Friendly reminder that this is still in the Free Trial. Regarding the story: Plenty of FF14 players argue that the game's story is one of, it not the best one ever made for a video game (hell, even in general media). For new players, 3.0 and 3.3 is the point where they start to go "wait, maybe they weren't exaggarating". Playing through the MSQ for the first time is honestly once-in-a-lifetime experience, so make sure to treasure every moment of it.

Hraesvalgar is really interesting. He's very intelligent and perceptive. However you thought talking to him was going to go he has other plans. See Ysayle getting her life's work mercilessly shredded in minutes. Aymeric gets knocked off balance immediately because Hraes sees right through him. It takes Alphi's debate class performance to give him time to recover, and play the card only Aymeric can play- he's been where Hraes is, and he chose against his family, for the greater good. Dragon Dad just sealed the deal at that point. Great scene, especially when you realise how much set-up went into making it.

100%! I mention this to people a lot. ARR was testing the FF MMO waters by rebooting Classic, HW focused a rich story journey to make 14 its own solid mainline entry, StB brings in some much welcomed mechanic and Gameplay reworks, ShB refines these lessons into a really solid package, and EW brings these multi-year tales to a satisfying conclusion. What do we learn about Zenos in the SB MSQ? He's strong and wants to fight. Conversely, we understand Emet's motivations, we sympathize with him, we might even see ourselves making the same choices in his shoes. What's to relate to Zenos in the SB MSQ? He's a psychopath who feels nothing other than hunting. He only gets interesting post sb-msq. In the SB MSQ, the subvillians, Yotsuyu and Fordola are better done.

Yes, FFXIV will fulfill all your thirsty boyfriend dreams, why do you ask? Also, it's a bit safer to say this now that you've experienced HW patch content to know how they handle the patches from now on. When people say Stormblood is weak, this does not extend to the patch content. Stormblood patch content is usually considered to be incredibly strong and it's probably worth sitting through Stormblood even if it's not your cup of tea for the patch content later. I’m in the early stage of Stormblood myself. I’m a lvl 66 Smn, Sch and Whm but I’ve really been enjoying it. Mind you I enjoyed ARR for the most part. My only gripe is about the order of certain events and quests happened. So my problem is when Livia rocks into the Waking Sands and things… happen and we end up at that church in Thanalan, Alphinaud pretty much decides to ignore the Garlean problem and declares that Garuda is the priority and I really strongly disagree with that. I really think that the quests should be rearranged so that we immediately start to work on the Garlean problem first and resolve that first. Only then should Garuda become the priority. I mean it just doesn’t feel right that we’re leaving them as “guests” of the Garleans while we spend days, weeks or months wandering all over Coerthas and then travelling all over Eorzea before we actually fight Garuda. Or alternatively we spend that time and effort going after Garuda first. Then once we’ve fought her and seen the events right after, but it’s then that Livia and her troops cause the issue same way as what happened after defeating Titan instead it’s Garuda. Then of course Livia shows up and things happen. So instead of abandoning them for weeks, the planning and preparation then gets underway, closely followed by the raid on the Garlean fortification. Admittedly I solved that problem by personal headcanon which rearranges the order of quests by my latter option. But apart from that quibble I enjoyed ARR and the intermission between Praetorium and entering Ishgard. So yeah with me enjoying ARR and what I’ve done so far of Stormblood I’m probably easily entertained. Though I admit that Heavensward was a magnificent story, one of the best I’ve ever seen in a game let alone Heavensward. Still I’m having plenty of fun in Stormblood- or at least what I’ve done so far. I’m at the point where my WoL met Zenos for the first time. I didn’t quite see that twist coming. My WoL is in Limsa Lominsa now, preparing for her upcoming voyage and I look forward to seeing what comes next.

That opening was perfect. For Heavansward through Shadowbringers most people consider x.0-x.3 the story of that expansion and the x.4-x.55 patches are considered the pre-next expansion event. So you most players would consider you to be done with Heavansward content and into pre-Stormblood content.

Without spoiling anything: Base Stormblood is more of a journey to learn more about the lands, races, tribes, mythos and their history on how they faired for 20 years since their homeland was invaded. it may lack in story on the players character development but it opens up more culture to the world while also setting up for more brilliant vistas and locations that will catch your eye. the patch story that come after are even more spectacular as well as the raids and the optional primals.

If you liked learning the mechanics as you go, I recommend trying The Minstrel's Ballad: Thordan's Reign. At the time of its release it was praised by some as the best designed fight in an MMO from how the fight progressed. My static and I were super casual so it took us weeks (when it was current content) but the fight progresses so brilliantly that you get a sense of accomplishment just by progressing.

Great video guys, as a sprout who just finished Shadowbringers, it’s fun to come back and revisit Heavensward plot points. You mentioned Stormblood, and the reputation it has among FF14 players as being “good, but not as good as the other expansions.” My two cents is that, as much as I love the FF14 community, I find that there are things that get repeated in the community so often that they become a bit exaggerated. Stormblood seems to be a victim of this. I’m in the minority here, but I actually think Stormblood is on par with Heavensward, and I actually enjoyed it more than Shadowbringers (which I’m finding is sort of heresy to say in the FF14 community :D). My main point is, try not to let community opinion affect how you view the expansions. I honestly think underhype led me to enjoy SB more and overhype led me to enjoy ShB less. I think the reality is that all the expansions are great, and honestly much closer together in quality than people sometimes suggest.

18:30 This! This right here, is why people insist that you should stick with ARR even if it's a little boring. Lately there's been some discussions with some streamers telling people to just skip ARR and go directly to Heavensward, and this part right here is why you shouldn't. It really rewards you for sticking with it, you gain a sense of familiarity with the characters and with the world that you wouldn't just have if you went directly for the "good expansion" without experiencing the base story first.

Love the videos as usual, you guys are great. I heard you debate a bit on the stream whether it's better to do "extra" content (e.g. Alexander, Hildebrand) now, or come back to it after catching up to current. I think you win either way but I might recommend you try to slot that stuff in here and there to help keep some variety. If you try to do all of Hildebrand from all the expansions at one time, or raid after raid with no msq in between, it might be a lot. I definitely get the drive to want to catch up with the msq too, though. I hope you enjoy regardless and thanks for sharing your content!

Haha I've never heard of Akh Morn being referenced as "Slammy laserattack from space", that's a great name xD It's actually a dragon breath attack as you can see if you look carefully at the animation (it shoots out of his mouth). If translated from Dragonspeak to English (yes, there is an actual albeit incomplete dictionary for Dragonspeak on the official forums, from one of the developers who invented said language), Akh Morn translates to something like "Circle of death", which is a pretty fitting name. Bahamut in coils also uses Morn Afah which basically translates to "Eternal death" (or "Death eternal if reading the words in order), while Nidhoggs Tankbuster, Ala Morn, can be translated as "Extinction" (Alamor[n]. Well or as "Death to all" (actually Ala Mor[n]) or even "Allagan Death" or "Death to Allag" (also actually Ala Mor[n]), which would be understandable, but that being a tankbuster I personally prefer Extinction. The person creating that language actually stated that they wanted to create a language that is impossible to truly understand for humans, since the dragons live a really long time and their language has evolved to a point where they can understand, what exactly they are saying, while humans have to interpret a lot, since they got rid of a lot of grammatical rules and devices that we humans use, like prepositions or possessive pronouns and all that. I love those details they put into their world building.

29:21 Throwing the Eyes into the abyss was Estinien's original plan when he grabbed both of them in Azys Lla at the end of Heavensward in the Japanese version (wasn't translated into English, though), so it wasn't completely out of the blue. As to how trustworthy that plan is, you'll see!

Also if you haven't been pointed in this direction I would suggest doing all of the optional content as well before moving to the next expansion. Each expansion has an Alliance Raid Series (3, 24 man raids), a Normal Raid Series (12 floors of 8 man content), and a Trials Series (3, 8 man bosses). Each one is an additional storyline that isn't usually tied into the main story, but add to the world as a whole. In Heavensward you have The Sky Pirates Alliance Raid (The Pillars (X:14.1, Y:10.7)), Alexander Normal Raid (Idyllshire (X:7, Y:6)), and The Warring Triad Trials (The Pillars (X:11.7, Y:11.5)).

Nice job as always, guys. A suggestion, and it's not a spoiler since you already passed by it. Go back to your talk with Minfilia (The Word) where she revealed the "truth" of the star. Look for this reference "10 and 3". It will explain some of the questions you presented in this video (one of which is that you didn't understand what they meant by the "Source"). Keep in mind that the Lore bombs that occur in 3.2 and going forward were tweaked by the current main scenario writer (Ishikawa) so they aren't throwaways.

I see a certain pattern now with HW, StB and ShB: the expansion storyline has an "ending with credits" which is a reasonable point in the story, the first few patches pick up some loose threads left over from the main expansion and bring them to conclusion (expect plot twists), while slowly starting the new story that leads you into the next expansion. It's a nice tactic that leads you to be engaged for the next expansion (so that you purchase it).

Garrett made a remark at the end about FF 14 making it personal - that really resonates with my experience in dungeons (most notably in the Praetorium). In the cutscenes *you* the player are in the center you aren't looking at the hero or leader getting the credits. Also cutscenes in general - you the player are in there with your (hopefully) cool outfit. It may seem shallow, but isn't it like a book with a first-person point of view?
