Heavily modified Nintendo 64. Switchless, remote, backlit, RGB N64 mod.

Ойындар

My N64.
Hope you like it.
PLEASE READ:
FAQ:
This is the only one I will make :-)
Sorry, but I didn't put this video here to entice people to buy or commission me to make them an N64 like this. I just thought I'd share what I have made.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE?:
4 months of pretty much all of my free time.
That sounds like a long time, but there was a lot of trial and error involved as most of the mods in here have not been done before (at least, not to my knowledge).
I didn't copy anyone for this mod. The only thing that can probably be considered "mainstream" (from a modder's perspective) is the RGB mod. This is well documented on the internet.
WHY DIDN'T YOU BUILD THE TRANSMITTER INTO THE CONTROLLER?:
Didn't want to :-) Plain and simple.
I didn't want the system to be reliant on a single controller - and I didn't want to mod a controller anyway because by the time I'd finished the actual console, I was sick to death of the whole project ;-)
WHY DIDN'T YOU MAKE THE CONTROLLERS WIRELESS?:
1) I like the look of the asymmetrical single controller port.
2) You have to sacrifice the Controller Pak slot. Too many games use the Controller Pak to save. So I'm not doing this.
WILL YOU TAKE IT APART AGAIN AND SHOW ME HOW YOU DID IT?:
Nope :-)
I don't want to run a modding helpline for the rest of my life. Sorry.
Thanks for watching.

@@CustosKeeper There really isn't much left to top. He pretty much covered every mod you'd want to make to an n64. The only think I would change would probably be to get rid of the key fob and install it inside the primary controller. You can even pull power from the controller, so it wouldn't need a battery. It would be some extra work, but I think having the power and reset in the controller also helps prevent losing the dang thing.

CPS2 Really just stupid on my part, lol. I'm much better with software. I should have done some research to figure out what I was doing. I messed around with it because it would overheat and freeze very quickly and often with that thing in. It all worked out in the end because I bought another N64 cheap off a friend that didn't use his anymore (since I broke it around 2007). Sorry for rambling. Hopefully anyone who reads this won't repeat my mistake. Again, great job on the mod and keep up the good work!

This is literally the craziest shit I've seen, I mean you like really killed it, and straight up increased the value of the console in one go. You even turned it into a designer product that feels fresh and sleek but doesn't sway from the original style of the product so it maintains nostalgic feeling while bringing in a new air of freshness. I also like the advert that you did to specifically state you own all of those games. Even if what you said is not true the extra effort that you put in to promote that behaviour is very admirable. Get a better camera and lighting, and show me more of your work. I'm assuming you do projects like this all of the time? Considering how extra well this was done.... Great Video. Genius Mod. Cant wait for more.

Hello, folks! Just so you know; I have now modded the stock controller you see in this vid. A pretty hefty LED mod. Extreme 10 LED Nintendo 64 controller mod. Purple N64 controller pad mod.

Completely forgot about this mod. Watched it years ago and the algorithm finally brought it back to my life. Now to resist the urge to destroy a handful of n64’s attempting something half as interesting as this one.

this N64 mod still holds up to this day, the only thing people would want now is an HDMI port and/or RGB

A properly done RGB mod and a good low-latency hdmi adapter are all you need (or you could also use component cables and a display which is able to properly display the 240p and 480i signals with low latency, such as a good late generation CRT with component inputs the back. SCART cables (which can plug into the N64's proprietary "multi-out" port will also be about as good as a component cable (and will also only work if your system is RGB modded).

hey man what kind of classes did you take to know so much about electronic hardware and painting?

  • @CPS2

    @CPS2

    10 жыл бұрын

No specific classes or anything. I've just been messing about with electronics for 20 years :-) I used to make RC model cars and race them when I was a kid. That's probably where I got the paint skillz from ;-) This is like the 6th console mod I've done (though the first I've put on youtube) so I've had practice... though this was the most technical mod I've ever done.
