HEALTHY Meals for BUSY Days! Summer day on our homestead.

Summer is full of gardening and fun things off the homestead but it can be hard to find the time and motivation to cooking nourishing meals. Batch cooking has been really helpful to ease some of that pressure and still have healthy, from scratch food for our family!

I love seeing your boys playing imaginative games rather than vegging in front of a screen! Also how they help you in the kitchen or just bringing plates to the table is great! Thanks for the taco bowl idea and the info on precooking rice. I also like to put leftover rice in a freezer bag in my freezer because I can’t always use up rice fast enough and hate food waste. ❤

I found that putting cardboard flat on the ground and then piling mulch on top of it works so well to stop weeds for years. That's what we did for our little urban farm.

I would always cook up 30 pounds of ground round with seasoning and freeze in small batches. I then could take one out to make tacos, casseroles that I added all lefts over to, pizza, etc. Every Sunday I made healthy sweet breads to freeze, had slower cooker, oven, and top of stove going with meals for the week. Fridays was left overs for my husband and oldest child while the younger ones waited for pizza.

It sounds like you've already heard of this method for weeds, but if you haven't heard of the documentary called Back to Eden Gardening, it's one of our favorites! The method worked wonders for weeds (as well as water retention and soil/organic matter replenishing!) for a several people I know in the midwest area.

I need to put down cardboard first pull all the tape off of it and make your paths with cardboard and then put 4 to 6 inches of mulch over top of it!

I believe, I saw a "compost keeper" on your island/counter! How do you like it? I keep putting it in my Azure cart, but we are afraid it will start to stink (as silly as that sounds)
