I grew up in Helena in the 70's. We aren't Catholic but I remember that everyone in town is very proud of that beautiful cathedral. You can hear the chiming from many miles away.

@@margaretthatcher6828to be honest. Montana is a summer place. Butte is really getting bad. I don’t think butte even has but 1 Nice Hotel. The 130 year old red brick buildings are mostly all falling apart. No jobs there. You hear businesses closing down almost weekly, and those businesses were like 90 years old. So, what does that say? Montana has some MAJOR PROBLEMS coming on. They spent their Covid Money too. Terrible.

I lived in Montana from 1990 to 1998 and worked in the State capital in 1996. You should have taken the tour of the capital. There is so much more to see. They have some beautiful paintings that are huge. Many paintings from CM Russel of cowboys, Native Americans, and landscapes. He also did bronzes.

You have to remember they are primarily on the state capital tour and there is a long way between Olympia and Helena. Its almost 600 miles, and time has to be tight. I know they did Spokane, but that was probably a good place to take a break and do another city. CDA is a beautiful city, but there are more than a dozen cities in northern Idaho and western Montana that are beautiful also. Hopefully they will be able to come back someday and have the time to check them all out. I have lived here for over 40 years and still finding great little places to explore, they only have a few days.

CdA is absolutely lovely and some if it is because of outsiders spending $...

I grew up in Washington state (west & east side) and that's all I ever heard from people in Seattle over to Spokane. xman doesn't mention the horrible history CDA and that area has with welcoming & harboring members of the Aryan Nations. The scenery may be beautiful but the soul of the area has been tainted for decades.

Standouts for me were a) the Big Sky (the country is so very vast!), and b) that glorious cathedral, with its beautiful stained-glass windows. Fortunately, I watched this video while eating lunch, so seeing the food at the end didn't provoke hunger pangs, as often happens when I watch the videos at odd times of the day or night. Thanks very much for these most enjoyable films - they are really appreciated. Cheers from a cool to mild ( 19°C) autumn in Melbourne, Australia!

My father was a member of the First Special Service Force which was organized and trained in Helena during WWII. It was a Canadian/American special operations brigade of under 2,000 men. They were the original special opps soldiers; precursors to all special opps of today. Coined the “Devils Brigade”, they were instrumental in many operations in the European Theater. Perhaps, most importantly, the taking of Mt LaDefensa, a Nazi stronghold which opened the route through Italy to Rome. Another great video! Thanks

Helena was the hometown of the movie star Gary Cooper, and also Robert Fletcher who wrote the lyrics for the song, 'Don't Fence Me In'. The latter was one of the Cowboy Poets who were in vogue in the early half of the twentieth century. During the Great Depression most of the Broadway songwriters--Irving Berlin, Dorothy Fields, Oscar Hammerstein, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter--were out in Hollywood writing songs for movies. Cole Porter was assigned to write for a Western in 1934. Somehow he came across Fletcher's poem and paid him $250 for it. The movie was never made, but ten years later when Hollywood was producing films for War Bond drives it was rescued from the shelves of MGM (iirc) and it fell to Roy Rogers (and Trigger) to perform in 'Hollywood Canteen'. Bing Crosby and the Andrew Sisters picked it up and it became a huge hit. Porter eventually assigned half the royalties to Fletcher, making him wealthy beyond his job with the Montana Highway Dept. He also wrote the original Historic Markers that dot Montana's highways to this day. Porter was said to have hated the song.

Loved Wyoming last August. Visited Cody...a very nice little town. Highly recommended. Saw a rodeo there. Then we took long way around to Yellowstone....on the Chief Joseph scenic highway...I wouldn't call it a highway, but boy, was it scenic!

Where is no doubt about it that church is miraculous I guess it's a word That's stained glass is incredible that blows my mind how they can do that I used to work at a place that did stain glass but all I did was sit on a bumper all day polishing the little pieces of glass I never did any lead work worked with three other people anyway that was then years ago 82 81 something like that but thanks for another great video y'all Helena Montana I bet it's cold as all get out in the winter there they can have that kind of weather you picked a good time to go through there.

You are right - this is a pretty town. The builders of the Abba Shrine were certainly planning for the future to build such a huge center and also to build it to stand for quite some time. I really liked that rock house on the corner. Thanks.

I love the sound of church bells. I also love the old West feel of the town. So odd to have a middle Eastern spire on a building downtown. Just seemed so out of place. Thanks a bunch. Safe travels.

About 60 years ago we climbed the trail to Mt Prospect outside of Lake George, NY and there was a similar fire tower at the summit.

Great video guys love that part of the country. Montana Wyoming, Idaho, the Dakotas. All are great. Especially love Montana and Wyoming. Low population smaller towns plenty of privacy if that’s what you like and I do. That all being said. I will only visit in the warmer months cause those winters nope not anymore. Those people are tough as it gets that live there and do whatever it takes to make a living especially the ranchers. Just to tough for me and especially now with all this metal holding me together. LoL it likes sunshine and warm/ hot weather. LoL 😂 some great looking houses and that one especially wow. Beautiful church and capital both. And they’re open to that’s nice.and on a lighter note I think you had her with the take I know you had me till you said take him out and I had to laugh. LoL 😂 good one Joe. Looking forward to Wyoming next time. Safe travels my friend… keep filming and I’ll keep watching.

The cathedral was wonderful with beautiful stained glass and stone work. In Helena people's homes are literally their Castle! The city was very nice but I thought the rotunda in their capitol building was a tad bit gaudy for me. However for Helena it is perfect as they do flaunt their wealth with their architecture. Overall a very good video about Helena and I need not go there now as I have visited it through the artwork of your camera. Thanks for making another Saturday morning enjoyable.
