Heavy Rain Watch Issued as Torrential Rains Wreak Havoc in South Korea
The state weather agency issued a heavy rain watch for Seoul, central, and southern parts of the country on Sunday, with authorities on high alert for potential additional damage from torrential rains. The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) forecasted up to 100 millimeters of rain for the Seoul metropolitan area and issued a heavy rain watch for Incheon since Saturday. The KMA expanded the advisory to six more areas in South Chungcheong and issued it for Cheorwon, Hwacheon in Gangwon Province, and Gunsan in North Jeolla Province.
Heavy rain advisories are triggered by expected precipitation of over 60 mm in three hours or 110 mm in 12 hours. The government raised the disaster readiness alert to level 2 on Saturday due to concerns about damage from heavy downpours. The country has been affected by torrential rains since early this month, leading to floods, landslides, and 47 fatalities, with three still missing.

Unfortunately this is the second year in a row I've seen and heard hurricane season doing a number on SK. I hope everyone can remain safe and prepare for the next time the season comes around.

They are not hurricanes, but monsoons. I have been in Korea for almost a decade. This happens every year.

@@beot-kkot I called it hurricane season only because that's happening where I'm from. I guess that means it's monsoon season for Korea this time of year.😅 Man, I hear the season's really taking a toll with some casualties already found. I hope the people will be okay.

@@MrTobi013 It’s ok, I figured. They’re two different phenomena, as you know. Typhoons, on the other hand, are the same as hurricanes. Sometimes we are hit by those. 🌀 I live in the Seoul Metropolitan area, but my city is ok so far. Thank you for your kind words. Be safe out there. 😊
