This is the Top Gear of music channels Edit: the old Top Gear
Excellent review guys. I was contemplating buying this unit and was a bit skeptical but after this review I can't miss out on this awesome unit. Thanks for the review and the laughs, cheers.
You two are the best reviewers I've seen. I always seek out any review that you do for the equipment that I want. Every time.
14:27 that pick teleport was glorious.
You guys are the coolest dorks I've ever seen! Keep up the good work.
Thank you gentleman. Thoroughly enjoyed this demo on a truly inspiring piece of kit. Cheers.
you know what, I love this demo for it's honest learning on the fly of how to use the pedal. i'm an older bloke considering moving away from the individual stop box and want something that is straight forward and fast to get a good sound. also not everywhere appreciates my mesa head and quad box, so di is very handy. i'm sold
So I’ve had this thing for about a year and a half. I absolutely love it. Even the built-in presets are great. I’m still building rigs. I just built a rig so I could play Be Quiet and Drive by Deftones. It took maybe like 10 minutes total time to find the tones and I was good

I play in a hard rock / metal cover band and I use the Headrush. Absolutely fantastic tone and perfect for gigging. This units distortion at volume is second to none.

What does your physical rig look like with this thing. What do you run it through? Does it need a power amp to power it?
@davesegal2631
Жыл бұрын
@MusicWeaponsFood I run my complete signal to front of house when I can. To move air behind me, I run into an Orange Crush head into the effects loop return and then a 2×12. Sometimes I will run into a powered 12 speaker, which will give a pure tone.
This was a very useful video and helped me when choosing. Also the touch screen is fab 😃😃😃😃
Great review and Chaps you're fast becoming one of the most influential guitarists on my playing :)
You guys do the best Demonstrations- thx for laffs as well - watching from out at Sea on my cruise ship gig ... I 99% 4 sure getting this HeadRush ! Thx great playin Gentleman..
My very first Multi-effects unit that I owned was the Zoom 9000S, I'll never forget it, it was a hand held unit smaller than a portable DVD player, you attached the processor to an amp or table and the foot-switch (included) stayed on the floor, the best setup so far, I don't understand why they haven't advanced on that all these years
The tones in this video are absolutely incredible! Great work!

Alex Church post editing does wonders. this unit sounds good but post editing is the only way i can figure how they got the fender gt 40 to sound good. every other review ive heard sounds like trash.

Pete Thorn and Rabea Maassad have video's out that show how good this actually sounds...with Rabea doing a full review shortly. I'm a soundman...rubbish in ....rubbish out...no amount of editing will make crap sound good. This thing gives me a Headrush with the tonal landscapes I've heard so far.
Chappers: '...I'll come back fat...' Captain : '...ter...' Just gold. Lol.
But does it Miku?
The tone at the start is so amazing
That intro sounds INCREDIBLE with headphones in

@@stevehudson6695 this Headrush has all the amps and pedals to get any tone, you should see the 200 different speaker IR that sounds so real.
Oh man. I am already a fan of this thing. That starting tone was smooth as fuck.
Because of you two fine chaps, Im getting one of these!!!
I don't even know what you are reviewing here, but the banter was spot on. You guys made me laugh loudly, which is a strong achievement from anything on the internet.
Some awesome Ty Tabor sounding riffs during the intro!!
I’d take my (Eleven Rack Driven!) Headrush over Helix ANY DAY! This thing sounds phenomenal, is easy (and fun) to use, and helps a person really learn the ins and outs of building a rig.

I have often wondered if I should have gotten a headrush, I wanted one over helix but thought helix was better, helix is good but it seems an easier user experience to dial in a headrush, whats your take?
@RickyTickyTV

@@pauljosse headrest all the way....fewer amps but the amps sound more realistic and the gain sounds better and of course, its easier to operate.
So Rob just rips the tremolo bar of his guitar, on a whim, starts playing slide with it, and instantly sounds better than me.... Damn it. I need to practice more.
Rob's playing in this video was outstanding!
Love your content rob! You're a very inspirational guitar player!!:)
Love the Doom reference. The Captain was like...uh sure. Lol
Lee's little jabs at Rob are priceless!
Rory edits the videos. Rory's awesome
I like the Headrush more than the Helix Lt even though the Helix Lt has more functions, the Headrush amp models sound closer to a tube amp making it more realistic sounding in my opinion of course.
That thing sounds amazing , I gotta have one !
Rob's playing tho! Getting insane levels of goodness!
Just got one an it is so simple to use. Sounds great as well.

this looks fantastic
That little repeat head nod at 1:16 and 1:21 so on made me laugh and do a double take every time. The editing is dope

not really ever been a fan of multi effects, but this one makes sense to me
Best interface on a programmable effects pedalboard I've seen to date. Also it was noticeable how the captains strat tones were preserved through the unit.

It's literally a complete rip-off of the Helix, not only cosmetically, but also with the ability to adjust parameters hands-free, while being limited in other ways, with different amp/effect sounds, plus a touch screen.

Yeah, I'm finding the Eleven really brittle and powdery, no realism to it. Or rather, it sits right in the middle of Uncanny Valley. I played the AxeFX and it was like plugging into a patch bay where on the other end WAS the vintage amp, cab and Neumann U87 mic. Shocking difference. I play BlackStar, GrooveTubes and Wampler plus home made valve amps - I grew up with triodes so virtually none of the digital stuff comes close, though I am a technophile too.

Loving the old school chapters bleed the light reference near the beggining😂👍
Nice playing :)))
was waiting for this.
Having used both of these units, my only legit complaint is the with the flexibility of the chain on the headrush. I like the way both units sound. If you've ever mic'd an amp and played away from the amp and just heard yourself through monitors, that's your point of comparison. That said both have a legit quality sound. Helix has more flexibility with a longer amount of time to learn the unit. Headrush is easier to get a convincing sound out of but lacks the detailed flexibility in the chain and with some of the settings on specific components. I am sticking with the Helix for now but am open to other units in the future.
I always wanted to learn to play the guitar, but the beginning seed so slow and frustrating...

Just got a Headrush. It will solve all my problems and give years of bliss! That's what it's supposed to do, right? Trying to decide on what gear to buy is going to lead us to special recovery groups!! Line 6 OR Fractal? No wait, Kemper!! Oh, hey, Positive Grid!! Screw it, I want a REAL amp. 2 years later, I really want the convenience of a pedalboard. Back to Kemper.. Now I have 4,000 profiles and I can barely remember my name. Did I mention the headaches? ... Okay, Headrush and simplicity. No, hold on again, I just saw a guy on TV with a Kemper! I must have the best!!! I must!!! Thanks for the review guys. I‘ve managed to procure one of these and your review is totally correct but one thing I‘d like to add is that their customer support leaves much to be desired. First off, the homepage is inop to log into your account and sending them an email is pretty much useless since I‘ve not gotten a response for two mails sent in two weeks. Ive had a Boss GT100 for y few years now and their customer support was almost immediate......for 1/3 of the price
Haha, I love how they edited in Rob's nodding throughout the video.
eventually when i really progress as a guitar player as a reward to myself id definately get one of those amazing beauties!!!!
Thank you for the review guys. Great piece of gear. Would appreciate a lot a review on the Looperboard by Headrush from you... please please please. Rgds 👍
"People don't watch us for a slick demonstration, Lee." Too true. I watch for personalities and interactions.
Nice review :)
That first tone sounds better than a lot of stuff I've been hearing lately
I'd love to see a rack version, with more I/O Loops, maybe some digital I/O and a DI out ;)
Truly a new contender in the flood of multi FX devices. The real need is for a unit that truly sounds great going direct into a full range system (a PA, a computer interface...) can cover all the sounds I would need to play any gig. I play in a band doing a huge variety of music, I play in church, I play in the pit orchestra for stage musicals... NEED a huge variety of tones - (saturated leads, Elvis rhythm, rockabilly, clean jazz, clean strumming, early and late Beatles... ) Similar units do well in some areas but not in all areas. I bought a Line6 PodHD500 in 2010 and have never used it live. I was expecting to use it directly into a PA system, but could NOT get the sounds I was after. (something about the word "POD" in the name led me to believe that that's what it was meant to do - go direct.) I am finding that plugging it into a power am and guitar cabs, it can really sound amazing. It's just that I bought it THINKING I was going to go direct with it. I'll play with that a little longer. It might even finally replace my BOSS GT-8 which I've been happily gigging now for 12 or so years. But this HEADRUSH thing... next time I'm looking to upgrade, it's a serious candidate. I'd be very interested in it's MIDI capabilities. Can each PATCH have it's own MIDI parameters assigned to the pedal?
I appreciate 2 brits saluting during the star spangled banner lol.
This is probably the best tones rob has had for a while on this show. Maybe because it goes straight to a computer.
I have to agree, all of these tones sound way better than when you covered HeadRush at NAMM. Maybe it was the environment, also as you mentioned, it wasn't updated/it was an early beta version. I'm looking forward to seeing Rabea's in depth review!
Well today I bought this pedal board. Thanks again for the great review, or I'm just a sucker lol

It's amazing. You can do so much and it is super user friendly
This is looking like a good alternative to the Helix for me. I'm interested in something like this for gigging, and when I saw Daniel from Pain of Salvation (Rob, you seriously need to check this band out if you haven't already! I have a feeling they'd become a desert island band for you, especially on the "The Perfect Element Pt. 1" and "Remedy Lane" albums) using a Helix at their show in Toronto, it was amazing, and it looked like such a simple rig that's incredibly versatile, but I also love how this has far less steep of a learning curve than the Helix and that's where it has a huge appeal to me. I just want something I can plug into, not spend a huge amount of time messing around, and get a decent passable tone. I wouldn't record with it. I have real amps for that. But when you're playing a bar or a small club, no one's going to care that you're using digital amp modelling, and no one's going to be able to tell the difference. And for gigs, that's where this is hugely appealing!
cabinets and amps simulations sounds ok, i would like to hear the harmonizer effect on this unit, i hope it doesnt have any of that chirpy sound that other cheap units have, it would bring this unit a step above all prevous brands and units I have tried in the past.
Please do a comparison between units such as the Helix, Headrush, Ax-fx, Kemper, BIAS! Any comparison of these would be great!
It sounds pretty good. How's it compare to the quality of the helix and the ax8?
I normally really dislike digital multi-FX, but I really enjoyed the chorus-heavy sound this thing produces. Sounds way better than the new Line Six thing.
Lee's face at 10:35 will give me nightmares
before anyone says "well you can do that if you want", yes I know I can. Just wondering why on all similar units to this the CAB/IR is always placed immediately after the amp in the signal chain, therefore before any post effects. in the real world cab & mic would be last in the chain.
Looks amazing! But that thing is huge :D
Great vid! You should do a few simple presets with this thing vs. real pedals...sweeeeet.
I love you guys
Been waiting for this!
What I really want is a multi-switchable preamp/poweramp modeller like the kemper but in pedal form so I can have my whole rig on a pedalboard but still use my analog pedals. Sometimes you just want a totally different tone for different songs so that would be cool.

Isn't that Axe AX8?
Sounds killer - I suspect there's a difficult decision ahead for me to replace my Atomic Amplifire rig. This looks ideal for my needs, but the Helix LT can currently be bought for a full £100 less.
You can change parameters with the Helix with your feet. This is not a groundbreaking development. They just made it slightly easier to access and use.
Seen a few demos on this now but, the question i have.... what sounds better ? This, or an amp with pedals.
Fast forward to 2020 and neural dsp does this exact same thing and all of a sudden its the next big thing. Shows the power of marketing! Sadly I backed out of buying a quad cortex as their delivery schedules were just absolutely messed up. Was thinking of replacing my kemper, but never again :P
would love a sound comparison between this, helix and axe FX boards. regards
I use multi effects live weekly, and I will never run any unit direct to front of house without going to into a Hughes and Kettner Redbox 5! Game changer for me and everyone who has tried it. Goes from digital to real in $99
I like the running joke in these vids "Lee: It's only $100,000. Rob: wow is that all!" lol
Did you gents share these presets ? I’d love to have them, they sound great.
3:50 Helix has had hands free editing since launch. Have they solved the two IR destroying the processing power issue yet? Routing options looks much less versatile than helix' 4 paths? I would love to see a features head to head between Helix LT and Headrush.
Awesome
I like the UI of this one better than my Helix, but I can change everything on my Variax with the touch of a button on my Helix. I can use my Variax tuned down one whole octave for bass sounds and then be playing a banjo or telecaster on the chorus of the same song, with just the push of one button. Maybe I'll get a Headrush at some point in the future, but right now my Helix is working great for what I do.
+Rob Chapman +Capt We all agree the Headrush is an intuitive/easy unit to use... but how does it sound, how does it feel? Are we talking old school digital sounds (POD, Eleven rack...)? Or does it feel organic like the newer stuff?
Trying to find a good multi effect for someone still new to guitar. Something to make learning more fun while I am picking it up. Too many random reviews. I'd rather hear from you guys. Love your work! If it's already been made can someone point me in the direction I havent seen it
that 10 second fatten-the-load stare from Rob at 6:07 😂
I'd love to see a shootout between portable batterie powered amps for those times when a plug isn't available. Thanks!
Helix does that, I remember from the vids you done with Paul, the scene is a bit like solitaire on ye old desktop windows lol. Nice concept with the touch screen but very familiar unit to the helix. Guess the sounds will define which is better
Hi Rob, would you consider replacing your pedal board with one of these? Or is this another cool all in one, but not worthy enough to ditch a stellar pedalboard?
10:30 when you just handed over the ring of power to the bad guy look.
I just bought one!

Yeah? How it work b it for you ?
Can the expression pedal do morphing, say one amp model to another? One preset to another? I'm thinking of the Fractals morphing abilities here. If this can do that...whew! Love the easy intuitive interface.
I particularly enjoyed your use of the "six cable method". Well done lads!
Yes that is best in Headrush^^
