As a New Adventures fan, I am disappointed we didn't get more of their line up as well, but I get the reasoning why. At the same time, despite the mistakes over the years, Classics is still arguably one of the best toy lines to have been produced. If Songster had somehow made it to production, then it would have been perfect, but it is still close.

The one thing that really bothered me with MOTUC was distribution. I'm Italian and, generally speaking, in Europe there is a huge MOTU fanbase: import taxes and duties were killing us all the time! There are plenty Mattel subsidiaries in Europe, I wish one of them was used to distribute MOTUC without letting fans pay 100% of the import taxes and duties on each item.

The real problem with Blade is that his movie sword was painted red. It was a mistake since in the movie isn't painted red but it was painted red when it was reused in another movie. I and few fans pointed out this mistake but nobody answered back because it was too late!

@@WhateverHappenedToFun ya a lot of the problems with MOTUC were because they'd show us the toy when it was too late. Like i understand it takes a year or more to get the toy made, but, once you have a sculpt and paint apps you're okay with, THEN show the fans. The way it was done, they would surprise us with a toy we had already bought with our sub, and that feels like a kick in the teeth.

Excellent video as always Scott. My biggest regret is that I got into the Classics line way too late, around 2016. By that time the Mattel part of the line was finishing up and Super7 took over. Was into Transformers then. Thankfully I have most of what I wanted by the secondary market but still a ways to go yet. You guys did an absolutely amazing job on the Classics line and so happy Mattel is bringing MOTU back.

Even though I'm in a better place now financially, I wouldn't have the space for all of them. Even now with origins and Masterverse- it's cotto see them at the store, but there's no wTid have room to purchase them al.

Completely with you on Leech. One of my biggest disappointments in the line. Leech was my favourite as a kid because he was so big and bulky, and the Classics figure just didn’t capture that. I didn’t care about reversed shoulders or small missing paint decos or things that could be fixed with a little customising, but Leech should have been a fully new tool. Even if he had to be sold as a deluxe figure.

Cool video! Thank you! Really, the only two big annoyances I had with MOTU Classics were: 1) it didn't last another 10 years, so we could get characters like Dragoon, Melaktha, Kothos, Tuvar, Baddhra, etc, get some more vehicles, and round out the playsets; and 2) that the last few items were extremely limited stinking convention exclusives and their asking price is now more than their weight in freakin' opals. One of the things I LOVED about MOTU Classics was how accessible it was. It's so incredibly rare that a line offers ALL its products to anyone outside the USA and Canada. I was able to sit at home, in England, and have all these great MOTU Classics things arrive right on my doorstep. Magnificent! Furthermore, except where Power-Con was involved, MOTU Classics had the easiest-to-get exclusives of any line I ever collected. Couldn't make it to a convention? No biggie -- just wait a week or two, and you'd be able to get those figures off MattyCollector (provided Digital River had the site functioning on the two days a month it actually needed to be). Finally: just realised at the 5:24 mark that the He-Man in that box art looks uncannily like Marc Singer. "Beast Master" figures, anyone . . . ?

My biggest regret was not being able to get Snake Mountain. I had it on pre-order, then Covid happened and my job went away. I couldn't justify spending that much on something I didn't "need". (I joked that if Snake Mountain showed up on our doorstep, my wife would make me live in it!) To this day, it's my "one that got away"... As for MOTUC, the one thing I will hold against you, Mr. Brand Manager, was not finishing NA. I understand they weren't a priority, and I understand they weren't well-liked, and I know they didn't sell well. But I found a new appreciation for NA through Classics and I wish we could have finished that line. Oh well.

I agree. I know I might be in the minority, but I love the movie and the movie figures we got in the line. I literally thank God we got movie versions of He-Man and two movie versions of Skeletor. I've wanted figures of them ever since I first saw the movie as a kid in the 80s. Never thought I'd see the day. Of course I was happy to get Gwildor, Karg, Blade and Saurod as well, but with the exception of Karg, we have seen figures of the others in the original line so they were kinda expected. I would have loved to have gotten movie versions of Man-At-Arms Teela, Evil-Lyn, Beastman, The Sorceress and even Skeletor's storm troopers, but I'm happy with what we did get. The Masterverse line is releasing a movie He-Man and Skeletor, but I don't think they look as good as the ones mentioned above.

With Stratos it wasn't so much that the wings were glued in place, it's that they were glued in the wrong place, so the wings didn't sit right. I spent like an hour messing with those to break the glue and move them into proper position. I wouldn't mind naked stratos in Origins if they'd matched the comic better with the "necklace/scarf". I like that, i'm assuming, fan made head on leech that looked more leech like, then the ones with the ridiculously large teeth that look for like an alligator.

I think the QC issue(s) is probably what upset most fans, because no1 wants to pay & get a "defective" item. I guess I'm lucky I got into the line much later, so that didn't effect me, much. Other than that, the line up of released characters was pretty good, especially the POP. Most of us MOTU fans didn't really like the 'New Adv' show, so it's obvious why that line didn't sell too well (at least we got Mara & Crita figs). I'm just glad I could collect improved versions of toys from my childhood (most of which I never got growing up, because of finances and/or my parents not wanting their sons to play w/ female figures, because they said they were "girls toys", although they were in a boys' toyline).

I agree about leech.but I understand about tooling for him would've been problematic.I think if made as he was intended he'd be as big as Ram man or Tuskador with the 200x version of the head added because I like that sculpt of his head.I agree on getting she ra out earlier but glad we got them.i do think something got lost in translation on Frosta as I think her hair was to be light blue and her cape was to be clear blue plastic but it was the opposite on that figure.my only real disappointments with the line over all were as I said earlier how the unnamed one turned out,I wanted Angella to look more like her toy because I liked her with that long strawberry blonde hair , and that the create a character contest should've had a best male and best female category(but that one is just for personal reasons :))

I agree with you about Leech. In Classics and Origins his limbs look too thin and it throws the figure off. The Rock people all disappointed me. With the rock armor on it's far too big and makes them immovable yet still doesn't give them the ability to turn into rocks without another massive bit of plastic kibble anyway so all seems pointless. They'd have been better with smaller rock parts to attack to their arms and legs which look good and make them still posable.

I don't know if you'll ever see this Scott and that's fine but I have to tell you that no matter what, no matter the negativity from the toxic fans, the bitching and tantrums, overall, NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE can ever say you didn't do an excellent job on the line. Yes, it wasn't you alone, but you were one of the main ones. You gave fans a line that an entire department had given back in the eighties, with a cartoon and comics to support it. You gave us an online only toy line at a very good price (were people complaining about a $20 figure), shipped quite cheaply, at least at the start, and gave us the widest array of figures ever, surpassing the original line. You should be very proud. I'm collectively sorry (although I wasn't really part of it) about the bitching and tantrums that came your way, and I'm sorry it ended before it needed to. I'm not sure anyone realises just how amazing the entire line (quality and all) was, especially given what we're getting now - such a hodge podge of styles.

Made in Hong Kong. Its about same size or taller than Star Wars. Has Glow in Dark Belt along with soft white head that can squeeze with like monster face or Devil Alien with horns. Its in a brown outfit with limited articulation where arms go up down and legs. I know I melted Green or Blue one if not both trying to charge them near a lamp. I'm sure of the first 3 digits 197. I don't have any MotU Classics figures, I'm sorry to say, but I look at photos online. From what I've read, there are two versions of Sorceress: Mattel's and Super7's, and frankly, it doesn't look like either version does her justice. The S7 has a better facial sculpt, but is shorter than Mattel's. Then there's the wing situation. Sorceress did not have wings, she had a cloak that looked like wings, and yet neither company thought to give her one. Sheesh.

Yes, 'em Leech thighs! And non-working suction cups :[ to be fair, the weight of the Classics figure would not have made working suction cups really possible. Almost wanted to pull the trigger on the Origins version for getting the suction feature in, but just couldn't get past the thigh aesthetic which is even worse than the Classics silhouette, and it's such a pity since the hollow nature of the design meant that it could accommodate the physics of gravity. I'd like to think that it's just the skinny pre-energy-draining version of Leech, but ugh, form vs function vs finance, always such a tricky balance.

I do think if there had been a "slim buck", it would have prompted you all to dive a bit deeper into NA to justify tooling costs, and it would have been beneficial to so many figures with the decreased mass. There is so much cool armor and weapons on Hydron and Flipshot that end up looking just insanely bulky in a display that in context they don't fit in with that. But it was 10 years ago now, no going back. I think having POP early on would have been beneficial as well but SO MANY people expressed their desire about needing to complete the vintage figures that it force your all's hands. And that's fine. but SLIM BUCK would have fixed a lot of issues I feel

My greatest regret with MOTU Classics, with all my collecting, is never buying them! No I'm serious, I'm a huge MOTU fan but I live in the UK, I collected the 200X line because they were on sale in stores locally, then the Classics were released and at the time I had no money to spare and by the time I was able to afford collecting again the line had moved so far it was impossible to catch up, also you guys would pay for shipping within the US, I'd need to pay for international shipping on every figure which is crazy, stupid expensive, so Classics never happened for me! To this day I regret how it went down! 😢

Yeah, timing is everything with toys, these days. Used to be, it wouldn't matter if you missed out on Farmboy Luke Skywalker back in 1978, because he was still being sold all the way up to 1984, albeit on a different card. Nowadays, you miss a narrow window of availability, and that's it. The customs issue was sporadic, though. Sometimes, I'd get a fairly hefty shipment through without any customs charges at all, and sometimes they'd hold a couple of Wepaons Paks hostage until I coughed up the dosh. And don't get me started on how ParcelFarce handled things -- I'll be typing for another two hours. The shipping was also confusing. You used to be able to get a Surface Mail option, which took up to two months to deliver something, but it was dirt cheap. Then, somewhere along the line, all the delivery services seemed to simulatneously cut that option out, so you HAD to pay airmail or express shipping at exorbitant rates. But again, they were sporadic. I ordered a Point Dread & Talon Fighter set from MattyCollector, and for some unknown reason, the express shipping cost half the amount of the standard airmail on that one occasion, and I got the set in five days, with no customs ransom. And it also depended on the carrier. About a decade ago, I ordered a Clone Wars Trade Federation MTT off Toy-Palace, in Germany. Shipping to England via FedEx: €147. Shipping to England via UPS: €87. Shipping to England via DHL: €12.

I wanted a fully tooled Leech. Leech is my favorite fictional character of all time along with Skeketor. He's Top 5 in my favorite toys of all time. MOTUC Leech could be my favorite action figure I own. I have 7 of him - 6 loose and 1 still MIB. The arms and legs never bothered me. Leech has He-Man' s arms. Are you saying He-Man had small arms? Same for the legs. Problem is his torso is too small. It's not wide enough and it has no girth. It's flat like a pancake. On the other hand the arms and legs do mostly match in size. Yes, Leech should have been that year's delux figure like Ram Man or Modulok or Multi-Bot. What are you going to do? MOTUC's #1 Motto was Cut Corners and Cheap = Vintage. All things considered Leech was a miracle. He made out far better than Evil who received no new tooling was was just a repainted figure twice in the line. ------- Biggest regret with the line was you screwed us out of a proper 200x Evil Lyn even though the 4H admitted to having the budget for her dress. Here we are 10 years later no new 200x figures...no 200x Evil Lyn even though you promised in multiple threads she would not be a repaint.

I never really minded when minor details on the toy didn't match the content. I never even minded repaints to widen the character selection in lines like G1 Transformers did with all the seekers. It was more the lazy repaints of the exact same toy as a new version of the same character. Shared parts in MOTU made the characters all seem fairly equal physically.

I'm still mad that my favorite MOTU chapter, The New Adventures of He-Man, got so few figures in the line. However, my anger isn't devoted to you. There's only so much a brand manager can do if that set of characters don't sell well. Rather, my anger's directed at the Vintage, PoP, and 200X fans who constantly made grandiose statements on the discussion forums about the need for all the fandom factions to support each other. They swore up and down that if one one group bought all the other factions' characters, then the other factions would support the one. I have an entire sub line of 200X characters I don't even care about just because I wanted the 200X fans to reciprocate to the NA fans. And yet every time an NA character went on sale, it sold poorly. Moral of the story: people in fandoms are full of bantha poodoo.

The only thing I hear fans complaining about Classics are the bios, especially the "real names" (e.g. Beastman being named Raqquill). The company trend of trying to get more money for old rope, ie. taking decades old characters and material, inventing new bios and backstories not only can be irritating to some old fans but also risks dating these characters faster than they should. IMO either officially bio near the start, or bring in new characters, not start changing up well known and established characters of 30 years.

@@ryanvegntech Believe me, if there's anyone who will back you to the hilt on hating change in beloved fictional properties, it's me. Reboots, remakes, redesigns, and especially "re-imaginings" rub me the wrong way, and I'll never stop grumbling about them. (For example, as well-written as many of the MYP cartoons were, I still hate the art style to this day.) But the thing about the bios is that they didn't really CHANGE that much about MOTU; they just ADDED to it. I don't like change in what I love, but I do like MORE of it. Plus, you can just discard the bits you don't like and carry on as you were. For example, despite some of the amazing visuals and some cool ideas in them, I still think the Disney "Star Wars" sequels were largely crap, thrown together with cheap, lazy, hack writing and warring egos, and I pretty much just treat them like they don't exist. Same goes for the "New Jedi Order" books. And my life is happier that way.
