The world needs a final Rodney vs daewon
Wow, I remember riding bmx back in the day in the south bay and we would run into this guy all the time at the local skateparks! Cool ass dude, very humble and always had good vibes. When he would pull up to the skatepark we'd all get out of his way and just watch him and his buddies SHRED!!! I really miss those days man...
Bruh i met daewon in person at my job at universal studios hollywood and it was the coolest moment in my life cuz instantly recognized him even in the dark all the celebs and actor i seen and even talked to meeeting daewon face to face randomly at your job as a skateboarder was the coolest moments in my life
It's cool that he mentioned the dream thing. I used to really struggle with even riding the board when I first started (due to club foot and a weak left leg). Then one night I had a dream where everything felt super natural and suddenly made sense. When I woke up I still felt that way and improved an insane amount literally over night. This is the first time I've heard of someone having a similar experience.

Dreams are like software updates for the brain, I haven't had this experience specifically but I've solved math problems I was struggling with in my dreams, programming issues, thought of where to look for something I lost and found it, it's crazy

I used to bmx in high school like 15 years ago. I still have dreams where I’m hopping up curves, and jamming down hills with hella wind in my face. It’s one of the things I’m glad my brain remembers.

My friend got trench foot. You need to stop complaining, this young generation needs to man up.
@GMlilEASTSIDEcharlie

This happens to me and they used to be “nightmares” id have a dream doing something that I did everyday, playing certain games, skating, warehouse work, mechanic work, these dreams felt like nightmares at first because other people described them as nightmares for example. My boss would always complain about having dreams that his room was full of boxes from work…. Over time having these dreams more and more made me feel “at home” with situations that were difficult or stressful.. this really helped with driving cars

@@GardenGuy1943 Sorry to hear about your friend, man. I'm sure trench foot is much worse than anything I've got going on. I was just explaining why it was difficult for me to start my boarding journey. My left leg and foot didn't develop properly and before I started practicing I could barely balance on it or even move my foot very much. I used skateboarding specifically to "man up" as you say and strengthen it. It was a brilliant success. Since then I can do things with my left foot that I never thought I'd be able to. Anyways I hope you're having a good day, brother. Peace and love! ✌️😁
I’m glad he addressed Matt Rodriguez been telling kids for a min about this dude on how he pioneered the loose cruiser tech steeze ❤

underrated? Daewon is Legend
Daewon is such an inspirational dude. When I was a kid, maybe 10 or 11 I remember watching him kill it in Rodney Mullen vs Daewon Song and being in awe of what he could do on a board. The technical tricks this guy would do on stacked picnic tables and picnic tables stacked on the edges of rooftops and whatnot. He was incredible. Now I’m 35 and haven’t been on a board in many years but I still come across this guy on Instagram. Watching someone that has at least a good ten or fifteen years on me in age yet continued pushing himself athletically in a sport I gave up a long time ago is really inspiring.
As a kid I always figured that Daewon was just so good that he had to skate without bushings to even feel challenged
I always go back to watching Daewon's Cheese & Crackers. He could make the most creative videos!
My guy really said he was a truck chef. 7:54 I'm actually dying laughing. What a legend.

Grind King was such a big deal back in the day. Every kid I knew had them and swore they were going to grind through to the king pin to get the 'money back guarantee'. Not one of us did it, but we thought we were so cool...And we were. Good times. 🤪

Me and Jeff LeBarron went filming w Dae at a school where he was kickflipping a huge roof to container, during the Artafact days, and seeing his trucks looking like they did I was awe struck and realized that this dude is not from this planet. Much love Daewon and Jeff ! Legends forever
I was at that tour in Australia, black label vs deca. Never forget daewon doing 360 flips to fakie on the quarter pipe, and Dustin shredding the flat bar. Kuraby skate park

I love Daewon!!! Been a fan since him vs Rodney Mullen days…Daewon is the GOAT!!!!
Great interview. One of the greats with a cool attitude! Thanks guys!
So chill and an absolute legend
I remember hearing about this back in the day, Daewon is an absolute LEGEND!
Met daewon at ayala park here in chino. Super chill dude.
Love Daewon- fucking legend and a great conversation to boot.
I used to know this guy named Sam who skated at my local park and he is the only person I’ve known who had super lose trucks just like daewons. It was like a novelty at the park kids would always try to ride his board and trip out on it and he would try to get people to drop in on it 😂 it was like a 9 inch old school board with crazy loose rattling trucks and he could kill vert on it like nobody’s business
I was at that demo ... Kuraby skatepark ,We all watched him take his rubbers out and he friggin killed it ... Never forget that day ... Mike valley did a kickflip something over the hip 😮 mind blown
I like how he ignores Rob’s interruptions haha. More should do that
Everyones reminder that Almost "Cheese and Crackers" is still one of the best skate videos ever.
I kept yelling "Tensor Trucks" the whole time they were guessing his trucks. Daewon, thanks for everything you do!
yo daewon was always a legend to me his style is unmatched steezy guy on and off the board
Rodney, haslam and daewon are the 3 best skaters on the planet to me. Almost back in the early 2000s was the fucking team putting everyone to shame
This was such a cool cast
Omgg it’s sooo much funnn doing Darwin’s truck thing kickflips are amazing
The videos we would see as kids and want to be! A true legend for real..
I had a pair of Orion trucks back in the early 2000s. They ended up becoming Frankentrucks, when the hangers or baseplates broke. Idk what it was but we used to break, a lot of trucks, back in the day. I never broke an Indy but I've broken Orions, Ventures, Grind Kings, and a few other trucks. I was jumping down huge drops and didn't do much grinding...most of the trucks I broke weren't even degraded by use. Haven't broke a truck like that in 15 years, luckily...
Daewon has inspired me since i was 13. First time i saw him skate in I.E. blew my mind. He's the man
So amazing, remember growing up skating and when Rodney Mullen VS Deaeon Song prt.#1 & prt.#2 came out.... It blew my mind, another VHS I wore out from rewinding so many times
I love how t puds was drinking his beer out of the coffee cup so discreetly. Lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Has been my favorite skater since the early 90s and still to this day!!!!
grind kings you always had to carry the tool!
didnt expect that 🔥
Daewon is the absolute GOAT And somehow hasn’t aged
I really enjoy the fact that this podcast exists.
I always wondered about his loose front truck, reminded me of a surf skate with the different truck at the front. I love surfy movements and always have a very loose front truck with a tighter back
'Truck Chef' so good! excellent DW!
I feel Daewon on trying to get your trucks exactly how you like them. Switching trucks can be a nightmare.
What a legend 🤘
Do a board setup video with him!
Thanks for this !
I had some Grind King camouflage “self loosening” trucks on my first decent setup. They had an Allen key hole to tighten the kingpin and i couldn’t wait to get rid of them.
I remember the ads for Z-rollers ,but never had a set. Way back I did skate G&S trucks for years which were quite different. I did it mostly because once I wore a set out or broke one I could send them back and get a new one. The allen head reverse Kingpins were a good Idea that I liked so these days I using a set of Low Krux with that same allen head reverse kingpin. I was on Thunders and then Destructos for a Long time, but the axles slipped bad which was annoying. Really loose trucks has always been my preference too because I think it gives you more control. Those Gullwings with that groove for grinding were dangerous. I actually got to skate with Daewon at the Denver park for a couple of minutes a long long time ago.
This had me laughing more than I expected!😅
Daewon is super cool. Legend. I hope he starts a KZread channel, I would definitely watch.
I always forget how soft his voice is. Dude is an absolute animal. A true GOAT in the sport
I remember being a kid watching his cheese and crackers part he was my fav skater
same here , feels great
My favorite skateboarder to hear talk I could listen to him for hours
Sick seeing a famous Houston spot pop up (the Matt Rodriquez segment). EPIC!!
Those gulwings look exactly like the ones I had back in the day, Gulwing Flyweights in fluro yellow, Still have them on the old Smallroom board in the shed somewhere though the aluminium has corroded to heck last I saw and the enamel(?) coating come away a lot. They have the grindking kingpins on but I never had any issues with those loosening up as Daewon describes.
I love how the title is actually the introduction to the video and gets right to it. I will like and subscribe solely for no click bait.
Best set of trucks I’ve ever had were a Jerry rigged venture base and a krux top. My complete was stolen and I was able to cobble together old trucks I had laying around. Rode those for years and had such a good groove worn into them from grinding.
Once saw daewon skating in Santa Fe springs on my lunch break never been so amazed over how fast he can manual
The clip of mat rattling his board back around for another run up and then landing in a clip I always laugh I remember that
"Shaving the bush!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Daewon is a god among men 🙌 Any remember the Z-Roller blank decks they sold in the early 90s? Nice shapes.
What a legend
Legend
Daewan Song a wonderful being!
You gotta be a real OG to know about the Z-Rollers! I never had a pair, but I saw the ads in Thrasher back in the 80's and I was just always so confused by them. I was mostly skating vert back then and they just looked like they'd be suicide. A lot of ramps back then had PVC coping, which was already dangerous as hell.
That's wild lol
There are bushings on different shapes and duros and flat washers and cup washers to tune the trucks how ever you feel or you weight! If you like a sloppy front truck, use slalom bushings ,double cone on the front, harder duro on board side and softer one on the road side! There,it would feel almost like a Carver skateboard! And the name of the trucks were the Gullwing Sidwinders II!
Daewon's mad funny

I remember reading about this in an interview back in the day and always thought it was insane
Meet him at the skate park I was skating a fun box nolie front nose I was popping so high he asked if it was fakie gave me props man that was so dope. Guy just ripped it so nice
