@@Neofoxie No mate, he is talking about a time where wild and standard didnt exist, just after the first aventure. Against hunter turn 4 you didnt play more than one creature or you got killed the next turn.

To be fair, aggressive priest is now legitimately a thing and even with the best highrolls you can’t get faster than that in other classes So while priest was historically associated to be a slow control class, it has the tools for insane tempo now too

I remember when HS was first launched and after the 1rst two expansions as well, you were building the game for about average of 20+ turns to win your opponent. An even then if I recall correctly, you won 50 gold after 10 wins.

nah, in GVG face hunter was a thing and it ended games very quickly, turn 6 at most. And it never ran out of steam because it could reload its hand with buzzard + UTH. Quests were 5 wins for 60g or 3 wins for 40g. And they were a bitch to complete, as only constructed counted. Arena wins did not, Tavern Brawl was not a thing yet, most f2p players could not afford more than 2 semi-decent decks that could produce some wins, let alone have something for each class. You could also make up to 100g a day through winning matches - 10g per 3 wins. It was removed in Darkmoon Faire when we got this reward track thing. And players initially were furious as fuck, initial version of this reward track was horrible. Players were essentially denied any gold for multiple weeks sometimes, as there could be a stupid card pack in the way while leveling up took entire weekly quest bundle to do. At least they did fixed it later on.

@@alewis514 thank god they changed the rewards track, it was so bad. I still hate when you get golden rares that you cant DE, but I'm pretty happy with it now. For $20 an expansion you can easily farm 10k gold as a semi casual if you make sure to do your dailys. As I recently made a new account since my "main" from GvG was too outdated for standard play, it's been relatively easy to build 3 or 4 top decks then a couple others with some minor substitutions. It's nice they actually do regular balance updates too, so you can craft some OP legendary cards to grind a bunch of ladder ranks then get your dust back and move to the next top deck. I lost a lot of possible dust when I DE a months worth of arena runs and missed out on full values. If you are mostly f2p like me and use arena to build your collection, try not to dust the really powerful cards in well performing decks, tou could miss out on thousands of dust like I did.

@@alewis514 face hunter isn't even strong it was only good against bad/new player's. Also face hunter has a problem with taunts so it isn't likely for hunter to clear taunts out of the way. Even today players go face against me including rouge but they concede against me lol.

Yeah play 3-2 deal 3 damage to your face, coin 2-1 that heals for 2 and play both the 3-3s that now cost zero because you healed this turn.

With the old tokendruid (when gibberling was still 1 mana) you could have 12/11 on board on turn 1. Gibberling into coin, 2x Embiggen, 1 drop pirate that pulls 5/5 patches and 2 mana pirate from hand.

@@ollih.901 You could do better than that with Gibberling. Gibberling, coin, lightning bloom, lightning bloom, arbor up. A bunch of 3/2s, two 4/3s. Something like 23/16 on turn one. (Standard legal too, and didn't even use all the cards in your hand LOL). 1 mana Gibberling was a mistake.

Amazing how Blizzard killed this once good game.

@@andrebraga3839 when they added battlegrounds i basically stopped playing the game was totally changed and unplayable imo. Especially with the gold quest rework bullshit

I played hearthstone in beta, up until first expansion. I just tried coming back and the power creep is immense.

Currently at diamond 3 attempting to climb with Evolve Shaman. Once countered this exact opener with Coin + Lightning Bloom + Desert Hare + Evolve. Was an absolute thing of beauty.

Mage made it to turn 4 very impressive surprised made didn’t otk lack of skill on their part.

People are mad about this but old Zoo Warlock was worse. Turn 1, coin, Flame Imp, Voodoo Doctor, Happy Ghoul, Happy Ghoul. That's 11/9 in stats on turn 1 in Standard.

@@benroberts1052 it's like they felt bad that some classes/decks didn't get to sit at the cool kids table so they just lost their minds and started screaming BIG PING and smacking it on Priest and Mage more recently with Varden Hero. Which, congrats, Hero Power Mage is finally a very playable and reasonably fair deck, Blizzard, you did do that. But like... Priest is just such a weird class to go for. It's not like it's built into the kit like Mage is. Why doesn't Mage get a Hero Power option that heals? Why doesn't Hunter get a Lifesteal one of any kind? This seems unfair.

And then your oponnent plays millhouse and you dont have spells so you loss

Not that it's the best target - But they run a raise dead. Even if Millhouse is played and he trades (because you kinda have to vs Aggro) - you still get damage generation through the raise dead. If anything playing a minion helps you out because you can aim you raise dead targets better. Best counter is probably control decks or the Revolve card to cancel out the deathrattles for Xyrella

You will probably never encounter this deck in Wild and the chances of that turn 1 combo is pretty low. Wild is a bunch of Quest Hunters and Pirate Warriors

This is a control vs control match up in the year 2023. Most games are over by turn 1 or 2.

Quite impressing, I used to do the same thing with murlocs. I hardly reach 5 mana crystals and the game is over... It is all about tactics and good deckbuilding...

I would save voidtouched as a finisher, worked out good on turn 1 here though.

I did something similar to this the other say had 5 minions out with a total of like 15 attack by turn two was nuts

Back in GvG wasnt there mech mage with double mechwarper, double snowchugger on turn 2?

I dont mind aggro priest, its just the 1/3 minion thats a bit busted, maybe it should been 1/2. In wild reno decks beat it. And other aggro can kill them first like odd rogue and murloc paladin

@@newpowerup1996 They nerfed illucia, the deck fell (in standard) but Voidtouched is still one of the best 1 drops ever printed in the history of this game(2014-2022). And yet blizzard does not nerf the card. I hate that they don’t print balanced cards, then they wait wait and wait until the card is unfun and game winning. They do this every expansion. For example Stealer should have been nerfed the moment the card was printed, but instead they waited until it broke the game with quest. Until they understand this mentality, the game will always have problems ,nerfs and whiners/complainers. Never a smooth and optimized operation that keeps the majority happy, but a demoralized majority that keeps asking for a change. *edited for typing errors

The best meta was around the release of Whispers of Old Gods. I was a newbie free to play player and still got decent results with my custom made decks and had tons of fun playing the game. Even participated in one of our local tournament and made it to top 6.

Strongly agree, that whole year was the height. Personally I think the Gadgetzan meta was the absolute peak but it's basically the same era, it was when they really started pushing powerful value generation but before the steep slope of power creep kicked in. Even Ungoro wasn't terrible, although the first quests were a huge red flag of what was to come with things like hero cards, Genn and Baku showing up right after to create balance issues that are unironically still causing problems today.

@@TheSquareOnes For some nostalgic reason I've tried out wild mode to try my old fun decks out, but instantly deleted the game after I've got paired up with a "Elwyn Boar" priest. I felt so cheated that I instantly regretted trying to have fun in HS. Only BG-s can be fun but they're pushing things there too now.

Honestly this reminds me of the old heal zoo look that in turn one ir you hve the coin in hand you put in the field two 3/3 a 2/1 and a 3/2
