I was sat at a desk once some years ago that overlooked a roof of another building about 20 yards away. There was a magpie on it, flicking around what looked like an uncooked chicken breast, as it pecked lumps out of it. Then it moved, and I saw that it wasn’t a chicken breast. It was a young pigeon that hadn’t yet got its feathers. The magpie must have dragged it out of its nest. It was still pecking lumps out of that live squab when I left about an hour later. A slow and painful death. They do it to every chick they find. There’s loads of them squabbling in the trees at the back of my garden. They definitely need controlling.

They are a true apex predator

my elderly neighbour saw a magpie on it's own, + ran inside, "it's bad luck" she said she died a few months later... moral of the story - don't smoke 60 a day from the age of 12... have a good one

Another great one as always👌 mate👍 keep on them magpies,way two many around, caught them predating on house sparrows 3 different occasions this year, these weren't youngsters, health sparrows they were snatched off the birth feeder.
