    Warsong commander just had to read “your minions with 3 attack or less of charge” so if the minion rose above 3 attack it’d instantly lose charge; that way you can’t gimmick it.

    It was still really strong with patrons, you could kill your opponent with patrons alone but it was a hard deck to pilot

    @@superbeta1716 Yup, i'm pretty sure everyone knew that was the issue, just that combo, so everyone realized the solution would just be to make it so only minions with 2 or less power had charge and it wouldn't apply to grim patron anymore, what they did with the card was something no one expected and pretty much everyone thought it wasn't a good nerf.

    @@basilemasingue2459 Grim Patron with no warsong commander was still a legitimate deck after the nerf. Giving them an extra attack would've been huge.

    Or just making it so that it only affected minions that had 2 attack or less. But no, just nuke the entire card into oblivion for Grim Patron's sins.

    Undertaker going from: "Whenever you summon a minion with Deathrattle, gain +1/+1." -> "Whenever you summon a minion with Deathrattle, gain 1 attack.". Deserved but went from op to garbage.

    Can't really blame them for that, gaining that +1 health with each deathrattle summon caused it to rapidly spiral out of control to the point where you couldn't deal with it anymore.

    It wasn't even garbage when the nerf happened, it was still just one mana. Playing a deathrattle deck you could just win the game off of that card if you drew them + zombie chow + all the other cheap rattle cards

    It makes zero logic to keep Illucia at 3 mana after changing (destroying) her effect, at least they should revert her to the original 2 mana cost.

    I’m a little surprised you didn’t talk about The Caverns Below, the OG Rogue quest. It was nerfed *twice* and still saw play. I remember the deck didn’t become unviable until Giggling Inventor was nerfed because they payoff from Giggling Inventor post-completion was so strong.

    Another one was the nerf to Force of Nature. It was a 6 cost spell that originally summoned 3 2/2 treants with charge. What people might not aldo remember though is that it originally cost 5 mana. It was then nerfed to 6 pretty early, still saw a tonne of play and was then killed completely by having charge removed from the Treants and it never saw any play after that outside of very fringe and niche low tier decks.

    @@efsanegaz Pre nerf did dmg to face. with the current weapon buffs u can get +12 attack weapons and clear the board + face. It would be OP!

    The problem is the small range with 0-10 mana. When a change of +1 mana is not enough and +2 could be overkill. Dont know for sure if the game is now to old for this kind of change. So probably we will always have this kind of balance problems in the future.

    hey, i think if they made (e.g.) ancient of lore 8 mana, it'd still see good play back in the day. same goes for doctor boom if he was ever nerfed, or leeroy

    Tuskarr Totemic shoulda became a 3/3 after that tweak to the wording tbh. Wouldn't be a high roll, but would still have better than vanilla stats in tempo (3/4 -->3/5)

    Warsong commander originaly gave charge, i remember the combo, where you played with montent (or what kind of giant that change cost by your HP) giants to finish your opponent in one turn, back in the beta

    Should have gone over sorcerers apprentice nerf, so unnecessary it showed a reasonable amount of play before nerf it was just a good card but now it’s unplayable

    The saddest nerf is definitly yogg saron. I know it's a polarizing card but I had sooo much fun with it. And in my opinion there are a lot worse random effect in the game. If you played a good amount of spells yogg was actually pretty predictable, it would usally clear the board and draw some cards.

    Back on ye old hearthstone Warsong Commander didn't even have the 3 attack limitation, which made warrior otk with molten giants and brewmasters very possible if they cost 0. Another card that completely died after nerfs was Novice Engineer, a staple 1/2 minion with card draw nerfed to 1/1 that then had people completely replace with Loot Hoarders and Bloodmage Thalnos. I think the reason cards like the Novice Engineer and Broken Sun Cleric were nerfed to lose one health back in closed beta was because they were just about good enough to play in serious decks while being free. This was the age of the 4/5 4 drop and tempo trades, before the average f2p player had acquired enough dust to carelessly spend on epics and legendaries. Funnily enough because the meta was so focused on smaller minions trades and stuff like handlock wasn't fully figured out yet, Sylvannas didn't see much play despite being lower on mana cost as well, and they only thought to nerf that and Cairne after the card had become somewhat of a "reliable" legendary that free players probably saved towards and crafted by now. It's no wonder that they didn't care about handlock since it used a bunch of epics that were hard to play otherwise, so did Freeze Mage.

    Shout out to Small-Time Buccaneer. Used to be a 1 mana 1/2 Pirate that gained +2 attack while you had a weapon equipped (and was released in the same expansion as Patches, which made him even better), and got nerfed to be a 1/1 which absolutely killed the card.

    What hilarious on warsong commander is that there is barely any charge cards now so it made it below garbage.

    I had no luck when it came to the decks I liked playing. I was a F2P around before the release of Naxxramas who could normally only play decks like aggro hunter, zoolocke and midrange shaman. The alternative decks I liked playing (in thanks from what I got from the packs I opened) were Maly Freeze mage, Oil Rogue, Worgen Warrior, Caverns Rogue and Miracle Rogue. As you will see they all got nerfs or had cards removed from standard which meant I couldn't play any of them any more. You may also see they were mostly otk decks which I get aren't fun to play against, but for me they were a fresh change from all the face hunter/shaman, secret paladin decks that were even more one dimensional than these ones. The miracle decks needed to change their win condition against the faster paced decks and needed to be the aggro ones against the tank warrior and freeze mage decks that were built to beat OTK. You needed to know how much damage you had and what you needed to play around whereas for decks like the ones I mentioned and others like Murloc Paladin, Taunt Deathrattle Druid, Elemental Mage. All these cards played the same no matter the opponents deck, play your throwaway cards then on turn 9/10 get your win condition card out and more often than not you win the game from there. By Knights of the Frozen throne I cared a lot less for the game than I did previously, now frequently taking breaks, heck I practically skipped the Witchwood and didn't even try out the Boomsday Project either aside from the puzzle mode. Rise of Shadows was my last game mode I tried out then I had enough.

    So between the first nerf of warsong to Patron, I don't remember that much play of the card (granted its been some time so my memory may be fuzzy. But I was curious why you didn't mention the original warsong commander because that killed a deck and if I remember correctly basically nuked the card until patron.

    The funny thing is, at the time they could have just changed Blade Flurry to say "deal damage equal to your weapon's attack to all enemy minions" and remove the whole "destroy your weapon" thing. At 4 mana it would have been fine. At the time.

    The demon seed shouldn't work with fatigue. Keep it at release numbers but make it so it doesn't work with fatigue damage.

    That's what I always said. It feels so obviously unintended for it to work and be uses the way it is but Blizzard just refused to change it. It's clear the idea was for you to use self damaging cards to kill your opponent not to just brain dead draw your whole deck and win using a mechanic imbedded into the fundemental game itself to punish games going too long to then kill your opponent.

    Whether or not changing the cost of a card by 1 will be a big deal kind of depends on the cost of the card. If you increase the cost by one and it started at 1, you increased the cost by 100 percent. If you increase the cost of a 5 cost card to 6 you increase the cost by 20 percent.

    As far as I remember, Fiery War Axe was not immediately killed by the mana increase, it has been played less but remained relevant until stronger weapons came out and replaced it.

    I still contend they should’ve just changed starving buzzard to whenever a beast DIES. Fits the flavor, changes the brokenness of the combo, and allows it to still be playable; it’d just be a cheaper death cultist for exclusively beasts.

    @@peterkirk8510 yes it does. Because the main problem was all the beasts allowed you to draw all those cards BEFORE attacking and draw 0 cost hunters mark to instantly remove any major taunt. Death’s cultists effect would make it so you would draw as they die making combat superiority less of a given. It would allow it to be a playable combo, on theme (buzzards are scavengers who are rewarded upon death of another beast), but not broken.

    5:44 is completely not true. Fiery war axe carried on being played in warrior decks, especially ones where an early weapon was important.

    What I don't understand about some of the stat changes is why go so far so suddenly? Why not nerf Keeper to 2/3 then give a few weeks and if the problem persists go a bit further

    I remember Warsong Commander nerf. I met a player that ready to do the combo and play Warsong. Seems like he didn't get the memo and stood there wandering why his patron wont attack. I watch him full minute of nothing before he conceding. But yeah, troublesome card like her would still making trouble if didn't butchered. Giving CHARGE isn't something you play with. CHARGE is a powerful effect no matter what, and her ability proven to be keep doing damage after multiple nerfs. Some people think various treatment for her, but I glad she completely gone.

    So many of these were the result of the bad decision to try to keep Classic around forever and not have Classic cards overshadow everything new. And it still didn't work since Classic cards were still too prevalent despite continual nerfs (then the Hall of Fame idea), but they managed to ruin the use of fun cards for Wild by killing them entirely. Glad new blood eventually made the Core set and reverted most of the nerfs.

    Didn’t know they even nerfed ancient of lore, I just assumed it was power crept enough that it wasn’t needed anymore. Hardly any class struggles for card draw, 2 draw on a 7 cost is honestly just kinda meh.

    Just a mention: Blood blossom got nerfed from 2 mana to 4 mana, which made my favorite deck „darkest hour warlock“ unplayable. Also the snip snap warlock was nerfed, since you could otk your enemy really easy. I went legend with it, and it was Just Not fair.

    imo sn1p snap was a strong mech especially with mechwarper. the potential to just create a huge minion with 2-3 cards is retard.

    I am 6 minutes in the video right now and literally ALL cards that got mentioned were a few of the most toxic and unbalanced cards ever. The were either aggro oriented or part of OTK-builds (besides ancient of lore i guess) .. and we have waaaaaay too many of those decks in every meta .. i am actually not sad they nerfed these cards so much they became unplayable

    I'm curious what would happen to warsong commander if the nerf was pseudo-reversed but gives minions rush instead of charge. If stops OTK's and makes it more board-centric. But hey, this is coming from something that hasn't played since witchwood

    Wasn't Blade Flurry still played after the nerf in Kingsbane rogue? To be fair it needed a big nerf otherwise you could never give strong weapons to rogue, but most of the others nerf in this video were bad.

    I remember these times. The HS balance team has to be the worst balance team in any game ever. Even worse than LoL

    War axe was still played after nerf. Dunno what ur talking about. It only dropped out in further expansions with overall card strenght increase

    And Illucia is BEYOND BROKEN BUSTED now, basically *steal your opponents minions and decks every turn indefinitely* at this point.

    Ancient of Lore really didn’t even need to get nerfed, and if it did, maybe just make it a 4/4

    Why HAVEN'T they reverted any of these early nerfs... Except golem... mana wyrm etc. Wouldn't mind Spirit Claw nerf revoked just to snowball that thing with a 1 mana spell dps minion. Shamans don't get spell dps totems anymore, so...

    I'm a new player but would you say the recent Irondeep Trog nerf is a bit egregious? It took away like... any of their benefit. People would build decks around that effect and it's kinda sad to see that vanish so quickly

    The card needed a change but maybe increasing the mana was better. Issue with the card was how snowballs it could be

    Regarding Starving Buzzard, it seeing no play afterwards was kind of the point. The thing had been a key card in the Face Hunter engine of the time and most of the fanbase actively hated it. They didn't just want it nerfed, they wanted it gone. Leaving it in a playable but weaker state would have done little to make the community feel much better because this was back when patches were much rarer and people already felt they were not being listened to. Bringing the hammer down on it so hard was just as much because of the frustration and anger of the players towards what was felt to be a toxic deck at the time than it was because the card itself was actively harmful.

    Crabrider deserved to have windfury limited to its first turn. 2 mana windfury should not be that accessible to every class to snowball better than knife juggler.

    I waited for you to talk about corridor crriper 7 mana that cost 1 less for every min that died while he was in your hand they killed it by making him a usless 2/5 instead of an OP played in all decks 5/5

    I'm 99.9% sure I'm right, but Warsong Commander change was before Rush was a keyword, yes? What do you think would have happened if the change (in history) had been that it gave minions Rush instead of Charge?

    ​@@WavemasterAshi it would very likely see play. The nerf was supposed to gut patron warrior (otk deck), so yeah it would achieve the intended result. Patron warrior saw a bit of play post warsong nerf since summoning a bunch of patrons was still strong, even if they did not have charge, but rush would have made them pretty good. There would also be counterplay so no I dont think it was too good. To further elaborate a bit... The Issue with patron warrior was it won by either overwhelming you with patrons or by otk. Decks without board clears lost, because they couldnt deal with patrons. Decks with board clears got hit by 20atk frothing berserkers with charge. No charge means slower decks would be pretty good, since patron warrior would still be really strong against aggro. Might have even pushed the game towards a slower meta.

    @@Rarran Another change I just thought of...what if it was that it added Charge to minions you PLAY instead of SUMMON, so that the first Patron would gain Charge, but none of the others would gain anything? (Basically it would be this - if it would trigger a Battlecry, it could gain Charge)

    some of these changes were obviously made so they could sell more cards from future sets.
