I have atlas instability caused by chiropractic neck manipulations. I started to experience clicking like fire crack in the left jaw when opening mouth wide few months later. Also the jew would get easily tired when chewing, at least this improved, but the clicking is still there most of the time.

5:02 so I don't have a problem with opening mouth in terms of pain, but whenever I open my mouth it clicks very loud. It's not painful but it just feels very tight all the time. I've had this issue for 2 years now and tried to massage my jaw but with no results...

Thanks for your story. The click sound means the disc is moving when it shouldn't. But the disc does not have any nerve so you won't have pain. If you are feeling tight it means one or combination of multiple reasons. 1 clenching/grinding 2 poor posture that is stressing neck and causes referral of tight sensation to your jaw area (especially if both sides and not just on one side) and also poor posture will trigger clenching due to chin poke posture causing top and bottom teeth coming together automatically 3 jaw dysfunction. If you are clenching/grinding day or night then that can cause tightness and clicking jaw so got to fix the clenching/grinding first to help improve jaw being stressed. Clenching and grinding can be due to four other reasons. and on and on... So after explaining this far, you can see this will need a professional such as a physiotherapist or physical therapist who can perform a specific assessment and establish a specific treatment pathway just for YOU to improve and get rid of your symptoms and issues. So Please seek your own professional help. It certainly will improve and head towards complete resolution of your symptoms faster than 2 years that you have already been suffering thus far. That is what I do everyday in my clinic and I highly recommend you seek your own professional help. (please refer to 16:40 of this video also for tight jaw/cheek) How much emotional and stress cost have you been putting up with? Please invest some time and money in trying to resolve this problem- use a professional knowledge and help to get you feeling 100%! Best wishes in health.

@@metrophysiotherapy Wow thanks for your quick response. Yes I definitely clinch/grind my teeth while I'm asleep. My dentist already gave me a mouth guard years ago but she also mentioned that this isn't a long time solution. What can I expect from physical therapy? Should I be looking for manual therapy or only massages for stress reduction?

Right, so you need to get to the bottom of why you are clenching / grinding. Manual therapy or massage or exercises specific to you or combination or other assessment is required all need to be determined by your physical therapist. This physical therapist is usually not your standard physical therapist but some one who has special interest in assessing and treating your specific symptoms. Mouth splint will protect your teeth but unlikely to stop clenching / grinding. Got to keep looking for the right person in your local area. First thing is to get the diagnosis right so you can get the right treatment. Keep seeking for the right person with the right knowledge. Once you have the right diagnosis whether it be jaw or neck related posture issues or hormones or previous injuries, or the combination of the list is so long. You need the help of the right professional to figure this out and once that’s clear, solution is going to be layed out for you to walk through step by step. Best wishes
