He's 2, she's about to turn 100. They've formed a friendship across a backyard fence you have to see

"Cane Ball" is one of the made up games 2-year-old Benjamin Olson and 99-year-old Mary O'Neill play across their backyard fences. The two became best friends when both were stuck at home during the pandemic and still play nearly every day.

My boys have a relationship with our neighbor, who's in her 90s. She used to bake for them every week until she got sick. She still does but not as often. Every time they see her in the yard, they be yelling out to her. She's hard of hearing so u know how that goes. She puts their photos on her fridge and tell her company those are her grandsons.

This reminds me a lot of a neighbour I used to have as a very young kid. She was in her 90s and had no family that lived near her, and while I don’t remember how it happened exactly, me and her became really close friends despite our age difference and she was also like the grandmother I never had as I lived in a very toxic family and only met my grandparents a handful of times. I used to bring her flowers and rocks from my backyard as a gift and in the summers I would go swimming in her pool and she would always bake cookies and bring me lemonade. I also used to help her clean her house and do other chores like walking her dog. She was always there for me when my parents fought and when I was having problems at school. She was an amazing woman and I’ve never met anyone as caring and loving as she was all these years later. She sadly passed away exactly one week before my 10th birthday but I will never forget her. It is wonderful that Mary & Benjamin have each other. ❤❤

They taught me cards, dominos, music, current events, etc... They shared their life stories and listened to mine. They bought me school supplies and shoes. I wouldn't have thrived if it wasn't for these cotton candy haired lovely people! All children should be so blessed to form a bond like these two sweeties! ❤

In England there was a study done a year or so ago - and documented for television - taking children under five into nursing homes where many wonderful friendships were soon formed between the children and the elderly. Medically it turned out to be very physically healthy for the old folks as they were energized by the kids, and mentally the children benefitted from the special interest taken in them. Win/Win. Need more of these kinds of programs for sure!

What’s important is that she was lonely as well as the child, and they formed a friendship out of a need that turned into a healthy, beautiful relationship. The lesson is that children, are the future and should be seen and appreciated, and the elderly have wisdom, and the time to share it. ❤

"Friends are the family that you make for yourself." None of my grandparents or other extended family lived near our family until one grandmother briefly lived three miles away. So I adopted a grandmother from our village church. She taught me what I call "the friendship habit". Written on a figurine above her kitchen sink were these words: "Make new friends. Keep the old. One is silver, The other gold." No friendship is "unlikely". And as I say, "The bonds of friendship can never be broken."

This is beautiful. It made my heart full. My neighbor had a granddaughter that they (the mother and grandmother) taught to humiliate me, and ask obnoxious intrusive questions that were way beyond her three years, regarding my condition. I barely go outside anymore. Those are good parents and he is a wonderful little boy.

I 73. When I was a child there was an oldman who lived acrossed the street. Pete. There wasn't a kid in the neighborhood that didn't like him. He was crusty, and liked his drink when his monthly check came. He came of age on ships of sail in the merchant marines. At 80 years old he knock out two cops in a fight in his front yard. He was a genuine badass. But when we saw old Pete we ran to him, we hug him, we loved him, and sometimes he had candy. But if he was broke he would tell you in his broken English" No money, no funny, no bubble gum. We loved him. We would give him a birthday party every year on his birthday, 28th of June. Ice cream and cake. We paid for it all with no help from adults. For us boys he was our hero. We all wanted to grow up to be like him. Sadly I left to go to war, and he died while I was away. He was 97 when he passed. I've stood at his grave on June 28th , and I cried like a baby.

I had a similar experience with two older grandmothers who lived next door, and across the street when I was growing up. I still have a crocheted vest one of them made for me, and I'm in my mid 60's now. I still remember them, and apparently, they cried the day we moved away (when I was 5).

I Met A Little Boy Named Noah at a restaurant as the covid-19 pandemic allowed restaurants to reopen. OMG, little boy Noah was so happy to be there, to be outside. He was the personification of how I felt. If anybody needed a ketchup or a spoon or a straw, he would run back and forth across the restaurant to get each item one at a time.. LoL,We played peek-a-boo and talked to each other until it was time for his family to leave. *Noah Said Goodbye To Me & Opened Both His Arms For Us To Hug, 3 Times*. He Made Me So Happy. He was a little white child & I, a black woman.

Old people are so important to children and families. They have so much to give. Why did people suddenly start to view old people as a nuisance? Why all that negativity towards them? PS If I had a grandmother of that age I would move there to help.
