Unfortunately to say, when a turtle that young has that many barnacles on it, it means there is a more serious underlying problem. He’s most likely sick and won’t make it anyways, but it’s never bad to try and help to see if he can pull through.

You're half right -it does mean there's something wrong, but the turtie isnt sick - the people filming it are. People realised the original legitimate videos with larger turtles being scraped of debris were pulling in millions of views which equals many thousands of dollars in ad sense revenue. So there's now a cotrage industry in fake rescue videos where these heroes 🙄 glue crap onto the turtle's shell first before filming themselves removing it. Google it - its a real thing

But with however far out this guy was, he may have not had any easy way to carry him, he may have thought that he couldn’t live without being in water for too long, but either way, the little guy ended up living to fight another day, is there much else the turtle could’ve asked for?

*Sorry but my understanding is when turtles look like that they’re already sick. If you see a turtle like this- don’t do this!* Instead call dnr or a local rescue agency and try to pinpoint its location. Algae and stuff is able to grow on them because they cannot submerge (often called bubble butt) which prevents them from feeding right and exhausts them. Even if you remove all of the stuff (which you shouldn’t do because it causes pain for the turtle-they have nerve endings on their shells), it won’t solve the underlying issue of not being able to submerge right. You can see it in the video- a turtle would naturally submerge to run away from a scary creature at the top of the water, but the turtle can’t. It just bobs away to the best of its ability. Not trying to be a buzzkill tho I suppose I am, just trying to tell people what actually to do in this situation.
