    @@Kysa1140 YESSSSSS!! Sunday afternoon I received the call and couldn't get there fast enough. He was found 3 miles away in the edge of a forest thousands of acres large. Thankfully he knew to approach a familiar looking mother and daughter for help. They took him to the local pet store who told them he was missing and they called me. Thank's to Marlene's Parrot Station & 911 Parrot Alert Facebook site's. They immediately jumped into their protocols. It was so emotional for us all including Saint who started squawking immediately once he saw me. OMG!! He and I immediately began hugging & kissing. He's doing good, we both caught up on our sleep & nutrition. I gave him a physical checkup and after I gradually started hydrating him a little at a time and giving him applesauce plus his fresh veggies afterwards he recovered. Sunday night a cold front dropped on us, temperature dropped to 26° degrees. He and I have been attached together shoulder to wing ever since. 💘💜💘🥰

    Former bird rehab here. Scratch marks on the face are consistent with cat claws. He could have puncture wounds all over. I would have taken him straight to the emergency vet for liquid nutrients, examination & X-rays. If he vomits, or his crop is compacted, he has crop damage-please don't feed him anymore solids or liquids (allow his tongue to touch a small amount of grape to absorb electrolytes through the tongue (for the drive) and get him in ASAP. The slow blinking is consistent with pain. He's fluffing up. Not good at all. He's slow with lifting the legs and walking. My worry is deep claw puncture wounds to the crop and possibly the abdomen & vital organs (small & hard to detect and may not bleed). Good luck and let us see how he pulls through. I know you're "flying solo" tonight and it's hard to take care of everything all at once.

    Amazing advice I was thinking the same thing and his neck seems to be injured in some way as he seems to not lift it the way he should be able to I can't imagine how scared the poor guy is. Also may I ask what is you're stance on round cages? All the research I've done says birds need corners to be able to feel safe and hide in if nessasary

    ꧁Shelby Matthews ꧂ just wanted to say I think rectangular/long cages are best because they allow room for your bird to fly/stretch it’s wings vs a round cage which generally has less horizontal space for a bird to fly.

    FRIENDLY BIRD DISEASE PSA: So the head tilting/drooping behavior is called torticollis, it's also colloquially referred to as 'stargazing'. There are a bunch of causes, including diseases, so make sure you adhere to quarantine procedures with this bird. If this is viral, then it's likely avian paramyxovirus. Certain strains have very high mortality. There are vaccines (pigeon fanciers often vaccinate all their birds) available and it just might be worthwhile to vaccinate your other birds if you have not already done so. For sure this bird needs to be seen by a vet if the head drooping doesn't clear up with rest and food. Edit: At 21:07 you mention he turns his head completely upside down - that's torticollis. It's the result of muscle weakness (his neck muscles are too weak to lift his head). This is NOT caused by smacking into a window or living in a small cage. Muscle weakness can result from generalized malnourishment, specific nutritional deficiencies, brain trauma, or diseases attacking the nervous system.

He dodged wild prey birds because our backyard is a body of water with many wild animals and eagles that often fly bear the house and how he survived we don't know. He flew on the screen door needing help . We tried everything including phoning nearby vets , parrot alert etc .No one has owned up to being his owners and we are still searching but it's been over 6months so he is family now thank god.

    a few months ago, I helped a dog get home on the next door app. A neighbor found a yorkie(aggressive bugger) after someone took him to her, thinking he was hers(she had a yorkie). I looked on next door and someone had posted about their lost yorkie. I gave a brief description and she sent a picture. Everything she said lined up with the dog I saw. I went to the neighbors who found him and they had taken him to the shelter, since he was attacking their dog. Gave the info the the owner and she was reunited with her dog! It felt amazing that he was able to get home! Also advised microchipping him(he wasn't) and she said she is doing that right away after that close call!

    As a parrot owner for many many decades, It would be advisable to get that bird to an emergency vet. As I am sure you may be aware of, parrots dont show signs of illness to almost too late. Vets may be expensive, esp in emergencies, but you would do the parrot good by rushing him to the vet right away. Don't even wait 1 night. After owning many many species of parrots, i am the proud father of 4 macaws (1 hyacinth, 2 greenwings, 1 scarlet), and a mini macaw (illigers). All are chipped as well, all are fully flighted too. I also never cover my birds at night and leave a "moon glow" lamp on in the bird room, so they can look around if they wake up. I agree with you that each and every bird has thier own personalities and you can see it in thier eyes. Do that little guy a big favor and run to the vet!

    So glad you are helping him. His neck seems sore. He probably lives near where he was found. When birds get out of the house they don't fly far as they are not used to flying that much unless they were free flying birds. Birds can't fly a marathon when outside. It's like us, we have to build are self up to run marathons or walk far. If he only flew around the house they can't get far. Some birds can get far day by day if they move a little bit each day but they usually get exhausted and hungry and get weak or hurt like this one. Hope his real owner is found.

    Watching how calmly you handle feeding him, and how fragile and unsure he asks, made me cry, but only because I'm so happy you were there to show him kindness and hospitality when he really was in need for it. Unsure of his story aside from just showing up in need, but that alone is sad and I'm glad he went to a place with such expertise and care. The way he cranes his neck is so sad, reminds me of a puppy in a corner with their tail between their legs and ears back.. Poor guy has had a rough time. I send him and your other animals lots of love! I hope that warmth reaches them.

    Sounds like he probably got lost similar to how Picasso did, and then got in a fight with something, more than likely an outdoor cat. Is he flighted, wings clipped or can't fly because of injury? He's flfuffing up and apparently fluffing their feathers in such a manner as she/he was doing *could* mean pain or internal injury. I myself wouldn't fully trust who the bird immediately steps up on. If they do that's fine but I'd have the 'owner' tell you words the bird normally says and wait a few days listening for those. When I first got my moluccan she immediately stepped up on me and forgot all about her rescue caretaker. And I had never met her before. Good luck finding their owners, you are a bird saint ❤

    I worked in a small bead store and one of our usual customers said she found an African Grey parrot in her gutters. She was cleaning the leaves out of her gutters when she found what looked like a dead bird. Turns out she was just wet and cold. So she brought her in, dried her off and tried feeding her. She was scared of everyone for a while. As soon as she could, she printed out flyers for the lost bird. She took her to the vet and made sure everything was okay. She eventually found out the bird could talk, and after a while the bird started saying , "Scarlet". So that was her name. No one claimed her for several months, so now she has a parrot. XD She's a beauty, and super cuddly.

    Just a note on scratches on a bird. Cat scratches can cause life threatening infections. Even one cat scratch or bite mark is all it takes. It can cause blood poisoning

  • @jmdenison

    @jmdenison

    that's pretty dramatic. there's bacteria and vruses all over the place. if a human or animal has a reaction from one cat scratch, they have a fairly compromised immune system and should get trip to a doc or vet. most of us get scratched, bitten, bruised with no ill effects every day. try probiotics if that is your experience to build your immune system

    @@islandbirdw yep. I take my supplements and NEVER get sick. everything everywhere carries bacteria. your skin is comprised of 200+ pro bacterias. every where you go, there are millions of bacteria (strep, e coli, etc.) and viruses on every surface. the key is build your immune system. I have had cats for 40 years now, feral, outdoor and tons of rescues and tons of dirty, scratchy bitey cats. before I took supplements, I might get slight fever once in a while,but now, I not only have scratchy cats, but bitey birds. and dogs and cats I kiss on the mouth all the time. never sick. vits B, lypo C, D3, probiotics sulfur is the key
