Way I see it, it's a texture to be used in composition. These bands want to tune like this for some sections/songs and all power to them for doing so. Also nobody beats Josh Travis for low tuning anyway, so until we surpass him there's no such thing as too low.

@@kariasaptra Often the touring guitarists will use a 7 or 8 string just to increase the range of keys they can play in with the different songs without changing guitars. But example tunings are Drop-C for Megitsune, Drop-B for Karate, Drop-A for Doki Doki Morning, normal Drop-C# for Song 4, etc.

I know After the Burial has more famous songs but I’m glad you threw “Mire” in there. Truly underrated riff from them (and also the first song of theirs I ever heard, even before A Wolf Amongst Ravens)

No. I think the 8 string is enough. Any lower than that is just unnesecary IMO and if you wanted to go lower, just tune down only the low string.
