Heatwave Rocks Garden State Tortoise

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

A lot of people don't realize just how hot New Jersey gets. Here in the southern, coastal portion of the state, temperatures in the mid to high 90s are more common place for our summers than snow is in the winter. Sure, our winters get cold but the truth is that summers are very hot and usually very, very humid. The challenge is that we also get droughts and this time around it's gotten rough. There's been little rain all year and our enclosures are suffering from it. We're losing plants and water is being evaporated out of the ponds very quickly. Our reptiles naturally know how to deal with unfavorable conditions being the ancient survivors they are but sometimes we have to step in. We work hard to keep the turtles, tortoises and other reptiles of Garden State Tortoise healthy and happy and we also work hard to maintain their enclosures. See how we deal with extended heat waves and drought conditions in this fun video. It's all a part of proper, reptile husbandry as a whole. Learn some interesting tortoise behaviors too. Radiated, Galapagos, Aldabra and pancake tortoises join us in this video along with other species as well.

Yes it’s sad and a bit scary. We are in water restrictions. No watering your lawns or gardens except twice a week. So about thirty minutes to an hour of watering per week. That’s just not enough. And forget about washing your vehicle or things like that. I worry about all the wildlife. I leave out water for the animals. I have eight bowls of water around my property for all the wildlife. The birds certainly seem to appreciate it. And some of our vacation sites/lakes are so low. Lake Powell looks awful. It’s scary to me. This drought has gone on for several years now. I just keep thinking it has to come to an end at some point. And idk if you have folks in NM like here but, there are some who water in the middle of the day!! When half of it is being evaporated!! Crazy. I just hope we have a wet winter. ❤️💜💚

I’m in West Monroe myself. Saw a lot of turtles in the late spring but now with the lack of rain here, I swear I’m not seeing as many. And I’m so sick of the high temps. Our grass is brown I swear. I think I’m to the point of welcoming a tropical depression right now. No crazy wind and major flooding, just a nice rain. It is pretty bad when I want that to end this no rain. We have had some summer evening storms come up but even those are sparse right now

Guys! Fantastic video at a point when we needed it all. Its been hitting blazing point around the world. However, I have a question. Im keeping all of my reptiles indoors and during the summer here in Japan, its always around 29-36 degrees even indoors. So I usually keep the UVB on throughout the day but I have my basking/heated light on for 6.45-7.15am and its turned off for the rest of the day. Someone advised me not to turn the basking light off even if its closer to 40 degrees celsius. Im pretty much im right. What do you think?
