and my older sister to suitcase to teach us the art of changing hand positions as well as to teach us how to avoid the getting our elbows out (chicken wing). There is a way to properly do a suitcase but it can take a lot of training to learn properly. I did forget about the dropping shoulder part. I'm so used to doing it that I forgot about it.
