Swingweight : ?

The Boom serie is a new serie of Head Tennis racquet for 2022, as the Instinct serie disappears.
The Head Boom MP tennis racquet is a racquet with an intermediate level of power, easy to swing, spin friendly, comfortable and forgiving.
The Head Boom MP could suit many players.
I'd advise this tennis racquet mainly to tennis players :
- with an intermediate level
- looking for a friendly racquet, with a good level of power, just a little control side
- with a modern game or a versatile game
- looking for manoeuvrability, comfort and tolerance

I got the Head Boom MP just after Thanksgiving 2023. Was easy getting used to the way it handles. Good control , moderate power, good at slice shots & bold graphics.

Great review, so I tried it after watching your review and you are spot on for power and spin. I think I may switch to this as my new Ezone 100 2022 has too much power for me and BOOM MP seems to have better control like Ezone DR 100 but is softer on the arm.

Your reviews are truly excellent. As your level of tennis is very high, any racquet you play with actually seems perfect. The way you explain and compare about power levels between racquets is indeed very helpful. I am quite keen on the Boom MP but I wonder about the launch angle as the string pattern seem quite open. How would you compare the level of arm comfort between the Boom MP and Clash 100 V2?

@@team-tennisenglish1514 extreme tour still is not the best to me in terms of free power. I need more. Spin was excellent but it still needed full swing for depth. Current ezone 98 like current v core 98 are muted because of VDM. Hopefully new ezone 98 will be better in terms of ball connection cause the new VDM implementation on VCP 97 2021 was very good…. feel and ball connection came back. Alive again. But yonex still has not produced an excellent stick since DR line or previous VC95 2019 model…. new VCP95 21 is harsh. I suggest you try PA VS with a soft poly at 22kg….. it may still be hollow on contact but it almost does everything more than good. It has nothing in common with previous PAVS which was an uncontrollable cannon. Prestige MP too demanding….. even less power and spin from Blade V7/V8 18x20. I suggest you test v8 blade 16x19….. very easy to swing they dropped the SWs…. more free power than V7 but it lacks punch because of the low SW. It needs lead. V8 feels like a 98inch pro staff. I am still waiting to see the new strikes when they will be released…… 3rd gen has bad ball connection…. they were plush and less harsh than 2nd gen bur ball feedback was bad.

@@team-tennisenglish1514 I noticed that the Dunlop CX 200 (305g) is almost the same spec as the Head Extreme Tour (98, 65 flex, 31.5 balance), just it has a flat 21.5mm beam, rather than the 22-23-21. You may want to add that to your list. Very nice neutral feel and good maneouvrability. Probably best with a hybrid string-bed like Alu-Power x Sensation to add a bit of power.

Haven't tried the ezone 98 2022 but I'm sure it'll be less powerful, forgiving and the access to top spin will be lower. Ezone 98 for better players able to manage a heavier racquet.

Hey ! Shoulder fine, I don't regret the surgery, in fact it allowed me to play again. If you have shoulder problems, go for comfort and easy power, easy to swing. Boom MP is fine, Yonex Vcore 100, Shift is fine also, Head Speed MP, Yonex Percept 100. Boom Pro yes but more demanding.

Hi, thanks a lot for the review. I am a tennis beginner, playing for four months. I am currently using Wilson Clash. The more I play, the softer I feel about Clash. I don't know whether this feeling is correct or not: it is easier to add spin with a stiffer racket. Clash is my first racket. I am thinking about buying a stiffer racket than Clash to practice spin. Please correct me if I was wrong. And the recommendation to a second rocket is welcome.

  • @team-tennisenglish1514

    @team-tennisenglish1514

Hi ! Honestly, not sure if stiffer is better or not for top spin. The head extreme mp is not stiff but has a good access to top spin, Pure Drive is stiff and has a good access to spin also. Consider the string pattern, the space between the strings. Boom MP why not, Head Extreme, Babolat Pure Aero, Yonex VCore are other options.

@@TheodorosKolokotronis799 Not easy because it depends if you can play up to 310 grams. If so you can get more power from the Boom, which has more weight and will give more plow through. The Extreme seems hollow compared to it. But if you feel better with the weight of the extreme, you'll swing it faster and finally you'll get more power with it. I personnaly hesisate. If I'm in a good shape, Boom Pro clearly. Boom Pro extremely comfortable, special feeling with this racquet. At the same time, I don't think it is too muted and the feel remains fine. I really like the Boom Pro. I just wonder if can manage the weight on the long term.
