Protect yourself at all times means you have to be either on the attack or if you are receiving punches you need to be demonstrating that you are either not getting hit badly because of your dodging and weaving skills meaning no significant number of punches are landing cleanly enough to inflict any serious damage on you or that if you are getting caught by punches you are responding with punches of your own because you are stillable to think clearly and operate, so if the referee sees a fighter being constantly hit with out replying with punches of his/her own then he will step in to end the fight for the safety of the boxer getting battered, Flloyd mayweather Jr is a great example of this, in his first round with Connor McGreggor he hardly threw a punch for the entire round but he used incredible dodging and blocking skills , head movement and footwork so that the majority of connors attacks did little to no damage, and although flloyd hardly punched during that round it was clear to see that he was lucid and in full control of the fight and his surroundings.

The fear crept in and blinded him. Amazing. I wonder what his fear smelled like.

Until he tasted some actual power and then he got scared and said peace out, "I can't see, I can't see anything" yeah right, he was seeing that water bottle fine and he was looking right at whoever was talking to him. Garcia knew that was just the beginning of the end for him and quit. Fighters who just quit a fight shouldn't be paid for the fight, if he had a real injury then I have no problem with throwing in the towel but I don't believe anything was wrong with Garcia, he just didn't want anymore. I thought Garcia was doing a decent job Until that point, didn't expect him to win but I definitely didn't expect him to quit.
