I'm happy to hear your sentiments. I took a long pause from pro wrestling in the last ten years and since getting back into the events this man has been the most intriguing persona I can recall since you. Mick Foley got me into pro wrestling. Bray Wyatt brought me back. I'm so sad he is gone. Thank you for your kind words Mick

2012, NXT at Full Sail. One of the first shows I show up after playing the latest WWE game where you got Husky Harris as your early game rival who is trying to get you fired from NXT. I see him standing by after the show outside next to the building and I strike up a conversation. "Oh hey! You tried getting me fired from NXT!" I say to him to catch him off guard. He looked at me for a second out of confusion before I said "In the video game." And then we both laughed over that. We chatted a little for a few minutes. He was an awesome guy, told me that they had him come in, record lines and never explained the context for the voice lines. It was an awesome time. he was a genuinely nice guy who seemed pleased to just have someone to talk to. Though the conversation was cut short since he had to get to taking the ring and pack it up. I will not forget he was so nice and so willing to talk. I moved back around the Full Sail area and I remember where we stood to talk. It's weird 11 years later, driving past Full Sail, even to the Mc Donalds next to it or cutting through campus to get to Firehouse Subs, I don't think I can ever drive past there without feeling my heart grow heavy for him.

Funniest yet best Bray Wyatt story I can give is this -- so we were watching the WWE Raw that we'd been tipped off that Daniel Bryan was probably going to be retiring that night, and seeing as Edge retired mid-show one Raw, we figured we had to watch it all. And my brother and I were not regular watchers of the product back then, so most of the show made us zone out. Then the Wyatt family came out and Bray did a promo on the state of the business, and we were hooked. We were completely captivated by his words. The funny part is that my brother -- who had dreams of wrestling for a lot longer than I'd given him credit for, so much so that one time he took an accidental fall and managed to take a bump instead by instinct that probably saved his neck, literally -- said, "Next time they're in Orlando, they're gonna cut away and cut back and there's gonna be ME in a bunny mask standing behind that guy in the sheep mask." Me: "... (laughs out loud) Seriously?" Him: "I wish! And they'll be like, 'Who are you?' and I'll be totally serious, 'The devil's new disciple. You speak the truth'." It does say something that a couple of people completely burned out on the product for years watched one promo of the man and we were 19 years old again watching the Undertaker and buying it hook, line and sinker.

'I'll never forget the line of NxT hopefuls on stage. each given a few seconds at the mic. Upon the turn of Husky Harris, he totally disregards whatever it is he is asked & in a true Wyatt Family fashion, he pears straight into the camera & says, "Did you know, that the devil wears cowboy boots?" The host was dumbfounded as he moved on to the next in line. Now, it wasn't until later on in the show as it was never verbally or visually pointed out, but as the camera pans awaybon the stage full of what will become the NxT Faction that it was Husky Harris whom indeed himself was the wearer of cowboy boots... Been a fan of Windham every since!! Whoop Whoop!!!

Bray had so much more to do. You could just tell, he would have done some really special stuff had the illness cleared and he was able to make it back. That's one of the most devastating parts is all that untapped story he wanted to tell.

The one thing that I am happy about in all this is that Bray got to come back. He got to do that promo and just be himself and see that the crowd loved him, see how much everything he had done and who he is meant to so many people. So many times when a wrestler dies suddenly, its a suicide, or they were just in the middle of doing their standard stuff in the ring, not some big run on top and, you know, maybe don't get to realize and understand how much they mean to people. But Bray got that. He got to do his new entrance, got to hear the crowd that had been desperate to see him again roar for him. He got to tell them what they meant to him. If nothing else, I hope he died knowing that, not just his own friends and family, but so, so many people all around the world loved him. And now we'll all miss him.

I still think that Bray Wyatt, The FunHouse, Fiend gimmick, with Lilly and all of that could have been one of wrestling's most incredible long term storytelling, had it been done correctly and had they not just jobbed The Fiend out right when he took off. There was so much potential there and I think its another of Vince McMahons screwups by letting that go. If they had protected The Fiend, protected his finisher....I dont know, they wasted what was probably the best storyline they have had in a decade, and what I think is the only LONG FORM storyline potential that could have ended up approaching what The Undertaker had created over his career.

You may not like Bray's work. Some may not like the horror aspect of his characters. But it cannot be denied that he was one of the most creative minds in modern wrestling and certainly the most creative of the last 10 years. May he and Terry Funk both rest in peace. 💔🕊

I thought that the wwe itself creates the characters, and the wrestler just fills the characters' shoes. In other words, everything seen and heard on screen is carefully cultivated and scripted, and the wrestler is just doing what he/she is told to do and say.

Am I in the minority to think terms like genius, legend, icon are thrown around willie nilly? Rotunda was good and had a handful of solid moments. I saw him as mostly talented but also a little too far off into the fantasy space, for lack of a better term. I was really liking his take on a Max Cady type guy. They lost me with the funhouse and fiend stuff. He was good and certainly had potential to ascend to the small club of modern greats. But that’s all he had. Died to soon to be lauded as an iconic figure or genius.

He was legend status. His ability to control the narrative and write his own storyline, his in ring ability, his mic skills, his writing talent. I'm sorry but this isn't a matter of a subjective opinion. The man was objectively one of the best in the business and he understood the psychology of the business in ways most never will

@@TheFunklin Your post is completely subjective, Funklin. If you liked what he did, it’s because you like that sort of thing. I liked his earlier presentation and thought the Fiend stuff was not worth watching.

@@ithinkaboutthings9052Well apparently most of the greatest minds in the business think that Bray was one of the best storytellers and characters they have ever seen. At that point it becomes a little less subjective, as they're probably more qualified to speak on and judge such than we are. You're in the minority here.
