Recently I upgraded my Heewing T2 rc plane to VTOL. In this video you get to watch me take it for a test flight. It worked well....for the most part :p

    Agreed, I really want to transition mine to INAV and the information on how to do that is SERIOUSLY lacking. :(

    Very nice video. Comparing your VTOL video to yours and other non VTOL videos makes me think that the current is way much more ("almost" double ? ) cruising around .. What is your expirience ?

    The camera mount on the T2 doesn’t point down like it does on the T1? That’s kind of nice. My T1 is always climbing to the moon because I instinctively level based on the video perspective. I really need to figure out how to do the adjustment in INAV to compensate for that.

    That same wonky hover happened to me in my T-1 last weekend, at the same point of transition back to tri copter mode to land. I wonder if it’s a ardu version issue?

    hi, you made a cool video) I also recently received this plane and of course with VTOL, but I encountered a problem when trying to take off, it shakes a lot and can’t get off the ground, could you tell me what pid values you have for VTOL mode?

    What size motors and props are you using for 4s? What FC are you using, and is it on Ardupilot?

    I feel the same way about the vtol. I had fun getting it working but after that it's just kind of a gimmick for me cuz where I live there are plenty of places to fly

    I could see it being useful if you want to fly from a small clearing, for landing specifically. You can take off with these sorts of planes almost anywhere, but being able to come straight down instead of having to spike it into a hole in the trees would be convenient.

    At my place, vtol it's a very good idea, very a little space to take off, but , i don't have a experience for vtol, just a pain to think,

    Makes sense if you’re trying to fly from your backyard because it’s Tuesday and you can’t get to the field because of life but other than that it’s just a huge battery suck.

    Yup that's literally the same for me. I have plenty of space to fly normal fixed with so I really have no use for VTOL. Vertical take off is a fun gimmick but actually I'd rather save the battery life and launch normally lol

    YES..as you said : better landing manually.. better don't turn into the wind first in Q_RTL fl..and no long "final land descent" when do the last step manually.. Again ! wonderful Video ! best regards from Germany

    Climbing on throttle may mean your tilt servos aren’t totally flat in fixed wing mode. Had that issue on my T1 vtol.

    Transitioning to a hover with a tailwind is a huge nono.... That's why it was flipping around like that until it got pointed into the wind then it stabilized that's completely normal.

    Whoa, what do I need to change in my settings? Is that with iNav? You just send it up in air and it automatically stays in same position. I imagine it requires compass for that trick. Or can that be done w/o compass? Love your vlog. I have T1 VTOL.

    You need a compass to do position hold in VTOL mode ( but not in fixed wing mode). He stated in the video that he was using Ardupilot. I have some experience with Ardupilot on a T1, it worked, but overly complex in my mind. INAV now supports VTOL so I converted to that.

    ​@@chuckwain5591 Yes, you're correct. Compass is the requirement for that. I guess I'll have to move GPS+Compass away from the fuselage for reduced interference. Sometimes I do feel nervous creating a embossed area for GPS to insert into..

    How do you have the speed on the tape parts of the hud with out an airspeed sensor? I cant get that to show GPS speed in my hud.

    I'm not sure, but my best guess is the issue with the DVR occassionally freezing is due to firmware. I say that because I only started having this issue after updated to the latest walksnail firmware, it never happened before that

    I was just going to say the same thing it's doing flopping around because its got a tail wind you notice the second it pointed into the wind it stabilized.

    I'm really hoping that they come up with a overpowered kit that I can put on my 2.4 M Ranger it's made to be aVTOL❤😊

    Even with T1, same issue but yeah.. aircraft is heavy and only has 3 motors. Have you tried 6S in VTOL?

    I'm about to start mine with the 743wing. Just haven't decided if I'm going to use Adrupilot or Inav. I know my way around Inav a lot better, but the Vtol portion is really new!!

    It uses barometric pressure for altitude. Pressure changes on a hill top regularly from air currents. It went home best it could with it's perception of an oddly variable altitude. That's my theory! Who knows though.... Could be aliens.

    @@tubamanandy2 These hobbyist grade gps units definitely aren't the most accurate. But I have a feeling the biggest issue with automatic landing feature is most likely related to altitude sensing. Baro pressure is pretty variable. I'm surprised it works at all honestly.
