Head Boom 2024: In Depth Review (With Data)
This is the most in depth racket review I have created (since my Speed review a few weeks ago!), as I got tons of data from my time play testing with all 5 BOOM frames in Austria.
Let me know if you have any questions or if you have experienced playing with Auxetic 2.0 yet… personally I love it!

    What’s your opinion on using the lynx tour at 52lbs? I have the original boom with the lynx touch at 52, and have trouble with balls going long when going for a winner or when at the net. I was thinking of trying the lynx tour at 55 next restring.

    Informative review, does the speed gun measure at the same point as hawkeye/ tournament cameras? I know that's not relevant to comparing the different models in a controlled environment but just curious as those numbers are quite high.

  • @TheTennisMentor

    I believe so. They were talking about some of the Head athletes that had used it and their speeds were the same as they are on tournament cameras. I have a fairly big first serve and forehand for my size (if I do say so myself 😆)

    Currently I use a 2022 Radical MP. I'm thinking switching to the 2024 Boom MP to get a little more power on my serves and groundstrokes. Will I lose much control? On the Radical i really appreciate the steadiness on receiving heavy serves and the power and control of my one handed backhand. Also considered the Gravity MP for it's wider sweetspot and ability to control points with heavy and deep spinning shots. What's your opinion on the Boom compared to the Radical

    You might want to try one racket at a time using only that particular model for maybe a week and measure stats in the last day. Because your technique might slightly change by adjusting to each racket. And it could improve accuracy for example.

    A little off topic but have you noticed a difference playing with the black & white Speed 2024 and the Head Speed Legenf? I noticed it more especially with the MP. So much so that I’m sticking with the black & white and may sell the legend.

    Great video and a lot of work! I'm surprised you're hitting the ball so hard too as it looks effortless lol. I would love to do a racket testing day like this and get all the data. I'm trying to get an arm friendly racket, have been on the Head Instinct for a while which doesn't have lot of control, prefer the prestige feel but it doesn't have enough control against the bigger hitters. Was considering trying the boom but don't like the head speed so hummm, something to think about 🤔😁

  • @TheTennisMentor

    @TheTennisMentor

    Hey, Thanks! In my opinion they’re both great rackets for juniors and so I’d suggest demoing both. The Boom is 270g and Speed 275g (unstrung) so both lightweight and suitable for a high level junior age 10-13 depending on size. Older/stronger juniors may need something a bit heavier, like the MP.

When you were testing in Dornbirn I am guessing you might have also seen or meet my father. He is the state coach and they always practice there. A bit taller, dark skin and old. Just thinking would be funny if you met him. He has been under contract from Head since the 90s.

    A “colorway” refers to the total variety of color versions in a lineup. A specific version is simply referred to as color. If a specific version has multiple colors then it would be referred to as a color combination.

    I know that you try your best and try to replicate as much as you can every possible situation, but unfortunately if you would do the test the next day with for example less sleep, the result will be definitely different... I think we do really appreciate what you do in terms of numbers like speed and spin etc.. But sometimes I would like to hear more your thoughts without seeing the numbers, the swing is difficult to replicate 100%, different position, different ball speed and rotation from your coach.. Def much better and precise on the serve side.. More mass more speed, also I think you shouldn't try so many rackets at once 😅, too many different feelings, the mp and pro are more then enough and definitely the test will be more accurate.. Saying that I really love the video and the passion you put on it, and coming from the speed black edition I had the same doubt as you to move to the Boom pro.. How does it feel the 23 beam compare to 22, you felt more control or the fact that is not completely even and almost 21.5 on the head create some problems/advantage.. And how you feel when you move from a flat to a kick or slice in a match.. Which racket has a better transition.. Thanks in advance and great job 💪
