- always meet at a public place, and not any public place, some place which is very crowded. - no dinner dates, clubs or movies with people I barely know. brunches in popular cafes are the way to go. - NEVER visit their house for the first few months atleast. - always tell someone about your exact whereabouts and share your live location. and let your date know that someone else knows in a subtle way. - always chat for atleast a few weeks before meeting. - before meeting, always try saying no to something, something very insignificant and trivial, without ANY explanation. something like - I don't wanna go with date idea X, why don't we go to place Y and don't give any explanation. do this for small things atleast 2-3 times and notice their reaction. if they can't understand no for a simple matter or try to pressurise you, they won't understand no for big matters either. - casually mention periods. just say "oh I had the worst cramps last night" and see their reaction. if they get all awkward like you just dropped a bomb, boy, bye. - if every ex is "crazy" it's a huge red flag. obviously ppl have bitter feelings for their ex but if they ridicule or bitch about their ex in a derogatory manner it's not cool. - if they only text you late at night it's a red flag. if they just turn every convo into a dirty one. (unless they specify that they're just looking for a hookup) - if you just wanna hookup, try doing it in a hotel or something. DONT go to a stranger's house. meet them in the lobby or something, check in TOGETHER so that someone else isn't hiding in the room before. try having casual relationships instead of just one night stands because that way you can go on a few dates first. explicitly ask about what their views on consent. ask them to define consent. if they can't give an instant answer, they don't understand it.

Wht happened to kulfi di was really sad. A small confession, I was raped in late 2017. I was 21 then. For many months I was in denial that I was even raped. Because I felt that I was also to be blamed for that. Bt I guess I was not. So, one day a guy messaged me in a social media platform.. I started chatting with him and he was very sweet and flattering... So we met for a few times and finally I agreed to have a drink with him. So we went to his apartment had a few drinks. And a little later some of his friends (about 10 to 15) visited the apartment. I was really uncomfortable so I said that I would like to go. So, he offered me some water so that I become sober. Bt he had mixed something in the water. I fell asleep there. And he took me to his room and raped me. While being raped, I was faintly conscious bt I was not able to move a little bit on my own. Then, when he was done, he left the room and one of his friends entered the room and then he raped me. There was blood everywhere. It was my blood. After that he left and another guy entered the room and guess what, it was even worse than the previous ones. This one penetrated me from behind and it was the most tramatic experience I have ever had in my life. It was very very very painful. He bit my face, neck, shoulder, boobs, stomach , I had those marks on my body for months. It was brutal and I was helpless. I was screaming and crying with pain bt it was of no help. And by the time the next one got into the room I was a little more conscious and I was resisting... I tried to run out of the room... Bt IT WAS LOCKED FROM OUTSIDE.!!! And he also raped me. And I was lying down on the floor exhausted, crying and in pain. I had no idea how long I was in the place and when finally I was able to get up, I found the door of the room open, I went out side and found just one guy sitting there. He was some new guy, I hadn't seen him. He came up to me running and hurriedly told me to get out of the house before anybody else comes. He took me downstairs, sat me up on his bike and took me to the bus stand to be able to go to wherever I needed to. And he left. I had to cover my whole face to hide those bruises. My whole body was shaking and I just needed to go to my home. I was scared to death. I somehow managed to get to my home and I was sick for about three weeks. And the bruises were there for months and I am still struggling to leave my past behind. I couldn't tell anything to anyone in my family. Don't ask me why. Bt I couldn't. I stopped using social media at all for a year. That guy called me several times but.. I didn't attend any of his calls. It was tramatic.

My dear that sounds very very traumatic. If you are scared to tell your family, if you are sacred to tell the police, at least find a psychotherapist online and go have a few sessions with them. If you are scared to meet a therapist in person, please find someone to do online counselling for you. But please speak to somebody. Please please do. You deserve help. You need help.

The problem is Indian men do not understand consent, or should i say they do not want to understand consent. And Indian men do not understand dating concept too. They think girls on tinder are there because they do not have any issue with tharki pan of men. Tinder is not wrong per se, but Tinder with Indian men can really go wrong. Disclaimer : not all Indian men are bad, i am talking about tharki ones, 🙄 everytime ye "not all men" mention karna padta hai kyuki men gets offended by these things, instead they should be offended when such things happens to fellow Indian women and should try making changes in fellow men's mindset. But nahi, they will be like, stop generalising and all. Instead of seeing the actual problem.

Hey 1st of all I really want to thank prachi for this series where ppl can share their experience to save other girls or women or to spread awareness for safety! And I am happy that kulfi is fine now and I hope many ppl take this thing serious and take measure to prevent this happening to them by taking pepperspray, shouting, or just simply seek for help anyway but here one thing shocked me that ppl didn't help .. ppl should help whenever another person needs it's our duty .. just ask them is there any help they need or is everything fine even if we don't know each other in these types of cases.

Prachi you are so mature , so happy to see someone like you counseling and creating a safe space for others to share! For all GIRLS - please stay safe and be careful don’t try to be too adventurous . Be alert and always go in public place and never ever make the mistake of going to someone’s personal home ! Make sure it’s daytime date and let others say you are backward or too old school

I don’t mean to sound condescending, but tinder is not safe. These days we Indians try to imitate the western culture but many of our men are very desperate . Also they assume that women sign up on dating sites because ‘they want it’. One time a guy ( my best friend’ s hubby ) wanted to invite me for a party,he really wanted me to meet all his friends. He said the party starts at midnight and then he will book a cab for me so I can reach home by morning. But I am very skeptical about traveling by a cab that late. We have already heard news about rapes by cab drivers. So I denied and left for home early. We must be realistic about the situation in our country and then try to act modern . I know he must be thinking I am so prude and boring but I don’t care at all. I think he is stupid to ask me to take a cab so late just to be able to enjoy a party.

alwys listen to the gut feeling. u did right. I was travelling through e rikshaw to the college.. never i have i ever felt so insecured that day. it was diffrnt . my gut feeling was telling me to get out of the erikshaw at the middle of the road. coz the driver picked 3 same looking shabby drunked men at the middle of the route. which was weird i was uncmftble. ( although i have been travelling from e rikshaw since 2 years). I left the erikshaw in between . coz my gut feeling knew it is unsafe

Meet at public place if you are going to meet a stranger, dont give them any chance to have advantage of you. And also make sure you tell someone about it, your friend, sister,brother, male friend, female friend,mentor, anyone, and make sure they are keeping track of you, just to know if everything is going alright, maybe text every 15 mins, or so. Please dont risk you life for love of a stranger people. Its not worth it.

Prachi is doing a good job bringing up the sensible aspects of cautionary life. First few "dates" or "meet ups" should be in a place where there are people around with enough privacy. Movie setting may not be ideal. You never know if you are dealing with a beast or real "purush" or real "sthree". Some of the ancient wisdom should be practically applied in the modern era without completely discounting it. Keep up with the good work Prachi!!

May be some people in police judge you, but it doesn't mean you are wrong....this guy was danger and can do this to another women as well...I Know you are 34 and must be way more sensible and smarter than me....but just remember it was not your fault....no one deserves to be treated like this for being on tinder...they may judge you but not let their judgment affect your Justice and your rights.

Thanks for the support. :) Though, I do want to point out...it's not scripted. The stories I pick up are not even close to the most traumatic ones that I get...because sometimes they are too disturbing for social media. Such is life, for some people it's a reality, for others it seems to eggagerated to even be true! I do edit the letters though, to shorten them for the videos :)

FYI sir, please note the many factors that come into picture when you claim such things. Like for example that our elders tell us to marry a man that earns more than us because of many reasons. 1. They want their daughter to stay well/be supported and not have to worry. 2. Women earning more means it undermines the man. But leaving that aside, I'm not entirely sure about the situation of wage gap, however, it has happened in my situation. A male colleague of mine is earning a little more than me at the moment. Plus women have to also take care of the kids. Also women nowadays don't try to go for men based on their income, however, you definitely do not want to settle for someone way poorer than you. Anyone who marries someone just for their money really is a gold digger.
