As promised, here is the summary of my thoughts:
PROS:
♦ Very easy to sharpen. Holds an extremely fine point.
♦ Nice range of colours. In particular a good set of greys, yellows and oranges, and a LOT of varied greens.
♦ Erase well; very little visible trace left.
♦ Sturdy, good quality tin. Pencils feel securely held in place.
♦ Large number of pencils for the (sale) price of £28.99.
CONS:
♦ Most colours are not very strong and took some pressure to apply.
♦ Because of this, there is a tendency to scratch through underlying sealant layers.
♦ Most colours are not highly rated on their lightfastness scale--but then again this is a feature of watercolour pencils generally.
♦ If they are ever not on sale, the full price is just as high as those of other better-quality pencils.
POTENTIAL PRO OR CON depending on your opinion:
♦ Orders seem to be fulfilled by Amazon.
LIGHTFASTNESS:
There is no information readily available on the packaging that I could see about the lightfastness scale used on these pencils. I was told that the scale is such that:
+ = Excellent
++ = Very Good
+++ = Good
In this set, 11 had the rating +, 19 had ++, and the majority (41) had +++. One pencil had ++++.
The colours which the ratings correspond to make sense in terms of pigment: the +-rated colours are all neutral (greys and earth-tones), most of the ++s are blues or greens, and the ++++ is Fuschia, a pinkish-purple.
Before asking about the ratings I had seen a blog post from thefrugalcrafter (thefrugalcrafter.wordpress.co...) where she had been told the system was the opposite way round: +++ being the highest and + the lowest permanence, which is strange.
It would be nice if the information was available and consistent. However, watercolour pencils are not typically the most lightfast medium in general.

    This doll is available at tamakyu.shop/heather! Check the description for all relevant info about Arteza and these pencils. I still have some other supplies to test out! What shall I paint with them? Let me know if you have any requests or suggestions! (Maybe an illustration of one of my previous dolls?)

    Sorry for the delay! To draw, I always use them dry. Sometimes I use a wet brush to spread the colour or make corrections.

    I am a pencil colourist..lol I have tried numerous pencils and in the end I always come back to my favourite Fabre Castels as I can do so much more with these and I have their watercolour pencils too which are great as well..I also have other big brands but always go back to my favourites..I think we get so used to what we use that new stuff is hard to live up to it ..but if your like me I like to sit down and get results that I want first time not over and over ..good review..the eyes still have a lot of dept ,you are very good with doing that with your eyes ..it makes your dolls come to life 😀

    Thank you, I appreciate you saying so! Yeah, they’re not terrible pencils, but they don’t fit with how I work and the other supplies I use, unfortunately. Oh well!

    I'm glad you like them! I actually quite like the "wateriness" of them, even though it's not how I normally draw for dolls. :0

    I really like the colors you chose for this repaint. I see what you mean about the irises. Her face is not as sharp as your usual faceups. It's kinda blurry.

    I just purchased this pencil set (last week) on Amazon lightning sale for about $22 US discounted from around $33 US. I have yet to try them out. I also have the triangular soft core 48 pencil slightly lower grade set that I purchased a year or so ago to use for coloring books. Those pencils don't seem to have an amazing color payout, but again they aren't the high artist grade. I've never done doll customization before but I'm interested in trying, however Derwent or Prismacolor watercolor pencils aren't in my budget right now. I do have the other art supplies left over from college though (soft pastels and acrylics). So I was glad to see this review as it seems other doll customizers I've watched don't seem to know much about these pencils even though they have rave reviews on Amazon comparing them to Prismacolor and Derwent. If I do give them a try for a doll I'll be sure to come back and let you know how it went!

    Good luck then, I hope you have success with them! 😊 Like I mentioned, after trying these pencils I don’t consider them to be “high artist grade” either, despite the labelling, but other doll people seemed to like them so see what you think.

    Which sealingcoat do you use for your repaint on the Dolls? Ah, I've found the Material List

    Yes, the build up with the arteza watercolor pencils is a lil slow. I'm using them for a doll repaint character but every layer of msc i put the color doesnt get darker unless i push harder which upsets me. But i'm still at a beginer level so ig its alright for now.

    I have a set and found I struggled with the early layers. Also I haven’t found the pencils sold separately only on sets, so if you run out of a colour you can’t replace it. I use them in conjunction with all my others, that seems to work ok x

    Yes, that’s another disadvantage. Some colours get used up much more quickly than others!

    I was wondering what the difference was from your repaint to the others, as all I've seen so far have been pretty happy with them. It might be the sealant, I've had a similar problem when I used Faber-Castell with LIquitex, I felt like they were too hard for it. Good for keeping the sharp tip, but bad for sealant... I was torn wether I should give them a try, but while I think the price is great and it seems to work nicely with MSC, I also use Liquitex on my BJDs and the fact that I can't order single colours is kind of a turn off for me. Thanks for providing this information! While you had difficulties and it might not be as detailed as your dolls usually are, I definitely love the soft look of her face!

    Glad you found it helpful! Yeah, I think it must be partially the sealant choice, but personally I haven’t had the same issues with Faber-Castell on Liquitex; these are definitely harder than even the FC pencils. I just don’t get the same high-quality feel from them, so I think I definitely agree that you’d be better off buying single pencils from better brands than a huge set of these.
