Hi I’m josslene wilder, Keith’s granddaughter. I watch this all the time and it was great to see what he was like when he sung at a young age. Thank you for posting this although I am young I still love heatwaves music and this is my favorite song they have to this day💗💗

Your grandfather and his band made a lot of people happy then and still do to this day with their wonderful music. I was 11 years old in 1978 when this song came out and remember the first time I heard it and where i was. Great songs are a time machine and this one always takes me back to my youth and first love. May you be blessed as your grandfather was and how many millions he blessed with their timeless songs like this! All the best to you, young lady

Johnnie's accident was tragic, but the remainder of his life was NOT A TRAGEDY. He wouldn't allow it to be. He never lost that beautiful voice; he continued to sing, write and record - including for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; he taught and guided young people; he produced music in the studio for other people; he never lost that megawatt smile and positive outlook; and he encouraged others that they too could make it after a similar setback, including Teddy Pendergrass who turned to Johnnie at his lowest moment - and they became good friends. Johnnie lived an additional 27 years after his injury and was a BLESSING to many. He literally ran his race and WON!

July 2024 - No words can express the pure love I have for this group. I was in middle school when this song came out and when I fell in love with Heatwave. To this day, this song still resonates the same. To assist in keeping me sane in the world we live in today, I go back to a time when music soothed the soul, ignited happiness and just made everything better in my life.
Main man (Johnnie Wilder Jr) sang the vinyl completely off this song. Perfect in every way...perfect tone, perfect pitch, perfect delivery. Just absolutely kilt it. At this stage he had fully matured as a artist into the song. He went all natural and raw on this song; no frills, no glitter, no processed hair...just pure talent and sang the hell out of it. Love, Love, Love this performance. Two thumbs up.

Johnnie Wilder's story is an inspiration. And this is how a band sings live. Perfection!
Rod Temperton was the keyboardist and main songwriter for Heatwave, writing songs including "Star of a Story", "Always and Forever", "Boogie Nights", and "The Groove Line". After he was recruited by record producer Quincy Jones, he wrote several successful singles for Michael Jackson, including "Thriller", "Off the Wall", and "Rock with You". He also wrote songs for George Benson, including "Give Me the Night" and "Love X Love", along with Patti Austin and James Ingram's United States number-one single "Baby, Come to Me", among many others. Temperton wrote the soundtrack for the 1986 film Running Scared and won a Grammy Award in 1990 for his work on Birdland, from Quincy Jones's album Back on the Block.

I never tire of this song!
I just love how easy Johnnie Wilder Jr. makes singing this song looks. I remember my amateur friends straining like hell to sing this!!! What fools they must feel like after seeing this performance.

We used to use the hairbrush as a mic... LOL.. Growing up with these songs of Magic was the greatest period of listening, wishing I were one of the Supremes! Great memories & this song is everything ❤

I saw him, them(75?), ranked him best showman ever !. Aqua Lounge Philly. Small venue 52nd st. Stage was small close contact, he turned it. So sad about accident. Rod Temperton continued writing great songs. 2 of the best to EVER do it.
Rare to see this kind of voice now. No auto tune back then.😉
Heatwave.....Johnnie ABSOLUTELY great music they were an awesome band Johnnie had a great voice.
When I think of 1977 it sounds like this right here!! Rest in peace Keith Wilder Johnny Wilder and Rod Temperton ❤️❤️❤️ always forever

i can never get this performance out of my head
Johnnie Wilder Jr is a gift to the world. Phenomenal singer, phenomenal group! One of my All Time Favorites! Thank you for the incredible musical legacy
Johnnie Wilder, the lead vocalist was such a dynamic and awesome singer! Hearing him live shows how incredible his voice truly was. So tragic that he had a paralyzing accident at the height of his career. I truly believe if he had never been in that accident, the group Heatwave would have soared to the top and been a Hall of Fame band with millions of records sold. RIP Johnnie❤
The definitive Heatwave lineup. Perfect pitch singer, world class songwriter. Exquisite support players. Tight as.
