This was very helpful. Thank you. Right now as an excuse to cut patients off of controlled substances they are diagnosing everyone basically with autoimmune diseases with somatic symptom disorder and now everyone has a psych diagnosis in their chart error and are unable to be taken seriously in the healthcare system.

Health anxiety is by far the worst of the worst that has ever happened to me. Words can't describe how sorry I am that I ever got caught in this dangerous and potentially lethal loop. I've lost my life.. all I do is exist and if this doesn't stop soon I may not be doing even that!

I'm so excited to listen to you tonight with this video I'm embarking on quitting smoking I had oral cancer twice I have a mirror of mental disorders bipolar comorbid generalized anxiety disorder PTSD and borderline well the borderline of PTSD could be the same thing cuz the symptoms overlap but just to keep it you know to a minimum LOL all the diagnoses but the anxiety of Life distress of getting through everyday having a disability like this and then having the smoking thing over my head and the cancer surviving it but then when anxiety and distress hits the coping skill has been smoking which is going against my health so it's been really hard. I haven't been able to quit smoking until just recently because the guilt got so much I'm also a recovered addict alcoholic in AA for 30 years and I just joined nicotine anonymous and I'm diving into the program so I'm doing what I can now to lessen my chances of cancer again and it's stressful because the probability of me getting it again is high with the anxiety and everything it's very hard but I just try to stay grateful and use spiritual principles to lessen my anxiety and to do what I can now to take care of my health the thing that I keep remembering it's it's better late than never

Anxiety is an emotion that is designed to motivate you to do what you can to prevent harm to yourself. People with health anxiety, their anxiety significantly interferes with their quality of life. Each person has to decide where that line is. Just like we used to talk about during flu season for example, taking reasonable steps to protect yourself based on your risk factors. People with COPD or diabetes or autoimmune issues are at higher risk and therefore may decide more restrictive steps are reasonable based on the available data and in consultation with their PCP Another example... I have a very significant history of cancer in my family so I choose not to drink alcohol, smoke and limit my time in the sun significantly and wear zinc-based sunscreen. Some ppl may think that is too cautious But by taking those reasonable, evidence-based steps, it allays my anxiety. We have also routinely looked at the severity. With the flu of 2009 (i think) it was much more dangerous/deadly than other years, so I took much stronger precautions.

I’m glad I came across this video! My daughter who I got when she was 10 was abandoned by her mom and has mental health issues including physical and SA at the hands of abusive boyfriends! The past 2 1/2 yrs she started having symptoms no one could explain! Thus started the internet searching which is obsessive! Any specialist you can think of she’s been to including at least 4 drs in their specialty she’s dr hopping! We even went to the Cleveland Clinic! She has had therapy in the past many times! All her tests are negative and when the drs mention trauma therapy she freaks out! She believes she is going to die! I don’t know how to help her and it frightens me!

I don’t know! Today I had to take her to get 3 MRIs brain, cervical and thoracic were scanned! I asked her if she needed to talk to somebody about how her symptoms are effecting her mental health! She’s been talking to the same lady for 2 yrs they’re like friends she cries with my daughter she doesn’t help her IMO! she claims she doesn’t need trauma therapy and it’s not psychosomatic but the majority of drs tell her it’s trauma and her brain is wired the wrong way and she could benefit from it! She is high anxiety been diagnosed as Bi-polar she refutes it all the drs are dumb and don’t care! She has been to 5 neurologists, 3 gastro, 2 ENTs, 3 dermatologists, 2 pain drs, 2 urologists, 3 vascular, 2 headache specialists, many ER visits, She now claims she doesn’t have mental illness she has attempted 5 times the most recent was 2 weeks ago I had no idea my 19 yr old granddaughter called the ambulance and she didn’t want me know! she said she was pain and took 2 tramadol and 2 clonapin but spaced out in timing she was passed out her lips were tuning blue and her breathing wasn’t good! She said it wasn’t an attempt just too much medicine! Her symptoms keep getting worse always something new her latest is temporary paralysis arms and legs which only happens at the Dr offices she says her hands swell and her first digits below the nail are bleeding randomly her hands are fine! Anytime I bring up trauma therapy she gets angry and won’t talk to me! When she gets quiet I know I have to go over and check on her! She is 50 and very stubborn when prescribed meds she will take them and quit because they don’t work and she doesn’t like the way she feels! We have had many interventions for her she’ll go to the hospital and then leaves before she can get some good help! As much as we try to help she accuses of us of never being there for her which is totally the opposite! The whole family is effected by this her sister and brothers love her but they have had to distance themselves it’s to painful for them! It’s very hard on her father and myself and her children are caught in the middle of it and they’re getting angry about it! Her daughter is in therapy but won’t leave home because of mom! Im in therapy recently! I’m sorry for the book I wrote somehow it makes me feel better to vent it!

MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome) is another illness that's not very well known. From my experience, some doctors and family were quick to label it as anxiety or somatic.

I've had somatization disorder now for 12 years being diagnosed only 6 years ago. After hundreds of doctors appointments and multiple tests like m.r.i.s, ct scans, ultrasounds over that 12 year span, nothing has been found from these symptoms that I go through. I've tried meds, cognitive behavior therapy, acupuncture and almost everything in the book these past 6 years yet I still suffer from this debilitating disease. I applied for social security disability and got it right away as have just been crippled by this disease. Scary thing is that you don't know what's real and what's not. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer last year even though I felt no symptoms for that one particular thing. It was found as I had an m.r.i. for swelling under my jaw. My shrink said to stay away from doctors while my doctor said if i'm dealing with real symptoms, i must follow up with a doctor. I feel real painful and destressing symptoms....what do I do? Any advice would be appreciated?

I have had constant palpitations for over a year now. I'm certain it came due to covid that I never tested positive for. But everything started to smell like crap so much I almost puked after smelling certain things like coffee or banana. Also I had a whole range of other symptoms. But I only got tested when the symptoms began and that was about 2 weeks before the smells started. I later got severe back pain and numbness throughout the body. Lost sfinkter control. But the doctors had already started doubted me since I was so certain it was covid even though I didn't have a positive test. Eventually they let me have a MRI. But it never revieled anything. Later I learned that contrast fluid is needed to spot inflammation of the spine which never was administrated. Now I suffer severe erectile dysfunction. Also I had a weird radiating sensation on top of my nose that I was complaining about. Over time scar tissue have started buiding up on my nose. It's really ugly but since my doctors have decided it's all in my head I don't get any help. I do believe it's some kind of endothiel dysfunction because when I'm resting I can feel my pulse/heartbeats throughout the body like ny nose, fingertips and places I never felt it before. Also I'm getting spikes in blood pressure after excertion. If I walk the stairs I can get diastolic blood pressure over 130. Especially when standing up. I'm actually thinking of applying for assisted suecide if I don't get the right help soon. I'm to young for getting severe ED and these heart issues and I cannot function normally at all. I've asked them to test me for T-cell immunity so I can show I actually had covid a year ago but they don't want to spend money on me it seems. Oh yeah I got ME/CFS back in 2016. So either the doctors blame these new symptoms on the ME, which all are new and doesn't seem to correlate with ME-symptoms in general or they think it somatisation. Either way it's the cheapest outcome for them to blame either of those two.
