Healing chronic illness & growing nervous system regulation. SBSM success story
Meet Raven. She is one our SmartBody SmartMind (SBSM) alum. We connected via social media, after she saw a post of mine that expressed my worry about certain ‘nervous system’ training techniques that only focus on specific parts of the brain (in this case, it was the limbic system).
► Irene mentioned Dan Siegel in their talk. She can't find the exact reference she mentioned, but recommends his book, Mindsight.

This was phenomenal. I watched the whole thing and got so much out of Ravens insight and description of her process. Her regulated nervous system and joy of life are apparent and inspiring.
This was so beautiful it sounds like me! Nurse in emergency for 25 years and childhood developmental trauma never felt safe was put in an incubator & in institutions for the first few months of life Plus a dsyregulated mother which has caused trauma and now I have severe CFS I’ve definitely the same symptoms as Raven and totally hated via every cell the DNRS program my body was screaming no this is not right!
Ladies thank you so so much for making this video and sharing with everyone. I feel like I have so much work to do In myself and I’m feeling hopeful and excited to heal my traumas and making space in my body to enjoy this world in a much better me. Thank you!❤️
Thank you so much for these interviews. They are so helpful. I'm in 21 day NSR. These are really helpful to get little tidbits about SBSM.
OMG, what a gorgeous being! There is something about you, Raven, that is immensely powerful. Immensely. I yawned soooo much in this interview and I've never done that watching any other SBSM interview (even though they're all awesome in their own way). I'm with Irene: you have a future in coaching others through this work. I hope to see your work pop up in my field in future! (And... thanks, Irene. Always. And in all the ways ;) )
Thank you for this video. I just loved her voice how peaceful it was through out this exchange and it was just so calming. Such a pleasure to listen to you both. Thank you 🙏🤍
Absolutely fantastic!! And yes, Raven, you would make a wonderful coach :). Like Raven, I was committed to a brain-retraining program similar to DNRS (the Gupta program) for a long time to heal from chronic illness (mold illness and related chronic fatigue, MCAS, chemical sensitivity, dysautonomia similar to POTS, etc.), and I did make significant progress (from about 15% functioning to about 70%). But also like Raven, I sensed intuitively that my body did not want me to "stop" my thoughts and feelings as part of that brain retraining, that more emotion, especially anger, needed to be released. I heard about Irene and am currently going through her 21-Day Nervous System Tune-up a second time, in addition to working with a somatic Internal Family Systems therapist to further allow my body to release stored trauma. I look forward to Irene's Smart Body, Smart Mind program. Thank you both.

@Martha, would you say Irene’s program helped more than Gupta? I’ve been doing Gupta on and off and have mixed feelings about it. Like you, I feel uncomfortable with the “stop” part.

Amazing! I did DNRS but it backfired in the long run. I have mold and very severe MCAS, too! How did you recover?
I’m not even finished watching this this video yet but I just have to comment now. This is really great. Thank you Raven for sharing your story. I Identified so much with several things that you said. It’s so true: when you are feeling “messed up”, just do the work. There are some occasions that we just can’t do it at that moment but there are many times where we just keep pushing through with our to do list or whatever it is and the truth is, we need to stop and just do the work so that we can get to some semblance of regulation. That’s when you’re able to get stuff done. Just do the work! I have experienced the same thing. I just tried the bell hand and I got a shock of energy run through my body. I almost came off the chair. I did not expect that. I’ll have to look into that more deeply. Obviously something was happening there. I am a 21 day student and have not done SBSM yet. I did try working with the adrenals though based on one of Irenes videos. Also, I am the same way. My right adrenal stabs me way more than my left. Your experience with that was really cool to hear. I’ve had something similar occur. It is amazing. Thank you Irene for putting this work out there and teaching. It really is a lifesaver and a game changer.
It was such a joy to meet Raven and to get a glimpse of your work, Irene. It sounds whole, solid, deep, super subtle, and powerful all at once. Kidney epiphany: I lost my right adrenal to cancer. A rare and deadly type that made my life seem like hell for at least 6 years. I have connected it to trauma/CPTSD and related chronic stress, but now it clicked in. When I aired my hunch to the endocrine specialist, he actually raged at me, or rather at those he assumed had put the heretic idea in my head that cancer could be related to trauma or anything other than coincidence. Jeeze. Keep up the beautiful work!
OHMY GOD!!! It spunds like ME!! Im plteaued with limbic system retraining. And Im told to accept my state more and resist less….😠🤬🤯🤯🤯 THANKS for this video
Thank you. I am appreciating this greatly
Same thing for me when I done DNRS, I really think that to repressed or ignore feeling isn't a great thing and I was so uncomfortable with this. I stopped really soon the program.
Loved this. Thank you, Raven! ✨
Oh just amazing
This is really helping me understand SBSM, as I had early developmental trauma, so EMDR didnt work for me either. I hope I will sign up for this program soon🙏.

A beautiful share, so helpful, 🙏🌱🧚♀️🐾thank you
Oh god, I rarely comment on youtube, but as a kid I was told to "relax, meditate, do yoga.." due to illness and till this day I hate to do all of it as it was making me angry. Not to mention that it was not helping at all. I even have physical symptoms of anger when I read about positive thinking!
I’ve done DNRS and others over the years. I’ve done your 21 day program. Could you please address if blurry/double vision (linked to chronic illness) can be healed ?

Can you help someone with chronic illness who also has Autism and ocd- I feel like it really hinders me in releasing trauma. Do you have any clients with any of these extra disorders

Have you come across the work of Carol Tuttle at all? Her books ‘The Child whisperer’ and ‘It’s just my nature’ have been perspective shifting for me. Her 4 energy types describe the natural energy you move through the world with and we will live in our secondary energy (second nature) due to feeling unsafe to express our natural self as children. This causes an imbalance in the body which is disease. Type 4 energy I always see as the natural autistic traits and may be helpful to look at. My brother has the type 4 energy and had OCD as a child. 💖
Great stuff thankyou 🙏💕 Ps have you heard of the 2020 Stanford study that shows with chronic anxiety/pain, there are no messages going back from our Cortex to the amygdala? - my friend just told me bout it, he called it "amygdala hijacking".. apparently that's a thing. 🌿 Anyhoo, loved this discourse, band am saving up to participate in your course. 💕🙏💕✨

Can you still work in the medical field w/o numbing? Im in ER. We need ER staff in emerg situations. I LOVE my job….:-( But it has slowly been killing me. Can I think of going back again? But part time, with releasing as It comes?

genevieve Baril, Jen here from Team Lyon. We do certainly need ER staff in emergency situations, and thank you for being one of those people. My sense is that whether or not one is able to go back to working in an ER would depend on a few things including one's level of nervous system capacity and regulation and the environment and level of support in the specific ER. To give you an example, I have a good friend who has worked in an ER for decades and having great friends and supportive coworkers has made all the difference. We tend to get more clear about what will and won't work for us as regulation continues to grow.
