The first trains of 2023! My first catch of the year also happens to be my first catch of one of Amtrak's 50th Anniversary heritage locomotives, AMTK 160 (Phase III Pepsi Can livery) leading Coast Starlight train No. 11 through the Winton Ave. crossing in Hayward. I then make a couple visits to Martinez where I catch AMTK 203 (Amtrak's Operation Lifesaver 50th Anniversary P42DC) leading California Zephyr trains No. 5 and 6, a Phase V NPCU leading a San Joaquin train, CDTX 8306 (Amtrak California's famous cab car with a Nathan P5 horn) and several freight trains (including the MRVOA led by a trio of EMD SD70Ms)! Towards the end of the month, I made a quick trip to Pleasanton to catch Union Pacific's IOANP intermodal train with a Kansas City Southern GE GEVO trailing!
