Amelia, you genuinely made me cry. I've been suffering with similar symptoms for a year now and I can't tell you how ALONE I feel in this. I'm just 19, and seeing my friends eating whatever they want without any worries makes me so angry inside. It just seems unfair. I'm the odd one, the one who always tries to eat "healthy", doesn't drink alcohol and is too scared to eat certain foods. The fact is, I'm doing this all for my health. I can't tell you how many times I've wished to have my normal life back! Life seems much more difficult now. But I'm trying my best to stay positive, and videos like this give me the strenght to keep going. Thank you Amelia, you have no idea how many people can benefit from this! Keep shining! 💫 Much love from Italy 💋

Hey, I dealt with something similar and it has taken a while, just over a year, for me to even try to get off medications. I completely feel your pain; feeling like the odd on out and feeling really upset that everyone can eat what they want and I can't for example have chocolate without it bothering my stomach a lot. I am now off my medication but still feel the symptoms sometimes but it is very minor. The thing that helped me the most I believe was exercise and eating healthier (reducing/cutting sugar intake, I didn't have coffee or chocolate for a few a while). But, as soon as I started working out a few weeks later my symptoms got good enough for me to try not taking my daily medications. Which reflects Amelia's point about our health being related to our entire body, i.e., so if you're stressed that can affect your symptoms. I found my stress levels were pretty high and working out helped resolve that, and then eating less/no sugar/pop/coffee for a few months seems to have done the trick for getting me off the meds. Hope you feel better soon, there are many people that understand your pain, don't feel alone :)

I’m also 20 and I have had IBS with constipation for 12 years and it has made me have depression and anxiety for 4 years and have bipolar from 2019 until now. I now have to always live with bipolar, so I feel your pain. My friend always wants me to eat more and pressures me to eat more even when I say no.

I have celiac disease, and it is just....not nice. No one seems to really take things like that (celiac, ibs, sibo, etc) seriously, they tend to just think we're being overdramatic or talking ourselves into our symptoms. Thank you for sharing your story!

Amelia, you responded to me when I reached out to you about how my symptoms are similar and I wanted to say thank you for having the bravery to maintain your open-ness about illnesses like this. I was housebound for 4 months, I am still only leaving the house 3 times a week and I don't know if I will be well enough to even start university next year (gap year atm) but you have made me feel less alone. I refuse to eat in front of anyone except my parents because I find it too stressful to try and hide my symptoms from people and get paranoid about their reactions if I'm honest about how any symptoms are bogging me down. thank you for being you and smashing the stigma around gastric illnesses xx

I had to reply as this is so similar to me. I have been housebound since October, and like to eat alone and get anxious at even seeing people because of my symptoms :( They suspect IBS but I think there's something more, I have acid reflux and hiatus hernia which I know for sure, but I feel like there's so much more to it, and being unable to go out to the Drs makes it so much worse :( Sending love to you as I know how it feels, you are deffo not alone xx

Many naturopaths specialize in exactly the issues you're struggling with. I'm so glad I sought one out when I had issues with IBS and candida ten years ago. My symptoms were gone almost immediately and I've never had issues with IBS since. Probiotics were one of the main interventions. I love Chris Kresser too! Thanks for the update and sharing so much of your life with us Amelia.

It's so nice to hear that you've taken ownership of what's been happening to you and are an active part in your treatment. I work in the ER in Southern California and it's really a shame how many people just rely on medications and doctors to solve their problems without even attempting to understand what's happening with their bodies. I've always been torn between a career in fashion and in healthcare but it's when I hear things like this that I'm really gratified that I've picked healthcare and am applying to medical school this year! 🙏🏽

I've had stomach problems since I was 14 and I'm now 23. It got so much worse during my final year at university, so after uni I went back to the doctors and I've had literally every test done under the sun, bloods, h-pylori, endoscope, MRI scan, ultrasound, and i've still not found any answers. I definitely agree that stress makes it 10x worse, but it's such a vicious circle of trying not to stress up when your stomach hurts and then you stress that you're stressing!!! ahhh you're so not alone!!

I'm so glad you posted this update!!! I've been so interested in different diets that help these kinds of conditions because candida is an issue in my family. I'm on my last few days of a special diet now, and while there are good days and bad, I know that giving it an honest shot can only help me. Because of that, I totally support your last tip of being selfish. There is nothing worse than causing more pain and discomfort because of a fear of offending someone else. You have to let go of things that don't serve you. Stay strong! You're doing great! 💕

I love you so much. Thank you for posting this. I've recently started having a few small stomach related issues (nothing really like yours, just really small things) and seeing where you are now compared with your first health video really helped. It was worth the wait. 😊 Being a microbiologist I can tell you antibiotics can help or can make the problem worse and certain bacteria are a lot easier to get rid of than others. I can say you will absolutely find something that works completely eventually, it just might take a while. But I'll be here rooting for you just like all your other followers. You deserve to be happy and healthy, as does everyone. Sending all the love and hugs in the world your way 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

When I saw the first video you did about your health it made me honestly feel much better and not alone. Although I don't wish for people to feel like this, it helps to know I'm not making it up. I was scared for you as I was scared for myself and was waiting for this update. I'm so glad you now know what is going on and I wish you all the best in getting your health back! This is such a wonderful video and you've done such a fantastic job of explaining everything here 💖 Personally, I have chronic illnesses that stem from a genetic disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and your advice in the latter part of this video resonates SO MUCH with me. Especially the part about being selfish. It's such a difficult lesson to learn. I spent SO many years pushing my body and putting myself through so much totally needless suffering for the sake of other people and I've ended up paying for it down the track, because of the damage all that overdoing-it & eating things my body couldn't handle did. Thank you so much for this video, hun -- you're what we chronically ill people call a Chronic Illness Warrior 🤘😊🤘 I hope things improve steadily from here and you get to wave goodbye to your illness asap 💖

Amelia, thank you so much for sharing! Last year, I went through a similar experience and I 100% agree with your advice to be selfish. I too was embarrassed and that made it so much harder to deal with on a daily basis. I had SIBO (treated with xifaxin and cured) and will live with IBS-C for the rest of my life. Add severe anxiety and major weight loss and you feel like you are drowning. I'm am so grateful that you have the strength to open up and share advice on this topic because I'm sure there are those out there that are struggling with this too and need help. Thankfully I'm doing much better now (it's been a year), but you really do have to take care of yourself. Don't worry about others peoples reactions. Your loved ones and true friends will understand and love you no matter what!

Thank you for being so open and honest about it all. I struggle so much to discuss my health issues with the world, so I know how brave you're being. You're helping to spread the word about something which is difficult to be open about, and few people realise just how big an impact it can have on our lives. Sometimes, it feels like I'm alone, like I'm making it all up, and like I'm not really sick. But watching this, and reading all these comments reminds me that I'm not crazy, that it's ok to be sick (10 years this year!) and not to give up trying to get better. We're in this together :) Sending all the love

i'm so happy that you finally have some answers!! i've had issues with irregular menstrual cycles, hair thinning, really really bad cystic acne and after i did my own research into it (and looked at my blood tests with my minuscule understanding of biology), i diagnosed myself with PCOS. my parents are both doctors and when i explained exactly what was wrong with me and meds that worked for others, they finally understood and gave me prescriptions (which are working!!!). sometimes you really have to be your own advocate for these kinds of things. now i'm enrolled in three different nutrition courses online to learn more about inflammatory foods which could be flaring up my symptoms. educating yourself is so so so important. Thank you so much for such an awesome video. I'm 17, and was diagnosed when I was 15 with SIBO. I battled it for about a year and a half (I spent about 9 months undiagnosed/getting tests done and the other 9 on a FODMOP diet). I just recently had what I believe to be a relapse, but I'm on tour with a drum corps, and I'm all the way across the country from my home and gastroenterologist. I also understand doctors not taking you seriously. I was told probably by 10 different doctors it was just a stomach flu. A 9 month long stomach flu! How ridiculous! My peice of advice is to find a Whole Foods or a QFC. They have amazing quality of food, as well as isles of FODMOP friendly things, and the workers there are usually extremely helpful in finding stuff for you if you ask.

I'm going to share this video with a friend who is battling similar issues. And with so many people who have food allergies, you do have to be "selfish". Hi Amelia thanks for sharing your story and updating us. I have been experiencing a lot of uncomfortable intestinal symptoms too for well over a year, have had blood tests, intolerance tests, endocrine tests and am now seeing a nutritionist. Some days I feel better, some days I am worse and others I try to ignore the situation all together or convince myself that things have improved. I'm not convinced that we know the cause of all this but if anything I have become aware as you said that when I get stressed my intestines go crazy. I hope you are able to reach a point soon where you feel comfortable and healthy again. ❤️💛

You've touched my heart. I have an autoimmune disease which makes me have to be on a special diet for life, and there's no cure. There's much physical pain, too. I try to live as if I am completely normal, and I applaud your "selfishness" and care to not focus on your SIBO. May you continue to keep your cheerful attitude and find joy in life.

Thank you for opening up about what youve been through. I know this video will help others. In my early 20s I suffered from low blood sugar & the doctors thought it was all in my head, as some of the symtoms mimick mental illness. Thank God for my step mom who had low blood sugar herself noticed the signs & got me proper help.

Love this video! I'm glad you're feeling better. After over 3 years of symptoms and multiple tests that came back inconclusive I have just recently been diagnosed with IBS myself. I wholeheartedly agree with you saying you felt lonely and as if no one understands, digestive issues and chronic illnesses really take a toll on your mental health. My symptoms were so severe at one point that I now suffer with anxiety whenever I eat out. I'm glad I'm not the only one 💕💖💕

Bethan Bird just wanted to say i also have "food anxiety" when i go out to eat! i'm always so afraid something i eat won't agree with my stomach and i'll be sick while i'm away from my own bathroom. tbh, it does happen and sometimes i have to leave events suddenly. i just try to be as honest as i can with loved ones and over time they've really understood and been supportive. so now if nothing bad happens i can enjoy a fun outing but if i do feel sick, i just leave and don't feel guilty about it. ♥️ sending love and wishing you luck on your journey 😊

Amelia, thank you so much for sharing this. You are helping so many other people! I personally have had a lot of gut issues this year, and have bloating and abdominal pain everyday. I am seeing a urologist next month, but am definitely looking into SIBO now and think I will order an online test. Thank you so much for helping

My friend went through this. She gave up dairy, eggs and gluten and sugar. This really helped and now she's much better and can stray a little in terms of dairy and sugar, but she's still gluten free. She used to be a major sugar person but now prefers a nut butter as a treat. Just thought it might be nice to hear a success story as it must be tough to go through xx

I just watched your video and I'm crying! I am going through the same thing as you. I just finished my second round of antibiotics for sibo and now I'm on a course of antimicrobials. I had a few days where I was feeling okay and then I ate a food (cauliflower no less) that I mistakenly wasn't supposed to and I became so ill and bloated and it totally discouraged me. But your video made me feel less alone and the courage to keep fighting. Thank you for posting this!

I've just started my journey of tests. I have a lot of the same similar symptoms to you. I think the hardest part is your mind. Yeah it's horrible going to the bathroom. But when you "think" about everything and over think. That's the worst. And when you "think" your fat because of the bloating, it's hard. Stay strong girl. You're totally not alone.

I love that you do these videos, because they are horrible life issues that people have and it's so nice to have a community that supports and understands this. Also I feel like it reinstates that people should really go to the doctors when something might be wrong, I feel like we live in a culture where we self-diagnose ourselves and end up making ourselves worse!

I just cried the whole time through your last video on this subject because someone finally got it. I have *basically everything you do, and having someone talk about it, means everything. I really don't feel alone so much anymore. Much love to you!!! From one sufferer to another lol- Remember to care for yourself, and just keep going darling. Even, and (especially) on bloaty days!

I think you are so incredibly brave making this video and I so wish I had had this when I first started getting similar symptoms. It was such a difficult time in my life and I felt so alone and isolated. It feels like you are talking about me in this video as I have had such a similar situation experience and it can be so difficult and fistrating when there is no instant cure so it's amazing to know that I'm not alone and there are other people that are going through the same thing. Like you I try and not let it rule my life and do my best not to think about it 24/7 as hard as they can be as I know it definitely makes it worse. Anyway thank you, I think you are amazing and I know this video will help so many people

I don't suffer from these except sugar and carb addiction and gluten intolerance. I do feel better when off of these. I want to thank you for the update; I appreciate how difficult it is for you, Amelia. I know it's a cliche' but I really feel your pain. I feel you are very brave and transparent to post these videos, so I feel so much admiration for you. I pray this will come to an end soon, or at least be genuinely controlled in your life. It's wonderful that you reach out to others in the midst of your pain. Godspeed, xo, Rachel

I have never commented on any of your platforms - but have been a long time subscriber. I just want you to know - this was exactly what I needed to watch/hear today. I'm just in the beginning stages of undergoing testing (very similar symptoms) in a effort to diagnose what I may be suffering from - it is so hard to articulate to somebody who doesn't live it everyday (for me it's been about a year and a half of really bad symptoms - maybe another year more before that). So thank you - thank you - thank you - for sharing. Xoxoxo
