Great video, straight and to the point with no filler.
ChrisFix just released a video in October of a 2 year/10k mile test of Bar's Leak Head Sealer and it worked very well. He also said if he had to do it again, he would have likely tried CRC Head Gasket Sealer (not in your comparison). Of course, he didn't really have a bad, damaged head gasket, but a slightly warped cylinder head (1/1000th of an inch or something), so that might have played a part. That little warping still made the car undriveable without the sealer. Finally, Scotty Kilmer had a video a couple years back that said you had to be very careful when using sodium silicate (liquid glass). If there was coolant getting into the engine oil, then the sodium silicate could ruin your engine because it would get into the actual engine and not just the gasket...

My car was running rough with loss of power and kept overheating after I changed out several components including the thermostat and temperature control module. Then I noticed a sweet smelling white vapor emitting from the tail pipe after I first got it started from a cold engine. Before it got to operating temp I opened the radiator cap and saw bubbles coming from inside the radiator which meant blown head gasket. I bought the Bars brand Head Gasket Repair and didn't have much hope. But I was pleasantly surprised that it did actually work. No more bubbles, no more steam from the tail pipe, no more over heating. This saved me thousands of dollars.

Sounds like a warped head rather than a blown gasket. I used Bars Leaks on a 600 hp Buick big block. It took 5 thermocycles (heat up and cool down) but it did work. It's a race car so I don't have many miles on it and don't know how it will perform over time but it cured the problem for a lot less work than me tearing the motor down to replace gasket
The problem with a head gasket leak is that you don't know the severity of it. That's why some products will work better than others and you will have tons of people disagreeing on which is better. Let me just say that no matter which product you use, they will only work temporarily and you can expect the "repair" to last about 5000 to 10000 miles.

I am a die hard for replacing the gasket itself. Takes alot of the headache out of it IF, it is done correctly and with care. For V engines, do a leak down test because it may only be one head. As far as the video goes, I have had various good results with KSeal. Kseal says on bottle that water to oil and oil to water leaks are NOT recommended for repair, but I used anyway and had decent results (probably short-lived). Bar leaks pellets used to work back in the day but I've only used for a radiator that was leaking at the top seam. That repair lasted about 4 months because it was on a badly maintained vehicle with additional coolant leaks.

I've tried the same bar leaks you're showing in the video and did nothing, waste of money. After a good radiator flush, I tried the blue devil pour and go and I must say it worked maybe a 70%, I mean is not overheating anymore but I can see still a bit of pressure in the hoses and very low bubbles so now i'm tempted to flush again and try the blue devil with yellow label. A close friend tried the kseal ultimate bottle and it worked but only lasted a week so that wasn't really an option for me. Thanks for your video!

Excellent video! Just how to do it. I have a 1958 Dodge D700 semi with a 354 hemi. 19k original miles, ex navy. I want to keep driving it unrestored. It puddles water on the floor under the right exhaust, but only sitting, never running, it won't use any, never in a cyl, never in the oil. There's probably a small crack in an exhaust port, probably from when the farmer I got it from who let it idle unattended for hours to circulate a nurse tank and an old hose dumped the water.. (on an early hemi the exhaust ports are almost vertical) seals when hot. I always remove pressure from it. Looks like enough of the K seal would be good to try! Aint worth a crap the way it is. What can I lose? I have other good heads, but im older and disabled now and want to enjoy it while getting the groceries! My wife loves driving it, too. Standard Bars works for a while but dissolves eventually and will plug things if you use too much. Thanks!

The impression that I got from most of them is that they are like the bars with the stuff that forms a gunky patch. The Blue devil that you have to take your thermostat out for seems to make more of a metallic braze or sloppy weld on the hole. I wonder if that would be your best bet. It's definitely more work, but when you're done you train everything out so you can rest assured that you don't have a bunch of residue running through the system clogging things afterwards. I'm not a professional mechanic, and have only used each of these once. That's my two cents.
Had a head gasket issue on my 2005 civic, wasn’t mixing with oil but was getting lot of bubbles out radiator and steam coming from reservoir. Used blue devil pour and go, poured it and let it idle for a hour, so far so good drive 100 miles so far no bubbles and no over heating. I used to have to refill radiator after a long drive but the water has remained the same

Hi, I owned and operated an air conditioning and radiator repair shop for 30 years. I opened it in 1973 and it is still open today (2023) by a former employee. Fixing things right can be guaranteed, adding stop leaks can not be guaranteed. Leaks that are flexing open and closed can not be fixed with stop leak. Also, the mechanic should be liable, not the product if something goes wrong. Stop leaks can plug up a cooling system and cause over heating and ruin an engine. I had a radiator flow tester that could tell you home many gallons per minute a radiator flowed (the radiator had to be off the car). The flow is a gravity flow with the tubes being vertical and liquid added until there is an overflow at the top tank. The flow tester has the water mixture going up a tapered glass tube with a calibrated stainless steel weight that raises up with flow. If you are a do it yourself, and want to try a stop leak, take a look at some suggestions of Scotty Kilmer. Scotty Kilmer: kzread.info/dash/bejne/jK6Zy5JplMS2ZbA.html Scotty mentions to not add stop leaks to cooling systems that are dirty. He also mentions that getting certain stop leaks in the oil can ruin the engine! Also he says certain stop leak sealers are to be used in clean cooling system with water only.
I had some kind of a leak which I had oil in my coolant,a little water in my oil, steam out the tailpipe, and black carbon iny coolant,I used bar's blown head gasket and it's been about 10 months and everything is still good.So I personally had luck with Bars

When you say drain your system do you mean drain the gas, the coolant and the oil? Do you mean power flush the radiator? Drain the gas and use Heat to get rid of the water? Let the engine sit before draining the oil so the water comes to rest on the bottom?

Did you ever see what the actual leak looked like? Question for you, as to what product and how much you think I should use. I have a 1995 Subaru 1.8L 4-CYL boxer Impreza, 177,000 miles. I have 76 and 78 PSI dry compression in #2 and 4 of one head (driver side). This started a few days ago, we noticed while on a highway trip the power was weak and I can hear it missing as the RPMs drop from driving to idle. I don't have overheating, excessive oil consumption (drippy seals, I add a quart about every 900 miles), smoking, or fluids cross contamination. I'm waiting to have a leak down and another dry/wet compression test at a different shop. The first shop only did dry compression and wasn't too bright or helpful. If I end up having a head gasket leak between those two cylinders, what products would I possibly try to mend it? It must not be too bad of a leak, whatever it is, for the compression to build to 78psi dry. The other two good cylinders are 130ish psi. If it ends up being a valve leak, what products and strength could I try to get them clean? After cleaning, I will have valve clearances checked, as it's probably never been done. Peace brother!

The one that makes you remove your thermostat seems to be the best seal. Somebody at the auto parts store showed me a picture, and it's almost like it clumps up and makes a metal seal, looking like a gritty weld. I think they're able to do a much more substantial chemical change because you take out the thermostat.

I'll let someone else answer who's more of an expert. But typically that sounds like you do have a leak where fluid is getting into the crank case. These products could seal that leak, but if it's bad it could let the product get into the crankcase.

@@mz4176 Is the coolant getting into cylinders? If so, you can try the product. It may or may not get into crankcase. It probably wont seal the leak of coolant into oil passage, but if it seals coolant to cylinder path, then you could just use motor oil instead of coolant.
Alright, I'm gambling with this video. I'm at the car store now, that are our of the one I used last time.

WHY DO THEY SAY “ IF IT OVERHEATS WITHIN 5 or 15 MINUTES DO NOT USE PRODUCT ?
@Shepherd4now

The amount of time is a way to gauge the leak size. If you are overheating in under 15 minutes the leak is too big for it to work.

Bar’s leak doesn’t work especially when you go over 60mph
If I could I would post a pic of how well this crap, the CRC green bottle , sealed my whole radiator and cost me thousands. Get it fixed right

What does this stuff do to the water pump, heating core and temperature sensors? When the gasket goes bad....It is time to open your wallet wide.
buen comentario- pero hablas muy lijero y los subtitulos se van antes de que temine de leerlos
All that time and effort with these products you could have put into researching how to do the head gasket yourself.

I know how to do the head gasket - lots of time and money. Worth trying one of these first if you don't have the time and money.

Let me borrow your tools concrete floor and a jack and I'll do it myself. My mechanic wants $3500.00. I think it's worth a shot on a $3500.00 vehicles.
Come on man. Please stop telling people this crap works. ESPECIALLY the pour-in kind. At the very least you’re going to clog up the thermostat but also the radiator. The chemical sealed kind where you drain the radiator and take out the thermostat, it’s possible to have a temporary fix. Trust me, I know. I have a leaking head gasket on a 2009 frontier and I’ve tried everything. But at some point, you have to face the fact that it’s too expensive to fix the head gasket. The only option is to buy another motor. It’s painful, but it’s just a fact.
none of it works its just temporary and mainly only a few week fix..just check the bbb on these products. the only real and permanent fix is a head gasket replacement with heads shaved. they are jus preying on your hopes
Bars is shit. Period. Anyone reporting positive reviews and results on here is likely sponsored to do so. Anyone I know with mechanical experience will tell you to steer clear.
