Hi Dave, Kiwi with a political science degree here. Arthur Nelson Field is a really interesting guy. Vile in his views, undoubtedly, but nonetheless super interesting. During the 1930s, New Zealand had no real fascist movement or far right movement comparable to the Nazis or Italians. The Legion, which you end up as, are the only sort of thing we had that came close. But they were pretty much just super capitalist and socially conservative, they had no real fascist elements and their actual leader, Robert Campbell Begg (John Ormond was only a member) saw Hitler as weird and stupid. Sorry for the rambling intro, but it helps set up why Field is so interesting. He was one of the few far right activists of any note we've ever had in New Zealand, especially during the Rise of Fascism. Field wasn't like Hitler or Mussolini, however, he was more simply a rabidly pro-British anti-Semite who supported Social Credit economics. He's an excellent choice for fascist propagandist in HOI4 owing to the fact he wrote prolifically. Did he do anything wrong? Other than write a bunch of anti-Semitic stuff, not really. He wasn't active or influential enough, although the guy who founded the National Front, A.K Chesterton "publicly acknowledged" his debt to Field. Open to any more questions about NZ history in the 30s, hit me up :)

I think there was also a similar confusion with the polish fascist demagogue in the game but it turns out that the guy did in fact make extremely far right and anti-communist remarks. I'm surprised of the level of detail put into political advisors in minor nations in the game.

I'm curious to ask this since you seem to have a lot of knowledge from that time period. Do you think if history had gone a bit different and the Japanese invaded mainland New Zealand do you think they would've been able to repel the invasion? The fact you guys made so many rudimentary tank designs always made me wonder, I think the Japanese would've regretted not coming as friendly tourists aha.

  • @SaltySoup-wb8eu

@@educacionespecialchannel3756 I'm not Robbie but I'm pretty sure I can give a good answer to this question. If Japanese managed to land on New Zealand there's two ways it happened: -they'll managed to go through Allies' patrols unseen and only way that could've happen is if they sended few ships and Kiwis would win in this scenario without problem, -(This one is as realistic as Germany winning WWII or Soviets managing to fuck up wehrmacht as quickly as in real life without land-lease). Imperial Navy somehow managed to destroy American and Royal navy in the Pacific and they've occupied or are fighting in Australia, if that would happen it would depended on how big forces they would have send. If those forces were small it would go just like in first scenario. If they would send a medium sized one it would either ended up as very costly victory for New Zealand or very ugly partisian warfare for Japan. If empire sended forces simmilar size to ones they've sended to invade Philippines then God save the Kiwis because Japanese would kill every non-asian looking person they would find and then started asking Asians where they'll came from. I hope that answer was something what you and J R were looking for. Have a nice day or night depending on when you will be reading it.

Polynesia has a core on Taiwan because there's quite a large native aboriginal population on Taiwan, who number almost 569,008 or 2.38% of the island's population today. They have linguistic and genetic ties to other Austronesian ethnic groups, such as the Polynesian people groups.

Yes, southern and northern Taiwan used to be the colony of Netherlands and Spain, respectively. Before Qing empire conquered Taiwan, the aboriginal people made up the bulk of the population. However, most of aboriginal cultures are on the verge of being lost. As a Taiwanese, I think Taiwan should not be a core of Polynesia. It's strange to think that Han people make up the dominant group of Polynesia.

War participation has always been kinda broken because the casualties contribute way too much so basically if you're a good player and you take out nations with minimal casualties, you tend to get less war participation than your crappy friends who take millions of casualties. Best ways to get war participation is to take a lot of losses and also occupy a lot of terrotory. Bombing and sinking ships only gives marginal score. Actually killing and destroying enemy divisions gives nothing which is weird.

By the way, the reason you have a core on Taiwan is that way back in the day, Taiwan was originally settled by people that were closer ethnically and linguistically to Polynesians than to Chinese. It was simply colonized and integrated into China later due to it's proximity to China. You can kinda see this if you play EU4 and colonize Taiwan. The culture is part of the same group as the Philippines and Indonesia. Oh, and this was just what I needed on this dreary Monday morning :D

Have you considered doing a cheesy video where you show how to defeat the US early as the Soviet Union? I saw a reddit post about this exact thing a couple of days ago, where the guy managed to do it by 1937. The actual fighting them isn't hard for sure, but I can definitely see it being kind of tricky to outmaneuver their fleet and reach their coast before they inevitably gain naval supremacy, so maybe you could chime in there. Just food for thought.

If you fight the allies and raid cap Verde plain and the Red Sea the allies send so many convoys through there you can rack up easily 10k over a year or 2 with enough subs
