Heather Dunbar slams Walmart. Income inequality in the US.

From season 3 of 'House of Cards'. HD is a fictional character, launching her Presidential challenge. (It's the Iowa caucus - opening of the Primaries.)
In a storming speech she slams Walmart for paying low wages to workers and big bonuses to top executives.
I recommend it for teachers of EFL / business / economics / politics because:
1. It's short. 2. It's very understandable. 3. It has some good vocab (and will generate more). 4. It's meaty - generates good discussion, esp. the issue of income inequality.

wasn't she just trying to make herself popular by saying things that everyone wants to hear, though? didn't she have her own agendas? i can't quite remember the plot.

NativeInterface Sure, NI, saying what people want to hear is how you win elections. IMHO it is one of the systemic flaws of democracy that there is no necessary connection between the 2 skills sets, namely A) getting elected; and B) once elected, intervening in a way which is actually useful AND can be effective against powerful vested interests. (I didn't post this because I have an axe to grind about Walmart, btw; it's just awesome politicking.)

***** Yup. I agree. As an anarcho-capitalist, i'm actually anti-democracy and pro-individual liberty. I looked this video up because i watched one of Bernie Sanders political speeches and all i could think of was this Heather Dunbar clip. Maybe Bernie would be something up your alley, then? But i think many of his socialist economic equality ideas just introduces more coercion into the economy which would cause a ripple effect of cascading unintended economic consequences, like coercive equality always does. Nevermind that coercive equality is immoral, because it removes free choice. I'm not sure why we turn to politicians with our problems. I think we should directly create solutions, with our own hands, on our own volition, and ignore them as much as possible.

+NativeInterface That's one of the few criticisms of Bernie Sanders that I actually agree with. I wonder if you still feel the same way given how much the political mood has changed in the months since you wrote it?
