HEAVY Rock Train Attacks Hill & Needs Cut Not Once But 3 Pieces! Listen To Locomotives Working Hard!
Ойын-сауық
One Of The Heaviest Trains Yet! Train Makes Run At Hill & Splits Into 3 Sections To Make The Steep Grade. Cincinnati Eastern Railroad Rock Train With Grain & Lumber Up Front Pulled By 2 Red Locomotives ( GP15-1 ). Listen to this classic American railroad fight gravity on a hill that Norfolk Southern fought and lost on. I remember Norfolk Southern grain trains struggling on this hill.
First we see the whole train in Mount Orab, Ohio crossing Eastwood Road westbound. This is the same train that I filmed on Friday going eastbound to the quarry empty. This time the whole train was loaded. The first 5 cars are covered hopper cars loaded with grain from Winchester Ag. The next 5 cars are gondola cars loaded with railroad ties from McCoy Lumber in Peebles, Ohio. The next 24 cars are gondola and hopper cars loaded with stone from Hanson quarry in Plum Run, Ohio.
Next we go to Williamsburg to watch the train attack the hill. The train was cut into half for the first trip. Grain and lumber are lighter than stone so the first section of the train made it easily. The locomotives returned light down the hill after setting the 17 cars off at Afton Yard.
The next section was too heavy and the train was stopped at Gay Street in Williamsburg to be cut in half again. We see the second section pass by with 9 cars. I moved to another location on the hill to see the locomotives return light again to the rest of the train.
The third section of the train was the remaining 8 cars of stone and they made it easily. Listen to the locomotives working on the hill. You can hear them after they pass and are out of sight. I think they really sound good. The SD40-2 was at Sardinia the last time that I checked. I don't know why they didn't use it also. I know the comments will be asking that.
The line side signals are old Norfolk & Western Railway color position lights. NS shut them off about 2005. I think that's right. I have a journal somewhere where I wrote all that stuff down but I don't know where it is.

The only reason you came out to do the trains that late today Chessie wanted to see a train. On the way there in your truck he gave you a kiss thanking you for taking him to see a train
Now that was a real epic video! Well worth the effort of turning out to watch that train and even better to get the video. Those locos look and sound great, so I hope it's on omen for the continued success of the Cincinnatti Eastern Railroad. So glad you caught it on film. I reckon Chessie will have had a good afternoon of trainspotting!

Another awesome CCE video. They needed one of the GE's as a third. Those 15's are kind of lite for that service. The need was there, and CCE got it done.

Great video Jawtooth! One of my favorite things about that short line other than the great engines and old signal's is the crossing lights with real bell's! Its refreshing to hear a real bell ringing instead of those modern electric ones. Thanks for sharing!

If they’d get a second hand AC4400CW they could just pull the whole thing up the hill in one shot.

that would be cool! The only thing is they have some track that they don't run six axle units on. They only run 4 axle units on the grain spur for example

@@JawTooth An older engine like as SD40-2 has rigid trucks, but many newer engines have self steering trucks that bend around curves. And they don’t necessarily have to be AC motor units. Every single EMD 70 series unit, except some SD70ACEs and some SD70M-2s have self steering trucks. There are ex CSX AC6000CWs that Progress Rail got and they probably love to unload them. Yes, they have self steering trucks.
This is railroading at its best, seeing and hearing locomotives hard at work to get their train upgrade, even if they have to break up the train to do it. Cool paint scheme on those GP15-1s, and bringing chessie along was a real treat, she really loves trains. Appreciate your devotion to bringing us such great videos, thanks JT.

So windy, but nice to explore the area with you.
I love the paint scheme on those engines. I love seeing this company serving customers, which had not CE assumed track rights, these companies would have to go to more expensive and slower methods of delivering their products. Plus CE uses Class 1 rejects on rail that, even though appears in good condition, probably would not meet Class 1 standards. Plus they operate without derailments, which would probably put CE out of business. Thanks for the video and thanks to CE for doing a job well done and providing us railfan action!

IMO running extra long, extra heavy trains so as to maximize profit is helping put the public in danger. NS doesn't have enough fault detectors IMO or enough inspection, testing and maintenance on the detectors they do have. Bottom line: derailment like E Palestine, OH. I am downwind in SWPA and lately my nose and sinuses and throat have been irritated. Is it from the wreck or a cold or both? IDK. I doubt NS will ever completely own up to their derailments. Glad Chessie likes keeping you company. Maybe Norfie will set NS straight? Does not seem like anyone will.

Old school railroading right there. It'd be even worse if they had to set retainers to get back down grade, and then hope you don't have a runaway. Liked it much!

Awesome train JT! Love it!
The Cincinnati Eastern RailRoad should consider buying another Engine. Instead of having just 2 powerful units the need to purchase just 1 more engine. Then they would not have to break up train to climb the hill. Jaw Tooth you might suggest that to them. Since this rock trains are increasing in size. It is one thing pulling gondola cars but now pulling Hopper cars with rock loads, too. And paint the engine in their colors, wow super nice. Hey, Jaw Tooth, thank for the awesome Short Line RailRoads videos, They a fantastic. Have a Blessed Friday.

Engineers used to measure how long their train was by counting those power poles. Dispatcher would ask how long their train was and they would say a mile and ten poles.

The Cincinnati Eastern GP15-1s were working hard to bring the loaded cars up Batavia Hill with the three cuts of loaded cars from the Hanson Quarry in Plum Run, Ohio and McCoy Lumber in Peebles, Ohio. Doubling the hill! A gon full of aggregate and an open hopper full of aggregate are two completely different animules. It's supposed to be one horse per ton computation ergo not enough horses to pull the hill. Been there done that with the SP in another world of railroading. Congrats on 227k subscribers!

Hi! Nice video Brian!
Probably a good thing you did some filming yesterday. Today it's pouring down rain, tomorrow a 40-degree temp drop with flurries. 😐 But that's SW Ohio for you during the winter.
Very cool vid loved it! I also like watching trains in Hannibal Missouri! Especially if you get one coming out of the tunnel onto the bridge crossing the Mississippi River! I railfan the Burlington Junction Rwy Quincy, I'll. I've seen them have 4 MP1500Ds plus a SW1500 at head end with a Sw1500 n SW1200 slug head up a steep grade from the Quincy yard up to the BNSF main line to the bridge crossing the Mississippi River into West Quincy main yard! Those engines are all pulling hard to make the grade! Really fun to watch!
They needed another 3 big horses added on those cars.😁
It "would be nice" to see some videos of their dropping off the pieces and putting them back together in the right order.

Great horn and engine noise along with the jointed rail. They must have gotten quite the deal on those mill gons. Hauling gravel like that is expensive and time-consuming. Those cars look much better hauling beams or prefab rail sections. Chessie appreciates being outdoors esp trackside. More fun then having that cat chase one. around
Great catches Son ... Like your copilot ... Ths ...
rails have a nice shine now
Those old girls are working hard .
Awesome video again jaw tooth.
BTW: putting the light cars close to the engine and the heavy cars at the far end is asking for trouble.

Loaded grain cars aren't light, and it's unlikely to make much of a difference on a train that short.
