In this video, Jessica goes over how to use a home iron with heat transfer vinyl. In this demonstration, she uses Easyweed, one of Expressions Vinyl’s most popular HTV’s. You can check it out on our website! goo.gl/RuvuU9
A few things to take into consideration when using a home steam iron is the steam holes. Make sure to avoid the steam holes when pressing down on your vinyl. You want a nice flat surface to apply even pressure.
A lot of people think that more heat for a longer time is best when using Heat Transfer Vinyl, but this isn’t the case. A good temperature for EasyWeed is about 300 degrees or a little below the cotton setting. You also want to make sure there is no water in your iron and that everything is completely dry.
A fun trick to make sure your vinyl is centered is to fold your shirt down the middle and line your vinyl up with the crease. You’ll get your vinyl centered every time!
After your vinyl is centered, put some multi-use paper on top of your vinyl and press down for 10-15 seconds putting a lot of pressure behind it.
Make sure not to have the heat too high or to hold the iron down for too long, that can ruin the adhesive backing. Let us know if you have any questions in the comments below! Thanks for watching!

So if I leave my iron on the image for about 10 to 15 seconds is that on there long enough that way it dont come off in the washer? If that is not long enough then how long should I hold my iron onto the image that way It doesn't come off in the washer?
@Expressionsvinyls

Hi, it depends on what type of iron on you are using. Typically it only takes 10-15 seconds but the key to it is pressure. You need to make sure you are applying pressure to it as well. Here is a link to all our heat settings based on the different types of iron on vinyl you are using. expressionsvinyl.com/machine-setting.html

@Expressionsvinyls

This one is a Hamilton Beach but any type would work. You'd want to look for one that doesn't have very many holes on the bottom and is flat. Some of the irons have a lot of different sized bumps and holes on the bottom. Hopefully that helps.
can i move the iron around like when ironing clothes or will it make no difference at all.
@Expressionsvinyls
3 жыл бұрын
It is Not recommended to move the iron around while applying heat transfer vinyl.
I tried this method, and it almost worked. I used parchment paper, and I think I pressed too hard in one part of the shirt, and it lightly discolored it. My iron has indents and it didn't have any effect.
Is this the same heating setting if I am applying vinyl to 100% polyester?
@Expressionsvinyls
3 жыл бұрын
We recommend applying the vinyl to material that can withstand the recommended heat settings. Check the heat limits of the material before application.
Can I use Freezer paper instead of Teflon sheet?
@Expressionsvinyls
5 жыл бұрын
You want to make sure there isn't any wax on the freezer sheets as that could leave a residue on your shirt. Since it was designed for food it may have that on it. Your best bet would be the teflon sheet or we do have multi use paper that works great - expressionsvinyl.com/multi-use-paper-12x20-sheet/
Can I use transfer paper on it bc I don’t have the other clear thing I didn’t know I needed it

All Heat transfer vinyl (HTV) will come with the clear carrier sheet on it if you buy it from expressionsvinyl.com. If you got it elsewhere you will need a heat transfer mask
if the material is cotton/poly blend, what setting on the iron should be used?
@Expressionsvinyls
3 жыл бұрын
This depends on which iron you are using, but usually you can use the setting right under the cotton setting for most HTV.
can i use parchment paper?

What number is usually a cotton setting? I only have numbers on my iron
@Expressionsvinyls
4 жыл бұрын
Depending on your iron it is usually towards the hotter range but not to the highest setting. You can test it out as well an a corner of the clear carrier sheet. If you put heat on it and the sheet starts to curl then it is too hot. Hopefully that helps.

HTV does not adhere well to coated materials. Check that the temperature, time, and pressure recommended for the vinyl matches with what is being used to apply. A heat press pillow may help if seams are near the application location.
