  • @mikesham3204

    @mikesham3204

    28 күн бұрын

    The reality is that there was a constitutionally mandated deadline to elect the President and Speaker, nationally and provincially. An agreement was entered into in which the ANC got the President and Gauteng Premier and the IFP got the KZN Premier. The rest of the allocation of cabinet seats and other important posts were agreed by all parties in a signed agreement. The ANC chose not to honour the signed agreement because, according to the constitution, the President or Premier is the person who can "decide" who gets what. The ANC, flat out reneged on a signed agreement.

    Of course they won the election. Don't fall into the political jargon that they did not win. They did not win with an outright majority, but they still win the election and still has all the power. It was their choice and their choice alone to go into this "GNU". They are the only party that could make that choice. They had alternatives on the table and choose this one, but whatever the DA wants to ask or claim can only happen if the ANC agrees. The DA has no rights to stand on - the party with the most votes have that right.

We were in the main disciplined about this (though the reality was that we were leading the coalition). You can see this in the numerous speeches that the DA made. If you’re talking nationally, the DA got 21.8% of the votes. Although the DA is not a “White” party, it is perceived as such because most Whites vote DA. However, Whites only make up 7.3% of the population (and that includes those too young to vote). Obviously if 21.8% voted DA, they must have at least 15/% from other racial groups.

    One thing the DA has learned from this closer association with the ANC is that although it is in government with that fraternity it is not in the ANC and is therefore subject to deceit as exemplified right here at the start. But this is in adorable problem. People cannot fairly and reasonably expect miracles. The alternative to this weak and vulnerable alliance is 'too ghastly to contrmplate' and the juggling and tightrope walking required to avert that alternative alliance must be recognized by rational observers who are too quick to criticise from a position that takes little or no account of the formidable difficulties. The blame is not with the DA. It is with the media and ignorant voters and abstainers. The electorate is to blame. Another point is that if the DA were to fight too precipitously and hard on every retrograde racist policy of the ANC and miraculously succeed in overturning them all, the ANC will lose more votes in the next election which will go to abd strengthen the other rotten parties. It has to be said that the majority vote is black and against the elimination of race-based privileges.

    I think both the ANC and the DA have lost some voters over this coalition. However, If the DA show real improvement in the portfolios they’ve been given, they’ll gain more voters than they lost.

    I think that it way too soon to say who won or lost. All actions will carry repercussions.

    The DA reached their ceiling, they'll never be above 25% such a tragedy. After this GNU period, the DA won't be able to differentiate themselves from the ANC.

    I think that it will be easier for the DA to differentiate themselves because of the GNU. Voters know the difference between good and bad cabinet ministers. This is why the ANC lost its majority.

    In what way are Western Cape government hospitals offerring good care for people? Perhaps the standard in other provinces is so low that it makes the WC look good, but there is a long way to go to an efficents and trustworthy state hospital
