He’s the Most Licensed Artist in History
Chances are you’ve seen Romero Britto’s joyful, colorful works of art even if you don’t know him by name. He’s the most licensed artist in history, and his art is everywhere. Exhibited in museums, train stations and hotels. Featured at sporting events like the Super Bowl and the FIFA World Cup. Displayed on vodka bottles, luggage, sneakers, watches and even bananas. The artist has come a long way from his humble roots in Brazil. We visit Britto at his Miami studio to learn more about his process and why he makes his art available for everyone.

Most licensed doesn't mean being famous or well-known as "the artist". You can't deny that his art style is somewhat familiar to most of the people though (despite not knowing who the artist is).

no, his art looks like him
it's insane because growing up in miami, he was an artist that was mentioned in my elementary art class and we even did a drawing/painting inspired by his art and my carry on luggage had his iconic art style on it so i thought everyone knew about him!!
So this is what its like when the artist owns the company, and not the other way around.
bro I live in Miami and this guy's art is legit everywhere, I also went to the Miami children's museum school which they showed at 2:40 :D

@@aus-li I'm not sure if this is what baguette means, but another way to think about it is proportions and realism. In most, if not all art mediums, you must first learn realism in order to master a cartoon style so you can get proportions correct and also realistic aspects of characters. You can see that some of the work this guy has done features portraits of people with a cartoon look overlayed over them, and to get those right he would have to learn about the human body, which is (arguably) harder than cartoon styles.
@aus-li
5 жыл бұрын
EpicN Cartoons are the exact opposite of realism. You can do whatever you want and don’t have to follow any rules with anatomy. That’s why cartoons are more sophisticated than anatomy, you’re mimicking movements that would be identical to humans. I do agree that learning anatomy can be hard, especially if you wanna be detailed. As a comic artist myself, I trace myself doing poses, so it’s easier altogether. But this dude is being simplistic as possible and not doing highly defined work, so what you’re saying doesn’t apply to his style.

Alright.. to the people who haven't heard of him. He's well known in Brazil, my native country. Most people have a love/hate relationship to his artwork, there's really not much in between, kinda lika Keith Haring had ("had" being the key word here) back in the day. Back in the 90's he did a lot of depictions of dance and that, allied with his simple dynamic style, captivated a lot of people (my sister still has a 3000 pieces jigsaw puzzle of his iconic dancing couple, and she was a kid at the time). "Serious" artists questioned the banalization of "art", What were his merits? It looked a lot like grafitti, street art, something that appealed to the simplest desires, intense colours drawing attention to nothing in particular.. but.. his art persevered. One of my idols despised him. A dear friend of mine loved him. As for me.. I kinda like him.. he brought.. questioning to the art world, at least 'round here. What is art really? Who gets to decide? You can draw a parallel with pop music if you will. I'm not a fan myself, but when it's done with care, I can marvel with it.

I live in Miami and his art is literally everywhere here!!
I have a picture of my grandmother with him! Were fans of his art work and she went to an art show where he was and he sold some of his works. The bought a piece and he doodled all over the frame of the piece for her, it was awesome! Today it hangs proudly in my living room 😊
Romero, those plain knee socks... design socks, if you don't already.
I remembered his art at Miami Beach Florida Fifth & and Alton shopping complex, cute. Never knew about him until see it in Great Big Story :)
I know this is about fun and all... he is amazing!! ... this still made my cry :/
I love Romero’s art . He is truly my favorite artist I’ve ever seen and I wish I could meet him one day . I would love to be taught how to make art like his , it’s just so unique and amazing.
_“..bananas”_ That’s what I call success.
I love his work. I have several pieces, including one he did just for me. Such an honor. And he’s a wonderful person as well!
EXCELLENT VIDEO!!! I have seen his work around for many years. So nice to learn more about him. THANKS very much :)!!!!
my take on how his art is so easy to digest and enjoyed by many people is that his technique and imagination stays true to basic principle of a growing child such as bright contrasting colors, mixed patterns, and random dots and lines. looking at his art really reminds me of my child self trying to figuring out my own imagination.
Love his car....he should come to san Francisco. We need him at bland bart stations.

I knew about him thanks to Black Jaguar White Tiger, he made a gorgeous piece of art for them honoring one of the first lions that were rescued and he's friends with the owner of the sanctuary. I wish I could buy some of his stuff.
I've decided to come back here, after i saw a badass lady smashed his sculpture lmao.

He reminds me of mr.doodle. also i appreciate their art. So many people say that its not art and they can do it but then they say except for the circles. Which is most of the art. I just appreciate how they can draw lines perfectly with no trouble

A few years ago his art became really popular in Puerto Rico. I remember seeing it everywhere, from purses to shirts and jewelry
I had no idea who was behind all that artwork I’ve seen throughout my life. It’s nice, it’s colorful, it’s pop. I don’t understand why some people are hating/saying that because he’s commercial it’s not art.
What a lovely person
All different works of art, but still instantly recognizable.
In every general arts class you learn about this man.
I've been teaching my students about him as they always want to know about a famous living artist. We enjoy his pop mixed with cubism art work and I will continue to feature his work in my classes.
How cool!
this is really inspiring
His art looked very familiar and I remember I got a britto wallet years ago. Loved the art design, I have seen britto at a store in an airport while in Mexico and during a cruise another time. I guess I mainly see it outside the U.S. even though his work is done in florida.
great guy!
I have never seen his art or heard of him till now . The more you know .
*looks so simple yet so hard*
"I just don't want my art to be enjoyed by the elite of the world" Never known him before but I really loved his creations I even bought a bag and a notebook. If you're from the Philippines you've probably seen notebooks/bags in National Bookstore..Idk if it was for real or just an inspiration though..
