Video should never be removed. It holds profound educational value to the fields of Sociology, Psychology, Psychiatry and Theology. Absolutely terrifying. The members appear clinically brainwashed and robotic. Condolences to the families and survivors of Cult trauma. Tragic and senseless loss of life.

When Lvvody, at 13:45, with her voice quavering, shows real human emotion, obviously contemplating her death, she is "pulled back into line" by the collective derisive laughter of the group, which denies both her humanity and dignity. Icy, eerie and terrifying!

14:45. The woman explains that the leader "pushed out" people who showed dissent, and that's why is okay because all the people who stayed didn't show dissent so obviously its all okay she says. No recognition that what she is describing is "splitting behavior" and meant to isolated a victim from alternative opinions and voices who may influence them away from the one who is manipulating them.

its really unnerving to watch these goodbye messages knowing that these were the last moments of them ever being seen alive. this is really hard to watch, my heart goes out for the victims and their families. ive learned so much about this cult recently, and it's shocking how fragile the human psyche is, and how vulnerable these people were to being brainwashed by Applewhite, and Nettles when she was alive.

The last time they were seen alive was at a diner. They were all in uniform and had a uniform last meal of sweet tea, cheesecake and a Marie Calender pot pie. The server who attended their tables was reported as being 'highly disturbed by the event'. What I find highly disturbing is the scripture connection here. "I am the way and the light" at the time of annihilation for a Heaven's Gate member and Jonestowns' end days quote from John 15: 13 "Greater love hath man than this, that a man should lay down his life for his friends." Kinda fucked that Christianity could be perverted by such monsters as Jim Jones and Marshall Applewhite.

The paradox of this is so wild. I don't even know if that's a strong enough word for what's happening here, but the LITERAL CONTRAST of these alive and well, bubbly and personable, witty and even funny people.. with oodles of potential.. against the beautiful background of the video- nature being naturally awesome, the birds chirping, and the whole Earth just sitting behind them to give them everything it has to offer. I remember playing pretend, and that feeling that you really do get from being immersed in an entire world of your own imagination and creation is unforgettable. Fantasy can be intoxicating. Coming out of that "trance" and remembering that the box was just a box and not a spaceship left a feeling of disappointment, maybe even emptiness. The real world can certainly seem boring in comparison. I would imagine this is similar in a way, at least on a very basic level. It's beyond unfortunate that the larger-than-life figures that scooped them up and carried them away weren't ones who would use their combined influence to show them all the things we can do outside of the box. Right here, right now, in this life here on Earth.

"Groupthink" is what forced them to look for a cult in the first place. These people felt like outcasts and odd and out of place because their society made them feel that way. It was our weird obsession with "normal" and "right" that forced them into the arms of a sociopath. Their cult wasn't the death nail. We were. We cringe at the unusual and different.

This was manipulative people taking advantage of mentally unsound people, clearly culling from people with severe but nonviolent antisocial disorders. 'We' are not the villains here, guy. The group thought 'don't join crazy cults and commit suicide' and they didn't listen to that sound advice. Because either they didn't have a support network of family and friends to prevent them from making a bad decision or they were alienated against those people. BY people who use the exact language you're using. By saying that it's 'society that's rejecting you because it's so cruel'. Seriously re-fucking think what you wrote there.

If your friends don't show you love then you need to move on! There are plenty more fish in the sea. The motivation & intent of these people was / is as pure as I have ever seen. They are as emotional as they are for a good reason - they truly believed in what they had chosen for themselves, and they were mere days from saying goodbye to the corrupt politics, religions, business & banking systems of this global society. I absolutely understand why they are as emotional as they are in this video. This is not a Jim Jones scenario. Far from it. It takes a great deal of courage to make a decision like this. More courage than most people anywhere have. While I don't agree with everything they voiced, which doesn't really matter whatsoever because this was not my decision, I absolutely appreciate how strongly they stood with their personal convictions, principals & ethics, without feeling they had to excuse or justify their personal decision to anyone. They don't owe anyone an explanation regarding their choice to end their physical lives. Their bodies, their souls, their lives. What really boggles my mind is that so many people will excuse, justify & even laud wars, executing human beings under 'the law' (no matter what the reason), imprisoning people for life because we don't agree with what they have done, torturing others under the guise of 'national security', mass government surveillance around the globe, the abuse of their neighbours' freedoms due to their skin color / religion / social status, citizens in their own countries remaining homeless / hungry / desperate for the simplest of rights everyone is entitled to (shelter, food & being treated humanely, with love & compassion), corrupt politicians continuing to rule, churches abusing their 'non-profit' status for their own monetary gain, Religious leaders abusing children, banks stealing people's homes from their friends & families, and the list goes on....all these things seem to be excusable in today's society, around the world.....but someone making the decision to end their own life because of their personal convictions, simply because you don't agree with the person's convictions? Take a look at yourselves, pitying these people who took hold of their personal power. You all should in reality be pitying yourselves. We are surrounded by cults of all types, and you all participate in them daily, but people are far too indoctrinated to even fathom that they contribute to & perpetuate cults of all types in their everyday lives. Political cults of every flavour which people 'vote' for, social media cults which people are addicted to, military cults which slaughter others around the world in the name of 'democracy' (yet another cult), 'educational' cults which you allow to indoctrinate your children, religious cults we are surrounded with namely Catholicism, Christianity, etc etc which you allow to further indoctrinate & abuse your children - 'acceptable' only because the majority agree with them?? How does this make them any less cults? Your religious leaders control your lives for god's sake. Your politicians, governments, police, 'legal' systems control your lives. Your monetary system controls your lives. Your 'justice' system which is anything but 'just' controls your lives. Even your credit card issuers control your lives! Yet you believe you're making your own decisions, that you're 'free', that you all are NOT cult members??? Who are the real cult members? The minority who dare to step outside of a sick global society & explore their lives freely? And end their lives as they see fit? Or those who are firmly entrenched in this sick global society, killing themselves working for car payments, 'taxes', mortgages, religious leaders, credit card debt, parking tickets, 'student loans'.... Who are the real cult victims? Take a good look at yourselves & your lives.

Courageous I think NOT these people were followers thru & thru. You could even see them taking cues from the people behind the camera. I AGREE with you about society, government & things of that nature but to think these people were courageous when you learn the rules they had to follow while in Heavens Gate. These people were just searching for connections, info, somebody to take them in and tell them what to do and that everything is gonna be alright is more of what I got. I dont think anybody should idolize these people or put their actions on a pedestal in any way. What I find courageous is a person who is smart enough to understand what is truly going on and deciding they are not gonna participate and FOLLOW but do then their own thing .

Well thanks for this piece of faux profundity. Why don’t you take a look at YOURSELF and YOUR life? If you really think that participating in society, the type of society (I assume that you, like these people, are living in and referring to the US or another open, democratic society), it’s worth mentioning, that has made people freer and pulled more people out of poverty than any other system in human history, necessarily involves a surrender of one’s mental faculties and integrity greater than that which these pitiful people engaged in, then you are intellectually lazy and not very bright. That is ridiculous. Yes, plenty of aspects of modern life and society do encourage participating individuals to decline to think critically and to immerse themselves in addictive, numbing, and brainwashing activities. But to make that observation in a condemnatory way while giving credit to these lost people for some intellectual and ethical strength and fortitude, as if they freed themselves, when what they did was follow some basic whack job into the abyss, is simply ridiculous. I’ll choose to dismiss this as an attempt to be edgy, because I don’t think that you’ve really thought this through.

  • @jessebarnes1963

And half of the things that you named as things that people mindlessly participate in in their lives in society are not necessarily things that result from the corrupt wielding power over blind masses. For instance, executing people under the law, “no matter the reason,” or imprisoning some people for life is not self-evidently wicked, and some wars are justified. And not all of the problems that you listed are entirely or even primarily the result of corruption. Many of these things are problems that human beings haven’t figured out adequate solutions for. The world is extremely complicated, and the problems that you seem to think must have simple solutions that would be easy to implement if only corrupt leaders would get out of the way and dulled masses would just wake up are actually not so simple. Yes, corruption is a serious problem that prevents us from creating a better world. Corruption is a universal tendency that exists in every human system. It’s also not the sole explanation for every aspect of every unsolved problem that humans face. You oversimplify.

The biggest fallacy here, or one of the largest delusions, is that these people seem to think that "freewill" is the automatic rebuttal to anyone who suggests that they are being dangerously indoctrinated into a death cult. Sure, you may have "free will to come and go", "no one's forcing you", "you've always been free to believe or not to believe", etc., but that really has no bearing here or there. Your "freewill" doesn't mean a damn thing when you've already been captured by the spell of indoctrination. Once that happens, it's like a parasite, it feeds on your thoughts and your decision making, completely altering the thoughts you may have had previously, completely altering the decisions you may have made previously, which then biases your "freewill", and essentially ensures that regardless of what someone says to you, or puts in front of you, your mind is already made up, already under the control of some external master manipulator who has taken your "freewill" and turned it on its head. A leader of a cult doesn't need to physically force you to do something, or physically control you in any other way, they use a psychological method of control, of coercion, of manipulation and indoctrination, and those shackles are just as powerful as any chain. Every single one of these people felt that by saying they weren't being forced, that they must be volunteering for it, choosing it themselves, so don't worry or be upset, they're completely happy, that everyone would just be like "Oh, well okay then, no one physically forced them to do it, they must be of completely sound mind". Well, I already went over the fact that they certainly weren't choosing this completely independently, but I also didn't see a whole lot of genuine happiness or bliss either. In fact, most were pretty deadpan the entire time, and it's not hard to understand why. It's because their subconscious is screaming at them, it's doing everything it can to override the conscious brain of these people, hoping it can snap them out of it before it's too late. We ALL have that inner-voice, that disembodied person inside of us that speaks to us and we speak to it, and even though these people are SEVERELY psychologically wounded, their subconscious, their inner-voice, their intuition, is in overdrive, trying its damnedest to rise to the surface, and even though they all do a great job of fronting like they're fine, I can see the inner-battle happening inside each and every one of these people, and it's heartbreaking. Anyway, I just had to point out their flawed rationalization about "freewill", because you don't need to be physically shackled to have surrendered your freewill to someone else, and this didn't occur to any of them....

@@GardenerEarthGuy - No argument from me. Not much different from A LOT of societal indoctrination. But you're certainly right there, the military might be one of the oldest abusers of human psychology that our various civilizations have ever known. Especially the Marine Corps!! They don't even try to hide it, and, they are definitely the branch that's most into indoctrination, and to a pretty scary degree!! However, I don't know how you personally feel, but I'm not saying any of this to put down our various men and women who go and pursue that path with their hearts in the right place. Just like I'm not putting these people down for their psychological predicament. Just like in most areas of life, I think most people who join the military are good people, with good intentions, only looking for a way to make a living while maybe also making a difference, not really realizing what they're getting themselves into, what it's really like, and the absurdity of a lot of it. Anyway, yes, the military is certainly very proficient at indoctrinating human beings, that's for damn sure.

The joyful ness is very unreal as if of course they were trained to feel joyful about this at all times. Many of them may have suffered from sexual identities or severe depression so they depended on this cult to make them feel normal. You can tell many of them can tell this isn’t the most sensible thing to do but they’ve come this far and feel pressured to follow thru with it. It still doesn’t make since to me how people got so vulnerable towards a psyche patient from a mental hospital who also had a insane nurse who created this whole theories and ideology of an out worldly beings and never questioned the leaders past which is why they act the way that they do.
