I’m convinced Mikey Day entered this sketch with the full intention of making Heidi break.

Her breaking character was what made the bit funny and go viral. Not only did she lose it, but she struggled regaining composure. I died laughing and it was the buzz online as everyone took a mundane SNL skit and LMAOed over it. This will go down as one of SNL's top skits just because of Heidi.

legitimately the most enjoyable skit in 15 years - all due to her genuine reaction
The beavis and butthead skit was one of the funniest things I have seen in a while!! Heidi losing her composure was icing on the cake.
When they break character it makes the skit soooo much better and funnier.
My theory is that part of the reason people love this so much is because Heidi is incredibly cute when she smiles big.

@@robwebnoid5763they have to fit so many sketches in their runtime, so the show is planned out to the SECOND. if things go off script/delay further sketches, then they might not have time to complete all the sketches before they’re off the air. if a sketch goes way overtime due to breaking character then the entire crew needs to adjust on the fly, change lines, change sets and costumes differently than discussed before. and its hard for every department to be in the loop while the show is running
That was 12x funnier because Heidi broke character - it gave Mikey Day two chances to look behind himself on either side which was all that much funnier - nicely played! I had so much fun watching the rest of this video - thanks!

It was the same when it was Hoda and Kathie Lee. I think part of what makes their show successful is they present it like it's just girlffiends talking. But when girlfriends get together, they tend to get excited and talk over each other! It can get very annoying lol. I'll add, though, it was hilarious seeing Heidi's face go blank when Jenna asked her about what she does to not break, and then says, "You know what **I** do?" It's like, Sweetie, we are not even in the same situation...

There's nothing strange about communal living. Rich people used to do it with boarding houses. The antiseptic vision of mid-20th century suburban America is expensive and unnatural unless you're wealthy and can afford to replace social networks with hired help.
She's the new generation cast. Part of that is Kenan Thompson who's an old pro and has been funny thru the years. He's steadfastly highly rated in his sketches. But to me the best times were in the past with many wonderful performances by previous cast members.
Heidi is amazing at not breaking character in some of the most silly sketches. They made her break on purpose. I loved it. 😂

Communal living- I need to share some of my roommate horror stories with Hoda- like when my roommate was caught stealing from my GF's wallet

i dunno, half of me thinks she laughed on purpose to make the skit funnier but it worked like a charm
i totally understand her reaction afterwards of feeling not professional and worrying about her job. that being said, you'd think looking back at viral sketches where people break, she'd see that fans actually love it. it makes people feel like they're /in/ on the actual scene, imo. honestly don't think this would have went viral if not for the break. same w/ the famous debbie downer sketch w/ lohan. same w/ gosling breaking in the alien abduction scenes.
